Good morning. Im frank mallicoat. Rosemary is joining the sunday off. But we have a busy sunday morning back east. Very much so. We have another Beautiful Day of warm temperatures on tap but we have to talk about dorian. A beast of a storm. A category 5. Big. About to roll over the bahamas. We were talking about this when we were putting on our makeup, it is devastating. You know, i fear for the people still in the bahamas. And it will be happening over the next 612 hours. It is really slow too, right. It has slowed down. The storm surge will be extraordinary. It just sits there and causes a lot of damage. Od morning. Whoa. That will wake you up. As you see here, it is a beast of a storm and literally about to roll over the bahamas. This is the eye of the storm. Imagine that, about to roll over you in lowlying land that really nothing is standing in the way of this thing devastating this island. Absolutely nothing. We are talking 1015 inches of rainfall. More importantly were talking about 15 feet of storm surge that. Is the wind pushing that water right across that land. And that is why of course theyre under a hurricane warning. Coast of florida under the Tropical Storm warning and Tropical Storm warning in the area in yellow. The storm surge is the biggest threat. The wind willing driving the water on shore. The right quadrant always gets hit strongest. Sustained wins winds at 175 Miles Per Hour. Imagine that. You can see the track now. It actually overnight brought it in a little closer to florida. So now edging a little further to the west. Still keeping it off shore until probably up to south carolina, North Carolina. These are the Spaghetti Models that we look at. It takes it inland. But most of it keeping it off shore through the next few days as it rolls through. Needless to say, it will make its way in and stall out right off of the coast of florida before it tracks up and hopefully stays off land. Devastation right now about to happen in the bahamas and certainly our hearts to go out to people there at this hour. People off of the southeastern coast of the United States are being told to prepare as dorian gets closer to land. Alyssa harrington joins us live in the newsroom with what Storm Trackers are saying this morning. This is an extremely dangerous situation. Some have already evacuated ahead of the hurricane making landfall. Many others are doing what they can to protect their homes and businesses. They have been boarded up doors and windows to prepare for incredibly strong winds and catastrophic flooding. There have been amanda tory and voluntary evacuation orders. More will come monday. The mayor of jacksonville is reminding people to stock up on water and food and fill up on gas and have batteries. Everybody is prepping for the storm early. That is a good thing. Water is gone. Generators are gone and plywoods just off of the shelves. President trump has been briefed on the hurricane. Vice president mike pence said they will make sure that the southeastern states in the strike zone will have the resources they need. Alyssa harrington, ktvu fox 2 news. We will have more on ktvu. The gunman was stopped by stat troopers, opened fire and fled, shooting more than 20 people. It happened in the heart of texas oil country. Midland is about 300 miles from dallas and odessa is southwest of midland. They make up one metropolitan area. It started on saturday afternoon. The driver exchanged gun fire with police, setting off a chaotic chain of events during which the suspect hijacked a mail carrier truck and started shooting. He is described as a white man in his 30s but has not yet been identified. It is unclear if the suspect is being counted as one of the five people killed. We know at least 20 people were injured, including three Police Officers. The hospital has staged an area for the families. We have counselors, grief counselors, everybody, social workers, with the families right now, trying to provide them support. We have them staged in the area. The shooting comes four weeks after the shooting at an Pasta Pomodoro Walmart Store that claimed 22 lives. A number of local and National Lawmakers have spoken out since the shooting. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi responding on twitter. Enough is enough. Every day the gun violence epidemic inflicts a devastating toll in communities across america. This time in west texas. Senate gop must end its obstruction and pass legislation to end gun violence. The governor of texas tweeting the state of texas, department of Public Safety is working with local Law Enforcement to deliver justice for this heinous attack. Thanks to First Responders who acted swify. Texas ll unite to end the evil attacks. And the president who is at camp david tweeted saying he has been briefed on the shooting with fbi and Law Enforcement, fully engaged. More to follow. Vice president mike pence is overseas visiting poland. Before he took off on the trip, he spoke to reporters about how the white house is offering its full support for texas. I just spoke to the president and he is at camp david. And he is closely monitoring the developments in the investigation in the mass shooting in odessa. Our hearts go out to all of the victims, families who had loved ones lose their lives. We commend Law Enforcement in odessa for their swift and courageous response. At the president s direction we deployed the full resources of the federal government. Theyre on sight. The president talked to the attorney general. The fbi is already assisting local Law Enforcement in the investigation going forward. The shooting happened just a day before new gun laws were set to go into effect in texas making it easier to carry guns in Public Places like schools and churches. Licensed gun owners can store them in locked places in the cars as long as it is out of sight and carry weapons into a place of worship unless there are sign thats prohibit guns. Landlords cannot prohibit guns for those who are licensed to scary a new law allows gun owners to carry without a license for up to 48 hours after the governor orders an evacuation. When passing the legislation, officials said they wanted people who visit schools and churches to have the opportunity to defend themselves and others. One person hurt in the shooting is a 17monthold baby. Anderson davis was hit by a bullet in the shooting. She was flown to the hospital north of odessa. Pages raised more than 100,000 since last nights shooting. San Francisco Police are searching for a suspect in an attempted carjacking at about 2 30 yesterday afternoon, not far from San Francisco state. The victim says he got into a road rage incident with another driver. The other driver approached him with a gun and told him to get out of the car. The victim refused and the suspect got back into his own car and took off. The car was found abandoned nearby. In San Francisco, a small