While the city is changing is tackett tactics, many people say is not working, including one city councilman who railed against the city and the mayor saying oakland has been too lax on the legal dumpers. We have a mayor herself in our studio, and she joined us every month. Thank you for being here. Was talk about city councilman had to say in his district and all of oakland. He has a plan to bring in uniform members of the army as volunteers to help with Illegal Dumping cleanup. What you think of that plan . I think it is helpful for anybody to help clean up oakland. He is out here every week cleaning up, and it is true. Our data shows a huge increase in Illegal Dumping over these plat past few years. You are spending more to combat it, but the problem is growing. What we found with Illegal Dumping is illegal categories residential trash. We know that a lot of people are moving in and out of oakland and there is a lot of issues with peoples garbage bills going up. We also have this problem of in house people in oakland. That number has doubled over the last four years. Those folks dont have arbor service. And so all of those things together are contributed. Where i disagree with councilmember gaia as we are not lax about this problem at all. We have toughened all of our penalties for Illegal Dumping. We have a rewards program for people who provide information that can lead to someone being fined or in some places criminal charges can be brought. If you witness Illegal Dumping and we encourage people to get camera footage of that, that really helps us. Call 311. Ulcer 311 is the number to call if you see Illegal Dumping and you want the city to come and pick it up. Be clear about this. The city of oakland cannot be your maid service. We really need people to change their behavior. That is why we have invested a lot not only in these new trash detectives, Environmental Enforcement ofcers are actually tracking down the source of dumping, but it is accountable people who have caused it. But we are also doing some training with the young people to be ambassadors to educate peers and family members about the effects, the psychological distress that it causes. More portly, the environmental impact. Is anyone been prosecuted for Illegal Dumping. When the councilman joined us last week, it is almost if you live in alameda, dump it in oakland. If you live in another area, bring it here. The councilmember is wrong in this. If we did an audit of the trash, we found the largest percentage came from inside oakland itself. We have fines. We can find people based on the amount of trash, we actually absolutely have find people. There was a place where you pick up truck dumped a bunch of construction debris outside of someones house, and we were able to bring that person to justice. If it happened in front of my house and to be on video, so much of the stuff have been on the street for weeks. For mac that is hard. You have to get evidence of who did the dumping in the investigative work. We have two important things to talk about as well. Number one, oakland streets are getting repaved. You are very proud of that. There is a bit of a battle between San Francisco and oakland. It is a friendly battle, and we will all come out winners. The big day cleanup his battle for the bay. We are trying to get as many volunteers as possible to help out on creeks of bay day. That is why it is a battle for the bay. While San Francisco and oakland have a friendly wager about who can actually get more volunteers out working that day, honestly, whichever city wins that battle, the bay winds no matter who wins. We go online we register. We turn out on saturday, september 21st, ready to go, whichever city has the most volunteers and makes the biggest impact is the winner. I expect to see the mayor wearing some as here. I know that you dont want to wear giants orange. Never. Are you going to go to the new chase center anytime soon . I dont have any plans right now. Im sure will come at some point. Im sure that mayor breed said she would invite me to her guest at one of the centers. Im focused on doing things like leaving our streets. This is been for years in the making to actually get a bond measure passed, to purchase equipment and create a department of transportation, which oakland did not have before. Almost unthinkable that it didnt exist. But this is been a huge journey. Im so thankful to people who have had the measure passed. Less than three years ago, the design that went into the street repaving, today, people are going to see a whole new level of activity. It is not a moment too soon because our roads needed. I drove the streets every day and i agree. Thank you for always joining us. Back to you. Thank you for that. Lets check in with sal and see how the commute is going. A little change in temps, but there will be a lot of high mid level clouds, including some of that fog. Then there is a low coming in from the west tomorrow. That will start to cool us down a little bit. We will have dry thunderstorms. May be a few spreckels or an isolated shower. We dont want any lightning. It is just cloud to cloud. No cloud to ground. If it happens, today would be the day. I dont think the condition would be a favorable as favorable as tomorrow. 60s to 90s on the temps. Near average. A little below. That is a sign of a much cooler pattern by the time we get to saturday. Until we get there, 50s and 60s on most of the temps.
