We are hoping for an update at that point on some of the statuses on this fire. It is a fatal fire. There is one fatality associated with this fire. We were learning this morning about that. Were told it was a man in his 50s who went into cardiac arrest. As for the acreage at this point, it still stands at 4700 containment at 0 . This is a very active fire. Twentyfive homes have been damaged or destroyed. We saw several of those homes basically ignite on live tv all morning long. About 1000 firefighters are on the front line. This fire being tackled from the ground and air. Multiple helicopters battling the flames as well as fixed wing aircraft. They are assisting in the aerial fight. The fire has been burning for 15 hours. Is started around 9 00 last night in the sylmar area and it moved to the west where it has been burning homes in portar ranch and their Granada Hills area. The winds have been driving this fire. It is very dry with humidity low. There are a lot of fuels, a lot of trees, a lot of dryness that is making it a very difficult firefight for these firefighters. About 23,000 homes remain under mandatory evacuation. Some 100,000 residents impacted by those evacuations. Again, we are here at the command post. This is where those decisions are being made in terms of logistics. In terms of firefighters on the grounds and telling them how to tackle the flames from the air. Will be on standby hoping for positive news at 1 00 that they are making progress. Those winds are not expected to calm down. The area between Santa Clarita and san fernando, im picking up sustained winds at about 21 Miles Per Hour. Take a look at the relative humidity, 8 . As we get to the second part of the afternoon, some of these humidity levels could drop down to about 2 . We do have that red flag warning in place until tomorrow. Outside a red flag warning on the east area, we have three other fires burning. A lot going on there. This is going to continue. I dont see a shift in the wind coming until tomorrow afternoon. They have at least another 24 hours, perhaps 30 hours before those wind shifts and come in from the Pacific Ocean and calm down a bit. Thank you. More than half of the 730,000 customers in Northern California whose power was turned off have their power back on because the winds have subsided. The power is back in most of salina, contra costa and san mateo counties. And in alameda and marin counties, 86 of the power has been restored. Pgd crews have been working throughout the morning to try and get power restored. Officials telling us they hope to have it up to 98 percent restored by 9 00 this evening. At one point, roughly 66,000 customers were cut off and Sonoma County altogether. As residents here in santa rosa, nearly 7000 customers still did not have the power back got that number is dwindling now as we head into the afternoon. This started when those families came to the United States from mexico in search of that American Dream. We share how they went from making grapes to making wine in their own vinyard. Reporter i am pretty thrilled that is already october. I cant believe how fast this harvest was. Reporter another harvest for what is another chapter in the remarkable story of this family vinyard. Our story is our bread and butter. It is our biggest philosophy. Reporter the story starts in the vineyard in 1967. She is just 12 years old. Her father picked grapes and he wanted the American Dream for his family. He brought his family here from mexico. My father told me that after the first day picking grapes, i said i dont remember, i believe him. I said im going to have a vinyard of my own sunday. Reporter in 1999, that dream became what is now known as they house vineyards. I became the first Mexican American woman elected president of a winery in history. Reporter she didnt do it alone. She created all of this took family, to families in fact. Her husband pedro like a family work the vineyards. In fact, that is where they met. We were both 12. Oh my gosh. We just celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary. Reporter she and pedro married after college. The dream became a family affair. It took both families to come up with the money to buy the first piece of land. Pedros brother belmondo is there winemaker and the children have joined the business. They grew up in the vineyards and the importance of what they can accomplish is not lost on them. Being one of the pioneering latino family wineries cant make a mark in this industry dominated by european and American Families and males. Reporter the business continues to grow. There under the philosophy that wine and food can bring people together. And on the knowledge that the diversity that mexicanamerican winemakers can bring to this industry is invaluable. When i came out and said well, i love beans and cabernet and people started laughing and they thought it was funny. There is actually a real fact that protein goes well with cabernet. And beans with a corn tortilla is perfect. That with a delicious glass of cabernet from the napa valley is great. Reporter she has revelation is this idea of caring Authentic Mexican cuisine. Spoke with 50 of their one club members from the latino community, they believe they are making strides in accessibility, education and they hope inspiration. It is now said that she can do it so can i. It brings diversity and without the mexican labor force, there would not be a wind industry. No food on our tables.
