Officials say the warning will be in place until state, federal and local officials find the root cause of the lung illness linked to vaping. They also advise anyone having difficulty breathing after vaping to contact their doctor immediately. At least 90 people in california have been hospitalize for vapingrelated illnesses and two have died. Massachusetts has declared an emergency, becoming the first state to ban the sale of both tobacco and marijuana infused ecigarettes. The states Public HealthCouncil Approved the governors declaration, banning all sales for the next four months. It would include more outreach workers and make narcan, the overdose reversal drug, more readily available. And we need treatment spots that are available. Reporter the mayor says the department of Public Health has nurses and workers on the street every day helping treat people and working to prevent overdoses. During a previous board of supervisors meeting, the police were targeting high level drug dealers. Sadly right now people are arrested and released, and there are no consequences. Reporter they say the city needs to do more. I dont know how anybody could say were doing good enough when more and more people are dying. Reporter there were 259 Drug Overdose deaths in 2018, up from 222 from the year before. The San Francisco general Hospitals Emergency Department tells me he sees deadly overdoses almost every day, and expects numbers this year to surpass last year.
