About 8 almost accelerating a little bit more than that so it urut at least its not stationary or at least 1 Miles Per Hour as it was yesterday. Water temperatures feeding off the gulf stream at 85 or 86 but it is beginning to make its move more towards Daytona Beach up towards jacksonville but now right about over Cape Canaveral and cocoa beach you can see the bands coming in so still very windy conditions beginning to accelerate and lift north ward and still the eye is well enough off shore but close enough to get storm surge out of that, high tide, heavy rain as well. Some of those thunderstorms move on shore but finally it is moving. Now focus goes towards the georgia coast, more likely South Carolina up to North Carolina, Cape Hatteras and the outer banks as it accelerates out of the picture but the next 36 towards the carolinas. Steve, thank you. Hurricane dorian remains a category two storm with 105 Miles Per Hour winds as it passes close to the coast of florida. Its north ward towards georgia and the carolinas. Leaving a wide path of damage off the coast of florida in the bahamas. Live in florida where there are concerns that not everyone is taking evacuation orders seriously and we can feel it. We can see the wind too. Frank thats right. The winds and the rain have picked up today. Weve been experiencing sustained winds up to 25 to 40 Miles Per Hour. Other areas further south of us have sustained Tropical Storm force winds so this storm is slowly working its way north before it hits georgia and the carolinas. Waves battering the shores as Hurricane Dorian skirts eastern florida. The storms expected to move critically close to georgia and South Carolina possibly making landfall in North Carolina thursday or friday. Over two Million People in the affected areas warned to evacuate. I urge residents to take these orders and this storm seriously. Some saying the slow moving storm isnt a threat. Not worried really. I mean, it took so long in the bahamas it died down to nothing now. Dorian has weakened and is still considered dangerous even landfall folks can expect high winds, Power Outages and life threatening storm surge. Meanwhile in the bahamas crews are working to get food and medicine to those who survive dorians relentless on slawght. They need every piece of help they can get. It is totally devastating and heartbreaking. The then category five storm over the islands for about a day and a half this video capturing the historic devastation miles and miles of neighborhoods under water. Homes and buildings destroyed. Some reduced to nothing but piles of debris. It was just worse than anything i could have imagined. Happy to be alive. Glad my family is safe and, you know, we can rebuild. Frank, the bahamas are going to need a lot of help but luckily there are many people and organizations who are stepping up. Were going to disney and Royal Caribbean who have both pledged 1 million. In addition Royal Caribbean is also bringing in supplies like clean water and generators. And i know youre kind of locked at the coastline there but have you seen people leaving at least the coastline of florida and heading inland from this storm . You know, as we stand along the beach this morning you see people come and take pictures but 6,000 people right now are in 115 shelters across the state so quite a few people have evacuated. Yeah. Back here in the bay rarks the morning commute is on. So lets check in with sal keeping an eye on traffic. How does it look out there, sal . We have a big problem in fremont northbound interstate 880 near the mall all lanes continue to be blocked because of the crash involving several vehicles northbound. I do want to mention that the traffic is going to be affected southbound because everyone can see whats going on on the other side of the freeway and even though all of the southbound lanes are open you will see a lot of slow traffic in the area. Wanted to mention a ome re on pretty serious crash on westbound highway 4. Its a couple of cars that got into it. One car burst into flames. The people got out but the cars completely charred and that means that its going to be a big delay there. If you are getting on the road in pittsburgh you might actually be helped out by some of the lane blockers there. Were also looking at the commute where they picked up the road work on 880 southbound. Southbound traffic taking a while to recover. If you are heading to the airport give yourself a few extra minutes. The bay bridge filled in backed up for a 15 minute delay at the toll plaza. 6 06. Lets go back to the desk. Thank you, sal. We are learning more about the people who died in the boat fire off the coast of Santa Barbara. Search crews say they are no longer looking for survivors and the Recovery Efforts are still under way. 34 people were asleep below deck when the boat caught fire early monday morning. It is never an easy decision to suspend search efforts. We know that this is a very difficult time for families and friends of the victims. We have suspended the search efforts due to no additional individuals having been witnessed entering the water. The flames moved quickly blocking both the narrow staircase and the hatch from the lower deck which were the only ways to escape. The captain and four crew members were awake on the upper deck and survived. A team from the ntsb is leading the investigation into