What can you tell us about that fire . Reporter this fire was first reported at 3 00 this morning and it has grown to four alarms, about three acres burning here. One challenge in the fire, we have the orange glow in the distance there. Getting access has been very difficult for the firefighters. We have video to show you from the Vallejo Fire Department showing where this fire is happening. You need fourwheel drive to get to many multiple reports of crews coming across the radio that they are running into sheer cliffs as they try and access the fire. Reporter this part of mare island has fire hydrants but the challenge is getting those hose lines up to where the fire is located. No buildings are threatened by this fire on mare island. This is a four alarm fire because of the problems and challenges of getting access to the fire. If you live in vallejo, be aware youre probably going to smell smoke when you wake up this morning. As soon as we crossed over the vallejo bridge, we could spell the smoke. You can see even though its dark, the haze in the air because of to get updates from firefighters battling this fire on the mare island preserve. Back to you. We also need treatment spots out there available. A report showed 259 people died in San Francisco last year from drug overdoses. Fentanyl overdoses increased 237 in 2018. We just received an update on the breaking news of that wildfire at mare island, the preserve in vallejo. Investigators just told allie rasmus the fire was started by quote, malicious damage to two power poles. The investigator says someone intentionally cut into the power poles, causing power lines to go down. Authorities say its a hard fire to put out its in a remote southwestern part of the mare island preserve near tyler road. It is very steep and the fire is difficult to get to. Once we get to the island, we have multiple reports of the crews coming across the radio, running into sheer cliffs. This fire started about 3 00 a. M. And theres no word of injuries. Look at the pictures of this vegetation fire on mare island. Well have more in the 6 00 hour. There are Power Outages in parts of california, part of pg es plan to reduce the risk of wildfires. Puerto rico is reporting Power Outages, landslides and flooding after Tropical Storm karen swept through the region. Dangerous situation here, you can see with the water. This is one of puerto ricos rivers overflowing into a construction area. The cdc says 80 of people who die from the flu were not vaccinated. Health professionals recommend everyone six months and older to get the shot. Text to 911 is already available in other bay area cities and counties. Firefighters are getting the upper hand on a wildfire burning in san which has burned 150 acres and is 10 contained. Flames are being driven by the hot weather, fuel, and steep terrain out there. They have been able to stop the forward spread of the flames. Evacuation orders in the area have been lifted.