grass fire along interstate 08 is under control. It started just after 9 00 last night near bryant and beall street. Firefighters say only half an acre burned and it was under control in about an hour. The fremont offramp was closed temporarily but is back open. And they think it may have started from someone cooking. A street race killed two people. It happened just before 6 30 yesterday morning between snell and rosenbaum avenue. Both the driver and the passenger died at the scene. Police say the bmw stopped after the crash. And three men got out, looked at the crash scene, got back in the car and then left. If you have any information, excuse me, youre asked to call the San Jose Police. A deadly Chemical Exposure at a San Jose Hotel kills one woman and sent several people to the hospital. Four floors had to be evacuated at the Fairmont Hotel yesterday in san jose because of the chemicals. Fire officials described the smell like rotten eggs. As ktvus lee martinez tell us, they believe it was a suicide by chemicals. Reporter at 10 00 a. M. A hotel worker diovered the body inside a room on the 19th floor. A strong chemical odor was also in the room and escaped out the open door. Initial reports said that somebody had attempted suicide on the 19th floor using chemicals. Reporter police are still investigating the cause of death. San jose fire officials confirm that hazmat crews found the body of a woman inside of the room along with several bottles filled with liquid. Seven Hotel Workers and two guests experienced symptoms and were decontaminated and taken to the hospital. None of them appeared to be life threatening. Reporter floors 1820 were evacuated as a precaution. I was just in the hotel room on floor 19. And, yeah, we just heard a bunch of sirens going off in the room and they said please evacuate if youre in level 18, 19 or 20. So, yeah, we didnt know what was going on. They said it is not a fire but please evacuate and come to the lobby. It felt kind of like a gas smell. But i couldnt tell you. Everything was so quick. Reporter later officials evacuated floor 17. Were trying to go back in now. We came back just after breakfast to see if i could get my sunglasses and they said we couldnt go in. So we walked to target and came back. Its been a couple of hours and still not sure. Reporter by late saturday afternoon, police still had not been inside to start the Death Investigation because the hazmat team had not finished testing the liquids found inside of the room. They did take their own air with them so they didnt have to breathe the air up there. The clothing was offgassing with a strange odor. Rather than expose them to potential problems, they will be making the ex entry in a higher level of protection. Reporter a total of 20 hazmat members from the Fire Department finished separating and testing the chemicals. The San Jose Police are now handling the criminal investigation. At this time the hotel has been repopulated with the exception of the 19th floor. That floor still needs to be environmentally clear. A private Hazmat Company will be in charge of cleaning up that room. What we havent heard yet whether or not this is a homicide investigation. In san jose, lee martinez, ktvu fox 2 news. A puppy stoleenfrom an Animal Shelter has been returned. How a Good Samaritan located that puppy online. A fire causing a set back in the citys event to revitalize the area. We hear from the Building Owner who says the project was weeks away from completion. Weve got breaking news. Odessa police have announced that the death toll from yesterdays shooting have risen to 7. A gunman opened fire following a traffic stop with a state trooper. Police are still looking for a motive. A large fire broke out in downtown hayward in a city slowly trying to revitalize. Greg talked with the Building Owner and has their reaction. Reporter just before 2 00, flames were seen jumping from the roof of an empty building at b street and main. Across the street at the bistro, patrons got a front row view of the action. It grew from smokes to flames right away. Reporter hayward fire called in Alameda County for help as they worked to wrestle the flames down. We had two crews interior with lines all working and encountered heavy fire. The back side had a partial roof and wall collapse. We pulled them out and had to go to the water towers. Reporter the buildings owners were on scene and said that four men were working on the roof when the fire started. It started in the back of the building. Reporter they drenched the building for hours to prevent the fire from flaring up and spreading. Though the building is empty, the owners say a new lounge business was going to open soon and the Business Owner was just two weeks away from remodeling. The people have been working for quite almost a year and a half. Reporter but now the entire place will need to be gutted. For years, hayward has tried to draw more people downtown and new businesses help in that effort. Another nearby Building Owner says the fire will be a temporary set back. Because they see a building that has been burned out and theres a lot of smoke damage. Theres a lot of in this case water damage as well. And people might not want to come down here to eat dinner for those reasons. Reporter greg liggins, ktvu fox 2. San hoes police are trying to figure out why a massive fight broke out in downtown yesterday. You can see more than 60 police had gathered in a parking lot near santa clara and market streets. All of the police cars there. Many people were drinking and police were trying to break up the party. Three officers writing citations received minor injuries. Police say one man with a gun in his hand tried to run away and another man tried to block police from getting to him. Officers had to use a taser on the second man and both men were arrested. San jose Police Officer association released a statement that says, quote, was just the latest example of what has become all too common in our country. Criminals violently attacking Police Officers for just doing their jobs. They are increasingly violent and many times turn deadly for Law Enforcement officers. Happening now, bart is replacing tracks between orinda and walnut creek. You can expect delays. Two eastbound lanes of highway 24 are closed in lafayette to make room for cranes being used for track replacement work. This is a live look at highway 24 right now. Traffic doesnt seem to be too heavy or backing up but that could change as the morning goes on. We want to mention that the lanes should reopen by 7 00 a. M. Tuesday. And shuttle buses will be available for bart riders because the lafayette station is closed. I got caught in that yesterday. It clogs up a little bit so give yourself a little bit of time. Good morning to those in san jose, coming in at 63 degrees. Taking a live look at Storm Tracker t you can see where the clouds rolled into the bay. Weve got a little bit of coastal fog happening this morning as well. But that is not going to be long lived. We are going to see that start to dissipate as we get into our afternoon. Those clouds will once again pull away and were going to have a very warm gorgeous sunny day on tap for your sunday. Not bad. The wind will pick up a little bit throughout the day. You will see the westerly flow happening 1015 Miles Per Hour, especially down here in the bay. But a few clouds out there will lead to a gorgeous day at the coast. Warmer today. 