Coastguard now says 25 people have died and there are still others missing. The boat was anchored about 20 yards off the santa cruise island off the coast of Santa Barbara. Ktvu joins us live in our newsroom with the very latest on that investigation. Authorities are searching for at least nine other people who are missing. That fire broke out on a 75 foot boat that was being used for a recreational diverring trip over the home day weekend. The frantic call for help came around 3 30. The boat was fully engulfed when rescuers arrived. Authorities believer most of the passengers were likely asleep when that fire broke out. Officials saying it is now laying inverted on the seabed and roughly 62 feet of water. Five crew crew members survived and they did it by jump into a tender boat and were rescued by Good Samaritans on a nearby fishing boat called the great escape. It was owned by truth aquatics pictured on its website and contracted by worldwide diverring adventures for a labor day expredigs expedition that left saturday. To be in a remote location and have a fire that other during and limited capabilities and a fire that spreads rapidly, you couldnt ask for a worse situation. One of the people reportedly missing is christy sims dad from the city of santa cruz. She is listed as a guide on the worldwide diverring adventures website, and a man named brett hermling of houston posted on facebook that kristy is his sister and was leaving that diving tour. Thank you, kristina. A fundraiser has been set up for a mother of identify other who was kit will and it killed by a stray bullet in oakland. Family members have identified her as 44yearold marta. The shooting happened on east 22nd street early yesterday morning. As rob ross tells us, she and her husband were returning to their car after a wedding reception. The mother of five children, the youngest, the fouryearold boy. She was struck and killed by a stray bullet early monday morning on 22nd street. She was 44 years old. Her family is heartbroken. I never thought that this could happen to us. It happened around 1 00 a. M. On east 22nd street near 21s avenue and east oakland. One neighbor heard four shots. Her family says um she and her husband had just left a wedding reception for a friend and were walking to their car parked just around the corner. Police say there will been an altercation nearby that had absolutely nothing to do with the couple. There was a some type of dispute, an argument between several people during that time someone discharged a firearm. Reporter one neighbor told us through a translater she didnt realize someone had been shot. So she said she feels so hoverrable because you never they it is going to happen. Terrifying. Police have made no arrest. I were looking for any witnesses, and canvassing the neighborhood and looking for any Video Surveillance that could help us. A food business called taco marta and a taco truck. Very joyful, friendly. She always wanted to feed everybody who came by to visit. Her daughter, mercedes, was at the gilroy garlic festival when a gunman opened fire killing three people in july. Now this. She is the 48th homicide in oakland so far this year. Last year at this time, there were 40. And highway 24 open again. And accidentally brought down some powerlines. It brought traffic to a stop in the late yet area yesterday morning. Then the freeway was closed intermittently throughout the day. Ktvu explains how crews were able to i repair those powerlines. The contractors claim working on equipment upgrades at or near the late yet knocked down the powerline. The line fell on highway 24 and the bart tracks cutting part of some 114 homes and businesses for many hours. The chp, late yet police and pg ande were immediately summoned. They had to temporarily close all of the westbound lanes early this morning and they were able to reopen an hour later when the lines were removed from the highway. Pg ande found some temporary freeway closures would be needed later in the day to restrain the overhead powerlines and damaged line holders and insulators. We are supposed to have some friends over. And no workers or people on the freeway were injured. One thing was injured. The mall down here just south of the tracks. Everything lost power. On the late yet laborday, the yogurt shack should have been popping, but when the electricity went, so did the refrigeration and the business day. Basically, we grabbed the generator and came down here and tried to save as much product as we could. The generators kept the storage refrigerators cold, but the yogurt making and dispensing machines themselves require a lot more power than the little generator could make causing loss of the product inside of them. They say the 36yearold gunman had been fired from his job just hours better that shooting spree. Investigators have finished searching the gunmans home. Were going through that. I know a number of you have been out there. It is a very strange residence. It is very small. I can tell you the conditions reflect the way his mental state was. Seven people were killed including a 15yearold girl, a teacher and a truck driver. The gunman was killed in a shootout with police. The truck driver was a man from the bay area. He grew up in san bruno. He moved to las vegas. Amber lee spoke to his sister who says the Las Vegas Shooting prompted him to move to texas where he thought he would be safer. A fun guy. He loved music. Lieu i did arco is being remembered by francesca in bergly. They grew up in san bruno and he was her boyfriend when they were teenagers. He says use that news that he was killed in a mass shooting over the weekend angers and saddens him. I just cant believer it. In 1997. He moved from the bay area to las vegas and oped several taco rias. Last october on the anniversary, he decided he no longer wanted to raise his family there. He decided he really needed a safer place to raise his family. Two younger daughters. So arco moved his family to odessa and started a trucking company. He was driving on the highway when he was hit. Had died instantly. Arco just celebrated his 57th birthday in april. His family and friends say they are also grieving for the families of the other victims that they never imagined that this would happen to someone they know and love. Arco came when he was a child. He had a gift of lifting people up with laughter. He would make people feel good and to make people feel like there was always a possibility. He was a very positive man. And he will be missed. She had not seen arco in years but had reconnected on social media. They have talked about him havedinner with friends. To and diego says it was a tight knit Community Growing up in san bruno and had these words for arco. My thoughts and prayers always. Always have a piece of my heart as well. Arco is survivorred by five children and six grandchildren. His family plans to hold a Memorial Service in the bay area on september 14th. It will be open to the public. Time now is 5 45.