the cause of the fire. Officials say most of the victims were from Northern California. Were learning scott chan of loss altoist was on that trip along with his 26 yearold daughter. He was a High School Physics teacher in fremont. Him and his daughter were avid scuba divers taking at least two boat trips a year to the island. Nicky moore is now dealing with the sudden loss of her husband and daughter and says shes given authorities a cheek swab of her dna which will be used to identify her father. To have a child die i mean i canti can barely talk about my husband but its even harder frankly its harder when its your own child. Nicky says she met scott at stanford. He worked as an electical engineer in the Silicon Valley for 20 years before he began his teaching career. Their daughter kendra just turned 26. She was a wildlife biologists from the u. S. Fish and wildlife. The family is working on funeral arrangements as they wait for official confirmation from the Coroners Office. Other victims include santa cruz leading the guide trip. And yesterday administrators in santa cruz announced students and parents from the Charter School were also on board but their identities have not been released just yet. The train board is meeting today and members are likely to hear from people who live there and cannot sleep because they are kept away by blairing train horns. The smart train will eventually extend from san raphael all the way to clarks burg and will run on this line a part of it right here behind us but before they can have that full Service Train engineers need to test this route and they have to do it overnight and that leads to this problem youre about to hear. [horn]. Horns bullarying near residential neighborhoods at every intersection along that new extension. The trains are required to sound their horns at the intersection as part of a federal safety law but it means that for the past two weeks residents in nearby neighborhoods have not been able to get any uninterrupted sleep. This is like a neighborhood with thousands of people. Do you really want your surgeons to not sleep the night before or the person who is with your child or how about the driver who just goes through the intersection. Also being asked whether or not they made arrangements and perhaps for service. At a san raphael City Council Meeting last night sleep deprived neighbors told city leaders the problem has been so bad some of them have had to leave town in order to get some rest. San raphaels mayor also on the smart train board says the city has applied for exemptions to the federal safety rules but that wouldnt apply to this temporary testing phase. Those safety exemptions only apply when a train is in full service and that hasnt happened here yet. Again this is all because they were testing the route here from san raphael to larks burg and theyre doing that in the overnight hours leading to this problem of the train horns blairing during the overnight hours. Residents have hired an attorney to help them find some sort of solution. Live in san raphael, aly rasmus, ktvu fox 2 news. Google could face another Anti Trust Lawsuit as soon as next weening. Still holding onto the 90s but some of knees 90s if you are well enough inland it does look like by the time we get to saturday the desert south west might cool down and low on its way not until saturday. Some of that monsoon moisture is beginning to drift north ward and as it does some partly cloudy skies for some already. For most later on today this develops here right there. Now this will be moving in from the south so during the afternoon and evening get those. Lower levels of the atmosphere very dry. Maybe dry thunderstorm activity more likely over the mountains. Tahoe looks much more likely today for tahoe and tomorrow south towards yosemite. Today is our day. Low clouds around and build ups in the Santa Clara Valley and monterey the mountains towards molina as well. And some of that moisture continues to work its way north. By tomorrow it will probably be out of the picture but for today that low another low to the west and the combinatio going to make really havent ch warm. Thats and 52 polk valley and marian canyon theres milder conditions and much cooler. Water temperatures have come way down. Thats good. No breeze at all. A northeast at the napa airport. 58 and 64 in reno, monterey at 60 degrees and up to the mountains yesterday all to the east and the south but i think today gets better opportunity for some of that thunderstorm activity to make it to lake tahoe and also the mother load as the moisture comes to the south and partly cloudy conditions maybe a little more on the humid side for those inland upper 80s to 90s. In fact the mother of kendra and the wife of scott tell us they have been diving at least twice a year off the channel island. They would take boat trips at twice a year and we spoke with chans wife vicky moore who dropped them off on friday night. They met their daughter there kendra. She lives there and its a boat they have been on many, many times. They say they know the risks associated with diving but a boat fire never crossed vickys mind. Shes in absolute shock and disbelief and planned to pick them up from the trip on monday. My husband just got back from a six week trip doing Research Diving to protect the coral reef in a place called east ken more in australia.