71 degrees. 82 in the bay here in oakland. And 98 inland. So we had spots like livermore, concord hit like 97 yesterday. I think it was 9394 up in santa rosa. We had heat out there. High pressure is still hanging out in the four corners keeping us nice and toasty. It will not last forever but it will be with us today. And again we will stay a little more mild at the coast because we have the on shore flow. The heat will certainly be in play in inland communities today. Just be ready for it. Getting into the week, we will see a nice cooling trend as we head into tuesday and wednesday. Were going to pull those temperatures back and get to really nice 80s for those of you basking in the 90s. Santa Rosa Junior College will become the First Community college in the state next year to develop a certificate and Degree Program in the cultivation of hemp. In spring of 2020, students can take hemp focused courses with srjc Sustainable Agriculture and horticulture programs. The farm will test plot of hemp plants all part of the curriculum. Hemp is grope for fiber seed and oil. It is local at the state and federal levels because it does not contain significant levels of thc. It is increasingly used though as a pain reliever in cbd that has enormous promise in medical applications. Hemp proponents say it is a very good thing. A new study says not so fast on knocking all fast food. It can actually be made healthier if you make changes. The journal from preventative medicine confirm what we know, yes, fast food is generally not great for you. But resigners look at 34 fast food klains finding an average combo meal contains 1200 calories and lots of sodium, saturated fat and sugar. Researchers say hold off on special sauces and take off the cheese and toppings and go for water instead of soda and you will be better off. The key is customer modification of the offerings. And a man in tennessee is suing popeyes because it sold oust those new chicken sandwiches before he was able to buy one. Craig barr spent what he is calling countless time driving to trying to find a popeyes that had the sandwich. He is accusing them of false advertising and deceptive business practices. The sandwich sold out before he could get his hands on one and now barr is asking for 5,000 in damages. I dont know who their marketing guy is but popeyes should give him or her a raise. I havent one but they must be good. We continue to track Hurricane Dorian as the storm is now barreling towards the floridian coast. Dorian is a category 5 storm right now. About to plow through the bahamas. You will see that ocean churn up in a big, big way but we dont know where it will make landfall. Kyla will tell us in a moment. I can tell you that the bahamas will get a direct hit. A direct hit from the eye of the hurricane is something that you do not want to ever experience. Take a live look on Storm Tracker 2 and you can see what im talking about. There is the eye of the hurricane. You see freeport. That is the bahamas. Headed directly straight for it. This is a massive monster of a storm. It has become a category 5. Unusual to have a storm this powerful. As you can see it is literally about to roll straight over the bahamas. Then expected to kind of stay off shore for a little while and churn some more. This is what is happening. Hurricane warnings all around the bahamas and a Tropical Storm watch on the coast of florida. That is a warning further south. We are expecting storm surge 15 plus feet of it. That will probably be the most damaging part for this, besides the wind. The wind basically drives the water on shore. That is the storm surge. Think about that. Storm surge, 15 feet. Twice as high. More than twice as high as i am. That rainfall, 1015 inches. This will be happening rather quickly over the next 12 hours. Rolls right over the bahamas and expected to stall out off of the coast of florida before it makes its way to the north. Right now predicted to stay off shore. It is a category 5 hurricane at this hour. That means 175 Miles Per Hour sustained winds. It has slowed down. It is moving west at about 8 Miles Per Hour. It is just about 25 miles east northeast of the bahamas right now. This is the Spaghetti Models. The outlier takes it on shore. Expecting it to go off shore and the question is will it make contact with land in south carolina, North Carolina . That is the question as it is expected to stall out a bit here. It wont be moving up there until probably monday, tuesday, wednesday. This is the wind forecast. You can see extraordinary wind from this storm. Right now, you know, send some good vibrations to the bahamas if you can because they definitely need all of our good thoughts. We will talk about our california weather when i come back. Back to you. Were taking a live look right now. Dorian in florida. Rricane the city of South Daytona beach is a large surfing hub along the coast. Right now we dont see much going on as dorian churns up and down the atlantic. The storm will be turning up the east coast as kyal just mentioned. When it hits, it will be a very, very strong hurricane, new York Military officials are not taking any chances ahead of the hurricane and have begun moving military planes to the Air National Guard base located up in ohio. Bases across the state have been moving any plane thats can be moved and any aircraft unable to leave will be move today hangars for the duration of the storm. And geologists in georgia are turning to technology to get a better sense of Hurricane Dorians force. A Us Geological survey is monitoring water stages, barometric pressure, humidity and precipitation. It will help Emergency Managers with situational awareness. It provides Real Time Data during the storm rather than after it. We are tracking Hurricane Dorian and we will have the latest updates on ktvu. Com. Back closer to home, an Animal Shelter in San Francisco has recovered the third of three puppies that had en taken from a family dog rescue on Late Wednesday night. Two husky puppies that were stolen were recovered in hayward on thursday. And a Good Samaritans noticed the puppies for sale on instagram and called police. The third puppy was found in east oakland. This is baby huey. He appears to be in good health. He was found hiding under a truck in a Good Samaritans driveway. Two men have been arrested for the theft of those three dogs. Police in San Joaquin County credit the public for helping to find the killer of a man. Officers arrested 21yearold anthony criter on suspension of homicide and searched his homes for clues in the possible motive to the killing. He may have been target the because of his religion. We saw someone walking from the back, you know. Unbelievable. Were not going to accept the hate. He is scheduled to be charged on wednesday. Petaluma police are asking for help in identifying two robbery suspects who committed a rather unusual crime. Police say the two thieves walked in to the Dicks Sporting Goods store last tuesday night. Surveillance video shows them grabbing a large ice chest and throwing several baseball gloves into it and then walking out. Officials say the gloves and the yeti cooler worth more than 1,000. So the crime is considered grand theft. 