Thats the good news. Sources there, checking that 880 span from oakland all the way down through hayward and union cities. Getting a little slowing through hayward. That crash you see at the top of your screen. Thats northbound 880 at high street. That was this morning. More than an hour ago. Its now been cleared out of the way. Traffic recovering in that area. Heres 880 in oakland. Just what we have just mentioned. This has been cleared. This is at the coliseum, north and southbound. And traffic having no problems, getting from this point downtown to downtown oakland. Southbound looks good as well. Heres 280 in san jose. A little slowing in the northbound directions. But no specific problems here. 7 02. Lets go back to the desk. All right, allie. An Investigation Continues now in hayward, after one pedestrian was hit and killed by a car. And another was hurt. And is in the hospital. It happened just after 9 30 last night, at hathaway avenue and a street. Sheriffs deputies say the driver involved did stop and is cooperating with investigators. A man is in jail this morning, accused of sexually attacking two women on a connector bus between san ramon and the walnut creek b. A. R. T. Station. Police believe 58yearold Ernesto Acuna is involved anyone with information on this case is asked to contact san ramon police. And take a look at this photo San Jose Police are asking for help looking for missing 11yearold ivan gonzalez. He was last seen walking from his home at 1 00 wednesday afternoon. Hes 52, 120 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Ivan was wearing a blue Golden State Warriors hat, red tshirt and shorts with the superman logo. His mom said he walked to the store to get pizza and did not come back. And said it is not like him to walk off. There was another attack near the embarcadero. This is heating up. This is the Second Attack like this in just two weeks. Both happened in front of a condo complex on beal street. This surveillance shows a man running up, hitting the victim in the head and running away. You see it here. The victim did not want to be identified. Said he was getting out of a rideshare car just before 9 00 p. M. Tuesday night when he was attacked. I was completely shocked. I didnt know what to think. I you know, at first, i wanted to follow him to see where he went. Now, the police did respond, but no arrests were made. The neighbors in the area blame the citys plans to build a Homeless Navigation Center next to the building there for attracting crime, and the homeless to that area. However, the victim says he doesnt know if his attacker was homeless. A suspect who was arrested after an argument at a taco shop in the north beach has been released from jail. Surveillance video captured that incident, showing the owner of xos truffles, telling a man who appeared to be homeless, to leave the store monday. The video also shows the owner following the man outside. The homeless man said he put the owner in a choke hold in selfdefense. San francisco d. A. s office says charges against the man have been dropped because they cant disprove the case of self defense. And the case remains under investigation. The shop owner tells us, they hope the man doesnt return. San franciscos cashless ban now in effect. That means all stores must accept cash or face a fine. One of the stores that really opened with this model of being cashless, so that people could use their smart phone to make purchases. But now, these are among several businesses that are being forced to accept cash. They changed their Business Model under pressure. Signs were a common site at stores and cafes that said things like, no cash. Thats because store owners said using credit and debit cards made for faster, more efficient service, and provided a safer environment. Some say having cash on hand can invite crime. But back in may, the San Francisco bord of supervisors passed a requirement that brick and mortar accept cash as a payment as well. One of the reasons for this is because the board said lowincome people might not have a credit card. Not accepting cash is discrimination. Amazon go started accepting cash a couple of months ago. Others followed suit to make similar adjustments. I did speak with some san franciscans and got their take on this new law. I actually think thats a good thing. Some people dont have access to it, you know, payment systems, cards, credit cards, debit cards. How do you usually pay . Well, i use credit cards for most things. But i do carry cash, and for smaller items, i generally do use cash for those. So i do use cash. I wouldnt be real happy with that. It happened near the winter streetlight rail station. More than a dozen ambulances and 40 firefighters rushed to the scene. No one had any life threatening injuries. And there were no deaths associated with this incident. There were only two that were determined to be moderate. They were classified as moderate. The rest were classified as walking wounded or delayed in treatment. That means were not in a need to rush them to a hospital. 13 of those who were injured were treated. The investigation is just beginning. Later this year, the b. A. R. T. Board of directors is expected to formally consider a ban on panhandling. Deborah allen submitted her review even though it was not on the official agenda. It would also ban. Allen said it is what she calls a reasonable ordinance for the benefit of its rider. I believe that our obligation as an agency to provide safe, clean, reliable, quality transit, overrides that First Amendment free speech argument. Just the last few days, the residents there have been through incredible anxiety and panic attacks and fear. City Officials Say the problem is that dozens of long term beds are sitting empty. Police say regoso mont a montoya threatened to kill his coworkers. He was arrested after he revealed his alleged plot to a coworker. Police say he had tons of guns and rounds of ammunition inside his home. I had clear plans, intent and the means to carry out an act of violence that may have resulted in a mass casualty incident. Investigators say montoya worked as a cook at the hotel and was angry because he was about to be fired. Another fownd raiser is fundraiser is set next month. The benefit auction is being called gilroy stronger. It will be held september 7th at gilroy elks lodge. Organizers are asking for donations to provide Financial Support to shooting victims and their families. The event will include a number of performers from the gilroy area. So that is good news there. Temperatures this morning, several degrees cooler than where we started yesterday. Right now, a look at sfo in San Francisco, at 60 degrees. We have a little bit of fog out there. Along the coast and inside the bay. Santa rosa reporting 55 right now. We have low 60s in oakland, livermore and san jose checking in right about 65. Activelies will remain milder than where we were yesterday. Home start over the north bay. We have a weak onshore breeze in fairfield, at about 14 Miles Per Hour. Heres a look at the highs expected for today. Along the coastline, we will go areas 60. Pacifica, 64. Around the bay, going to be a warm one. 80 degrees in san mateo. Because remember, we mentioned that sal is on his way down to fremont. And i just checked the maps. And there say crash that he is in, kind of caught in the backup. He said yes, it is slow. This is southbound 880. At alvarado niles. Theres a bus blocking the slow lanes. And two are the vehicles on the righthand shoulder. So be aware of that. Take 580 to get around it. If you want to avoid that. Over in San Francisco, southbound 280, just south there is a collision blocking the middle lane there. The crash icon for it hasnt popped up just yet. But i suspect it will shortly. And we want to check on that commute in eastern contra costa county. Your drive is going to be slow to concord into 38. Heres a look at the sunol grade. This area of the fremont area looking good. You can see traffic moving good without any problems in the northbound and southbound directions on 680 here. And also san mateo bridge. Its a little busy. Stop and go traffic here, but no major problems on the bridge or when you get to the other side of the peninsula. 