33yearold man has been arrested after he allegedly pointed a shotgun at a woman outside of a Shopping Center and then evaded the police by riding a bike into a nearby store. James driden of martinez eventually arrested inside of the home depot on arnold drive just off of highway 4. Officers tried to evacuate the store. The suspect tried to flee out the front door when he was tackled. Police say he had to be subdued by officers. Home depot employee and a store shopper. Police located a duffle bag with a loaded shotgun inside. 15 people in daly city are staying in temporary housing because of a fire that started at the building on school street. Firefighters say the fire was contained to a storage room in a hallway but caused heat and smoke damage throughout the entire apartment. Thankfully no one was hurt but 15 people are being helped by the red cross. The cause of the fire is under investigation. A new state law will require School Districts to update their records to reflect the chosen name and genders of their graduates. The San Francisco assembly man david chou wrote the bill. He says updated records can inadvertently reveal that a graduate is transgender when they have not made that public. The new law takes effect next year. And smart train equipment testing will continue overnight in the north bay. The Railroad Crossing and train control system will be tested between san rafael and lacksberg and people in the area may hear the trains horn. Some neighbors have plained about the noise during past tests but it is required by federal regulations. Overnight tests are schedule today happen between 9 30 p. M. And 8 00 in the morning. A 17yearold boy in alabama is facing attempted murder charges in a shooting that injured ten teenagers at a High School Football game. Arnelle was arrested shortly after the shooting and being charged as an adult. There was a fight and he pulled out a gun and started shooting. One person was shot and one person suffered a seizure because of the shooting. The victims range in ages from 1518 and all have been released from the hospital. A 911 operator is accused of berating a arkansas woman when she called for help when she was drowning. She accidentally drove into flood waters. Fortsmith police say she was frantic as the water slowly overtook her car but the 911 dispatcher scolded her forgetting too worked up saying, quote, i dont know why youre freaking out. During the call donna is heard scolding stevens for driving into water saying this will teach you next time dont drive in the water. And, quote, i didnt see how you had to see it, you had to go right over it. Stephens was dead by the time that responders reached her car. According to police, the dispatcher had already put in her two weeks notice and the call came during her last shift. A person has been detained in a deadly stabbing in france. It happened out of a subway station. A 19yearold man was killed and at least 8 others injured. French National Police say the suspect is a 33yearold afghan citizen who had applied for asylum in france and awaiting a response. French officials do not believe the attack was terror related. Some of the most violent altercations in hong kongberg the 13week protests. Police were seen hitting passengers with their batons, using pepper spray on the subway. An unspecified number of protesters were arrested. There have been weekly protests in hong kong for nearly three months. And todays protesters set up a barricade in the bus terminal of Hong Kong International airport as they plan to crowd travel routes. Hundreds of protesters set up barricades in the terminal with trolleys after a brief confrontation with airport officials. The Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader ginsburg is ready for a new term with the highest court in october. She has had Serious Health issues but she appears to be eager to get back to work. Reporter this is the second time this week we have seen Supreme Court associate Justice Ruth Bader ginsburg make a public appearance. The 86yearold justice recently completed radiation treatment for a malignant tumor on her pancreas. She says she is looking forward to the courts next term. She also spoke openly about her health amid her recent surgeries. As this audience can see, i am alive. [cheering and applause] and im on my way to being very well. [cheering and applause] ginsburg was also asked about how she is able to keep working so hard in such a demanding job and if she is planning to retire any time soon. I love my job. Its the best and the hardest job i have ever had. And it is what has kept me going through four cancer bouts. Instead of concentrating on my aches and pains, i just know that i have to read this set of briefs. Justice ginsburg received a standing ovation this past monday when she accepted an honoree degree from buffalo law school. She spoke to the crowd about her career as an equal rights activist. She said it was beyond her wildest imagination that she would ever be so honored. She was appointed by bill clinton in 1993. While ginsburg has said before she has no plans to step down any time soon, her health is closely watched by many people as changes could mean a Significant Impact on the makeup of the Supreme Court. We met a north bay man who has been retired for nearly 40 years. He is something. He says he would rather wear out than rust out. And he is living proof. Still playing over a hundred rounds of golf a year at the age of 101 and inspiring everyone up at the Marin Country Club in novato. Reporter born in march of 1918, 101 years young. And the man still has game. Oh. It just feels wonderful. Because older people get in the habit of sitting. And i hate to sit. It is true. Since joining novatos Marin Country Club in 1960, sydney figures he has played 10,000 rounds of golf and still good for three or four rounds a week and consistently shooting below his age. I had a 91 today. And i blew about three holes. Reporter the former contractor has seen it all. He grew up in sausalito and watched the golden gate go up in the 30s. A young sailor when the battle broke out in 45. Married his High School Sweetheart in 1940. Their son ralph is now 78. And his secret to life is pretty simple. I had a great wife. And we were married for 68 and a half years. And i think it had a lot to do with it. She was a wonderful gal. And she was a beautiful gal. Reporter staying active and connected have september him young, especially hanging out with this young bunch of golfers. Im rick and im 75. Im al and im 89 years old. Im ray and im 79. Reporter as a foursome, they have a combined age of 346 and they all look up to the super senior cd who celebrated number 100 at mcc. He is an inspiration for everyone. He is 101 going on 70. He is amazing. He is the best. You couldnt find anybody who has a better spirit. He is so positive. High pressure in the four corners hanging on keeping the inland temperatures hot for another day today. However the on shore flow is going to keep us a little more mild at the coast. There the temperatures go as we step up and head inland into the upper 90s. However, that is going to be a trend that will change in the next few days. Especially when we get into tuesday and wednesday. Temperatures pulling back for the inland communities because low pressure will nudge the heat oust the way and make for a beautiful week out there. If youre heading out to see the giants play, they will be playing the padres about 1 05 p. M. It should be sunny and gorgeous and about 72 degrees as they throw out the first pitch. Breezy out there but nice. These are the highs were expecting today. It will be hot inland. We see them in fairfield, antioch. Down in morgan hill, 97 degrees. San francisco, 74. Pacifica, 71. Hurricane dorian has been upgraded to a very powerful category 5 storm and has its eye set on the bahamas. Where it could make landfall here in the expos why it has been difficult to predict. Seven dead and another 20 injured as a shooter fires randomly throughout texas. Several people were sent to the hospital from this hotel. What prompted three floors at the fairmont to be evacuated. There kt fox 2, this is mornings on 2. Good morning. We begin with this live look at miami beach this morning. Everything calm there. There should be some rain headed that way no doubt. But it appears that Hurricane Dorian will miss miami. We will be talking more about that hurricane coming up. First we want to mention that it is sunday, september 1st. First day. Can you imagine, we already made it to september. No. I cant believe it. It strikes me how interesting it is. We were talking about prediction of storms. When you look at that live picture of miami and how calm it look theres and how you wouldnt really know. You wouldnt really know. A monster of a storm is sitting just, you know, 100 miles off of that coast. It is now literally 20 miles from the bahamas. It will be hitting as a category 5 monster storm. Winds sustained at what. Winds established we just got an update from the hurricane center. 180 Miles Per Hour. That is the sustained wind of that eye of that hurricane that you see right now that is literally about to roll across and cause massive destruction. You know, my heart just breaks when i see this on radar, everybody, because this is going to be very difficult on this island and any people in the way of this storm as you can see across the bahamas will have an absolutely difficult time. So, you know, you just have to send all of your energy in that direction to hope that they make it through this. 180 Miles Per Hour sustained winds. Just updated by the National Hurricane center. Moving west at 7 Miles Per Hour. It is only 20 miles off the island in the bahamas. It is a very strong category 5. As you can see the path now predicted to go a little further to the west but to stay off shore. Notice it stalls out here off of the coast of florida, just spinning over that warm water, keeping nice and strong before it finally starts to get a little bit weaker as it rolls up. This is the thing that im most concerned about. There is the wind but there is the storm surge. Imagine a 15foot wall of water being blown across this island. That is what storm surge will do, particularly when you have lowlying land and nothing stopping it. Again, its going to be a very difficult day today for the bahamas. These are the paths that are predicted here it. It keeps off sure. Not sure when it will come in contact with land but it looks like North Carolina and south carolina. Many people are now scrambling to get out of the way of the storm as it threatens the beaches of the bahamas. Good morning. Good morning. Yeah. Very scary situation. Hurricane dorian is closing in on the bahamas, forcing some major resorts to shut down and fleeing from the hurricanes path. This is video from the bahamas. Homes and businesses boarded up. People stacked sand bags in their doorways to try to protect the structures from wind, rain and potential flooding. People were moved to higher elevation. Many people there already evacuated. And government officials said anybody who does not evacuate is putting themselves in harms way. The police will not be coming for you in the middle of a hurricane. You will have to hunker down. If your head is hard and stubborn and you will not move, you will have to hunker down. People in the southeastern states here are bracing for this powerful hurricane, securing their homes and heading to the store for water, food and gas. There have been evacuation orders ordered. Additional order wills come monday. Also President Donald Trump just tweeted about the hurricane asking everybody to be careful. Live in the newsroom, alyssa harrington, ktvu fox 2. Seven people are dead in west texas this morning in another mass shooting. The gun man was stopped by state troopers and opened fire and fled, shooting more than 20 people. It happened in the heart of texas oil country. Midland is about 300 miles from dallas. Odessa is a few miles west of midland. They make up one metropolitan area. The shooting began with a traffic stop on the freeway saturday afternoon. The driver exchanged gunfire with police, setting off a chaotic chain of events during which the suspect hijacked a mail carrier truck and started firing at random. The gunman was killed by Police Outside of a movie theater. He is described as a white man in his 30s but his identity has not been released. It is unclear whether the suspect is being counted as one of the seven people killed. But we know that 20 people were hurt, including three Police Officers. The hospital has a staging area for the families. We have grief counselors, everybody, social workers with the families right now trying to provide support. We have them staged in the area. The shooting comes four weeks after the shooting at an el paso Walmart Store that claimed 22 lives. That matches the number in all of 2018. A number of local examine and National Lawmakers have spoken out since the shooting in texas. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi responded to the shooting tweeting out enough is enough. Every day the gun violence inflicts a toll on communities across america, this time in west texas. The senate gop must stop ruction and pass legislation to end gun violence. The governor of texas tweeting out that the state texas and the department of Public Safety is working with local Law Enforcement to deliver justice for this heinous attack. Texans will unite to end the evil attacks. And the president who is in camp david tweeted saying he has been briefed on the shooting with fbi and Law Enforcement fully engaged and more to follow. Meanwhile the Vice President is overseas visiting poland. Before he took off, he spoke to reporters about how the white house is offering its full support for texas. I just spoke to the president and he is at camp david. And he is closely monitoring the developments in the investigation in the mass shooting in odessa. Our hearts go out to all of the victims, families who have had loved ones lose their lives. We commend Law Enforcement in odessa for their swift and courageous response. But at the president s direction we deployed the full resources of federal government. Theyre onsite. The president spoke to the attorney general. The fbi is already assisting local Law Enforcement in the investigation going forward. The shooting happened just a day before new gun laws were set to go into effect in texas making it easier to carry guns in Public Places, including schools and churches. Licensed gun owners can now store guns and ammunition in lock the places in their cars as long as it is out of sight ask carry them into a place of worship unless there are sign thats prohibit guns. Landlords cannot prohibit gun owners who are licensed to carry. In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey see, gun owners allowed to carry a gun without a license up to 48 hours after an evacuation is ordered by the governor. They wanted people who visit schools and churches to have the ability to defend themselves and others. And we are learning this morning that one of the victims injured in the shooting is a 17 monthold baby. Anderson davis was hit by a bullet during the shooting. The page says she was being flown to awe luck lubbock area hospital north of odessa. Pages raised more than 100,000 since last nights shooting. San Francisco Police are searching for a suspect in an attempted carjacking. It happened gonzales drive about 2 30 yesterday afternoon. Not far from San Francisco state. The Victim Told Police he got into a road rage incident with another driver. The other driver approached him with a gun and told him to get out of his car. Police say the victim refused and the suspect got back into his own car and drove off. The suspects car was found abandoned nearby. A small grass fire near San Francisco along interstate 80. Now under control. It started just after 9 00 last night near bryant and beall streets. This is video taken from the citizen app. No buildings were damaged and no one was hurt. Only half an acre burned and under control in about an hour. The fremont offramp was closed temporarily. Firefighters think it may have started from someone cooking. Street racing caused a crash that killed two people. It happened just before 6 30 yesterday morning near snell and rosenbam avenues. Both the driver and passenger died at the scene. The bmw stopped after the crash. Three men got out and looked at the crash scene and got back in the car and took off. If you have any information, youre urged to give san jose pd a call. And a deadly Chemical Exposure at a San Jose Hotel kills one woman and sends several people to the hospital. Four floors had to be evacuated at the san jose Fairmont Hotel yesterday morning all because of chemicals. Fire officials described the smell like rotten eggs. As lee martinez tells us, authorities believe it was a suicide by chemicals. Reporter at 10 00 a. M. A Fairmont Hotel worker discovered the body inside a room on the 19th floor. A strong chemical odor was also in the room and escaped out the open door. Initial reports said that someone had attempted suicide on the 19th floor using chemicals. Reporter police are still investigating the cause of death. San jose fire officials confirm that hazmat crews found the body of a woman inside of the room, along with several bottles filled with liquid. 7 Hotel Workers and two quested experienced symptoms and were decontaminated and taken to the hospital. Some were complaining of feeling faint, lightheaded, short of breath. None appeared to be life threatening into floors 1820 were evacuated out of precaution. I was in the hotel on floor 19 and there were sirens going off and saying evacuate if youre on level 18, 19 or 20. We didnt know what was going on. They said continues a fire but evacuate and come to the lobby. It felt kind of like a gas smell but i couldnt tell you. Everything was so quick. Reporter later officials evacuated floor 17. Were trying to go back in now. We came back after breakfast see if i could get my sunglasses but we couldnt. So we went to target and spent a couple of hours and still not sure. Reporter by late saturday afternoon, police had still not been inside to start the Death Investigation because the hazmat team had not finished testing the liquids found inside of the room. They brought their own air with them so they didnt breathe the air up them. Their clothing was off gassing with a rare odor. They will be making their next entry in a higher level of protection. Reporter after several hours, a total of 20 hazmat members from san jose and santa clara Fire Departments started separating the chemicals and now the police is handing the criminal investigation. Were told that a private Hazmat Company is going to be in charge of cleaning up the room. We havent heard from San Jose Police yet as to whether or not this is a homicide investigation. A large fire broke out at a commercial building in downtown hayward in a part of the city slowly trying to revitalize. Greg hibgins talked with the Building Owner and has their reaction. Reporter just before 2 00, flames were jumping from the building on b street and main. The flames took off real quick. Reporter across the street at the bistro, patrons got a front row seat of the action. The intensity grew pretty quick. From the smoke to flames like right away. Reporter hayward fire called in Alameda County for help. Up to 7 engines and two ladder trucks worked to fight the flames down. All the lines were, woulding. And encountered heavy fire. The back side had had a partial wall and roof collapse. So we pulled them out and had to go defensive. Reporter the buildings owners were also on scene and said four men were working on the roof when the fire started. They were doing the roof in the back of the building. And that is where the fire started. Reporter 800 gallons of water a minute comes from this nozzle according to firefighters and they drenched the building for hours to prevent the fire from flaring up and spreading. Though the building is empty, owners say a new lounge business was going to open soon and the Business Owner was just two weeks away from remodeling. The people have been working for quite almost a year and a half. Reporter but now the entire place will need to be gutted. For years, hayward has tried to draw more people downtown and new businesses help in that effort. Another nearby Building Owner says the fire will be a temporary set back. Because they see a building that has been burned out. And theres a lot of smoke damage. Theres a lot of, in this case, water damage as well. In the spring of 2020, students can take hemp focused courses with srjc Sustainable Agriculture and horticulture programs. The Junior College farm is showing a test plot of hemp plants. We want to take a look at Hurricane Dorian. It is on everyones minds this morning. Unfortunately the bahamas are about to take a direct hit. You can see where the eye of the storm is about to roll in to the eastern fringes of the bahamas. And then it will be moving on to grand bahama. This extraordinary to see. You have the eye of a category 5 hurricane with 180 Miles Per Hour sustained winds. Think about that. Around the eye of that huicane, 180 Miles Per Hour winds. It extends out for about 30 miles. Then Storm Force Winds that extend out about 105 miles. As you can see this is about to go down right now and my heart certainly goes out to those in the bahamas right now. Category 5 we have the latest update. 180 Miles Per Hour wind. Moving west at 7 Miles Per Hour. So again a devastating hurricane about to hit the bahamas in the next couple of hours. Expected to stall out over the coast of florida. It will start the trek up the east coast encountering land in the North Carolinasouth carolina area. Of course that will get refined as it gets closer to temperature the big threat besides the wind is the storm surge. This is where the biggest danger from hurricanes lie. In the right front quadrant, you will see water just piling up on the shore. You can see 15foothigh storm surge with that. Imagine that. That is two and a half times as high as i am. Incredibly dangerous. You see the outliers that takes it off. Still an incredibly dangerous storm right now. This is the wind forecast. You can see even though the eye stays off shore, extreme wind will be felt for those along the coast. At this hour and at this moment really we are just preparing for impact right now as you take a look at the island and the eye of the storm just a mere probably 15 miles or less off shore, moving about 7 Miles Per Hour. So certainly put them in your thoughts, everybody, as they deal with dorian this morning. We will talk about our california weather which is a very different scenario when i come back in a few moments. Back to you. Thank you. Hurricane dorian is closing in on the bahamas as a category 5 storm. This is a very dangerous situation. We heard kyla say winds are increasing to 180 Miles Per Hour. Storm surges anywhere from 15 23 feet. Those who didnt evacuate are being told that they are on their own if they end up being stranded or need help. The police will not be coming for you in the middle of a hurricane. You will have to hunker down. If your head is hard and stubborn and you will not move, you will have to hunker down after a certain time. And people have been tracking this hurricane. Though it might be difficult for some. It is moving through the bahamas and could make landfall in georgia or the carolinas this week. Several counties in florida have issued mandatory and voluntary evacuation orders and more may be issued tomorrow. Airport Officials Say in orlando because the path of the hurricane has shifted they plan to maintain the flight schedule through tuesday. They had planned to shut down the airport early tomorrow morning. They say theyre keeping an eye on the storm and it appears that dorians path wont affect the orlando area. Hurricanes are not always predictable and if the storm path changes again, they will have to adjust operations to keep everyone safe. President trump is speaking after returning from camp david. He is at the white house. He canceled his trip to poland for world where 2 ceremonies to respond to the hurricanes. A lot of republicans and democrats. People want to do something. This hasnt changed anything. Were doing a package. And we will see what how it comes about. It is coming about right now. And a lot of people are talking about it. And thats irrespective of what happened yesterday in texas. Rday in texas. Were looking at a lot of different things. Were looking at lot of different bills, ideas, concepts. It has been going on for a long while. Background checks. I will say that for the most part sadly if you look at the last four or five going back even five or six or seven years, for the most part as strong as you make your background checks, they would not have stopped any of it. So it is a big problem. It is a mental problem. It is a big problem. China is moving along. Were doing very well. It was brought out very strongly today by a number of great economists that because china has devalued their currency so much that if in fact they are paying for all of the tariffs. We have in addition to that as you know they are pouring mover money into their economy. So they are paying for their tariffs. New tariffs, were taking in tens of billions of dollars. Were giving some of the money weve been listening to the president who has been at camp david all weekend long. Touched on a few issues. Not dorian. I imagine he spoke about that earlier but touched on the gun control after the texas shooting killing seven yesterday. He also touched on china trade which could have some effect on the markets tomorrow. Talking about what is going on with china. Police in San Joaquin County credit help from the public in finding a suspect in the killing of a 64yearold sick man singh. He was killed in the park in tracy last zondek. Two men have been arrested for the theft of those three dogs. A settlement has been reached in a yes, sirs long battle to end cash bail in San Francisco. The agreement between the sheriff and a legal nonprofit will allow for those charged with nonviolent felonies to be released without bail. This couples five months after a federal judge ruled that the cash bail system wasnt fair to low income defendants. The settlement needs to be approved before it is final. As you can see, this is a massive storm. It is a category 5. It has 180 mile per hour sustained winds. The eye of the storm is about to come ashore here in the bahamas. That is about to roll across and imagine around the eye, 180 mile per hour sustained winds in the Tropical Storm force winds at 100 miles out. Within 30 miles. This is devastating when we see this happening. Here are the statistics. 180 mile per hour sustained wind. It is a category 5 at this hour. The path expected to go up the east coast and stay offshore is it going up to north or south carolina. Notice how it stalls out here as we go through monday, losing a little bit of power, but not much. It is category 5, category 4, very dangerous. The biggest threat outside of the wind damage is the storm surge. Could have the possibility of storm surge up to 15 feet. Imagine that, a wall of water being driven. It is usually the front right quadrant of the hurricane that you see the worst damage from the storm surge. This is the spaghetti poppa shows the models of we are it is expected to go. We have it an outlier ticket ashore but it will stay offshore the coast of florida thing come into contact with land as a gets into the carolinas. Homes and businesses are boarded up. Some people put sandbags in the doorways to protect structures from to wrench and rain, wind, and flooding. They also used boats to move some people from lowlying areas to higher elevations. Many people have already evacuated. Government official says anyone who does not is putting themselves in harmway. The police will not be coming for you the middle of a hurricane. You will have to hunker down. If your head is hard and stubborn and you will not move, you will have to hunker down. A lot of storm prep here the United States as well. People in the southeastern states are bracing for the powerful hurricane. They are securing homes and heading to Grocery Stores and Hardware Stores for things like batteries, water, and gas canisters. Several counties in florida have issued voluntary evacuation orders. Seven people dead in west texas this morning in another mass shooting. The gunman was stopped by state troopers, opened fire, and flood, shooting more than 20 people. This happened in odessa in the heart of texas oil country. Odessa just a few miles west of midland. Those cities make up a metropolitan area. It began with a traffic stop on the freeway on saturday afternoon. The driver exchanged gunfire with Police Setting off a canada change chain of events. This matches the numbers in all of 2018. This happen one day before new gun laws were set to go into effect in texas, making it easier to carry guns in Public Places, including schools and churches. Licensed gun on earth gun owners can store them in their vehicles as long as theyre out of sight. They can also carry weapons into a place of worship, unless there are signs that prohibit guns. Landlords can no longer prohibit gunowners who are legally licensed to carry. And and new law allows gunowners to legally carry concealed weapons without a license for up to 48 hours after the governor orders an evacuation. When passing the legislation, officials said that they want to people who visit schools and churches to have the ability to defend themselves and others. A truck driver has been sentenced for classical 13 people and a tour bus in 2016. He pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter. Prosecutors say that he fell asleep behind the wheel when the traffic was stopped and when it started moving again, his truck was still stopped on the interstate and eight tour bus slammed into the back of it. Police say that the victim refuse of the suspect got back into his own car and drove off. The car was found abandoned nearby. A deadly Chemical Exposure at a San Jose Hotel kills one woman and send several others to the hospital. Four floors had to be evacuated at the san jose Fairmont Hotel yesterday morning because of chemicals. Fire officials described the smell like rotten eggs. And as Leigh Martinez tells us, they believed the incident was a suicide by chemicals. Reporter a Fairmont Hotel worker discovered the body inside a room on the 19th floor. A strong chemical odor was also in the room and escaped out the open door. Initial reports said that that somebody had attempted suicide on the 19th floor using chemicals. Reporter they are still investigating the cause of death. San jose fire officials confirmed that hazmat crews found the body of a woman inside the room along with several bottles filled with liquid. Seven Hotel Workers and two guests experienced symptoms. They were decontaminated and taken to the hospital. They were complaining of feeling faint and lightheaded with shortness of breath. None of them appear to be life threatening. Reporter the floors were evacuated as a precaution. I was in the hotel room on the 19th floor and we heard a bunch of sirens go off in the room and they were saying to please evacuate if you are in level xviii, 19, or 20. So we do not know what was going on. They said it is not a fire, but please evacuate and go to the lobby. It felt like a gas smell. Everything was so quick. Later, the evacuated floor 17. We came back after breakfast to get my sunglasses and they said that we could not even go in then. So, we walked to target and came back and spent a couple of hours. We are still not sure. Reporter by late saturday afternoon, they had not been inside to start the investigation because the hazmat team had not finished testing the liquid found inside the room. They did take their own air with them so they did not have to breathe the air up there. The clothing was offgassing with a strange odor, so rather than expose them to potential problems, they will be making the next entry at a higher level of protection. A total ofs 20 hazmat members finished separating and testing the chemicals. The San Jose Police are handling the criminal invest station. At this time, the hotel has been repopulated, with the exception of the 19th or. It still needs to be environmentally clear to were told that a private Hazmat Company will be in charge of cleaning up the room. The backside had the partial wall collapse and roof collapse we see the water towers right now. The Building Owners were on scene and said the four men were working on the roof when the fire started. They were during the roof in the back of the building and that is where the fire started. 800 gallons of water per minute comes from the nozzle and they drenched of the building for hours to prevent the fire from flaring up and spreading. The building is empty, the owners say a new lounge business was going to open his soon in the Business Owner was just two weeks away from remodeling. The people have been working for almost a year and a half. Now the entire place will need to be gutted. For years, hayward has tried to draw more people downtown and new businesses help in that effort. Another nearby Building Owner says that the fire will be a temporary setback. Because they see a building that has been burned out and there is a lot of smoke damage. There is a lot of a water damage as well.