7 31. Lets go back to the desk. All right, allie. Critics of googles plans to build offices in downtown san jose. Still trying to block it. Dealing owns in october, they will submit a plan to the city. But last night, at a meeting to show off those plans, protestors booed those plans. [ chanting ] now, inside city hall, google executives shows preliminary plans, including mixeduse offices, shops, restaurants, and 15 acres of parks and plazas. Also, they say theyre committed to creating jobs and building up to 5,000 housing units. And donate money for homeless and antidisplacement grants. But critics say googles plans to bring in 20,000 employees will make housing cost more. I make one of the higher i cannot afford more than 8500 a month. Its to live a decent life in this area. This is a much bigger issue than just the deerdon area. Its a city wide issue and regional issue. Police moved in. They removed protestors who tried to disrupt googles presentation. The process is far from over. City staff will make recommendations to city council at the end of next year. San jose police are taking on issues of hate and harassment. A new Program Partners with local businesses to give victims a safe place to report crimes am. Ktvus reporter ann rubin shows us the two Big Companies that are already on board. These decals are meant to send a message about hate and harassment. But it wont be tolerated in san jose. And the businesses displaying them are safe places to report these crimes. Its a new program. Its simple. And what we would already do for somebody in trouble. We let them stay there until help has arrived. All 25 branch will have the safe place stickers. So will 62 san jose starbucks locations. Employees will be taught to comfort. All of our decals are safe place decals. And we posted in all of our stores. Partners will be trained on how the program works. San jose police modeled the program, after one that started in seattle. There, the department saw increase reporting in hate crimes as a result. Chief eddie garcia shows it might have an impact here. It shows that were in this together. This is not just a Police Department issue. The fact that were partnering with corporations, it tells everybody, no, this city, not just the Police Department, the city will not tolerate hate crimes. This is a way i know chief garcia is saying, hey. Like were here. We want to support you. The program will combat hate. All kinds. The Lgbtq Community says its a step in the right direction. And hasnt come a moment too soon. I think it has been needed all along. And because of all of the extra hate that is going on, thank goodness people are taking action. Sjpd hopes the program will expand soon, with other businesses flying to become safe places as well. In san jose, ann rubin, ktvu fox 2 news. Our time is now 7 35. A man who was convicted of hitting a San Francisco Police Officer with a stolen car and leafing him severe leaving him severely brain damaged is convicted and received the maximum sentence. Willy flanagan was sentenced to more than 12 years in prison. Last month, he was guilty of several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon. Back in 2017, he tried to get away from police in a stolen suv when he hit bicycle Police Officer ilia luen tangle. That officer has been getting intensive treatment ever since. And in june, he was moved to a center in colorado, specializing in traumatic brain injuries. Meantime, in sonoma county, investigators just wrapped up a major drug bust after a 5month investigation. One pound of methamphetamine and quarter pound each of heroin and cocaine, were seized. They also seized three handguns and 116,000 in cash. Four men were arrested. Police say theyre suspected of conspiring to distribute the drugs in sonoma county. We just received an update about the damage caused by a wildfire now burning near redding. The fire did not grow overnight. But containment went up from 20 to 40 . It will be a grueling day for firefighters as temperatures in that area reached 105 degrees tuesday. Some were evacuated. But some are being allowed to return home. The fire is threatening about 1100 others. Private firefighting companies are stepping in to help Fire Agencies that are overwhelmed. A Company Called firestorm wildland Fire Suppression is 25 years old. Its based in chico. Has about 300 employees. Crews are now clearing out dry brush on 17 miles of land between berkeley and lafayette. This company is among eight in the nation, dedicated to wildfire prevention. We travel and do a lot of Emergency Response, wildland fires for the federal agencies. And were used to working with a lot of different people. We utilize the command system. Workers who work for firestorm may live in areas theyre trying to protect. Three dozen employees who were battling last years campfire in paradise, lost their own. The widow launching a new effort to preserve the history of the black Panther Party. Huey died 30 years ago. Black panthers were known for openly brandishing guns and challenging the authority of police. The groups fight for better housing, jobs and education for black people. 67 vital programs. On the peninsula, a couple of problems. Both on 280. One southbound 280, north of sneed. This is in san bruno. There is a collision blocking one of the middle lanes there still. And eastbound highway 92. A hitandrun crash right before the 280 connector. Heres 880 in oakland. We see a little slower traffic. Past the coliseum. As you approach downtown oakland and the macarthur maze. Once you get past that, it looks pretty much unchanged. Youre looking at a 20minute delay to get on the stand. A man is in jail, accused of sexually attacking two women on a bus. Police believe 58yearold Ernesto Acuna is responsible for the attacks last week. Detectives believe a third woman may have also been harmed by the suspect during that same time period. Anyone with information is asked to contact police. San jose police are looking for gonzalez. Near the winter streetlight rail station. More than a dozen ambulances and 40 firefighters rushed out to that scene. No one had lifethreatening injuries. We were checking on the south bay commute. Because there were a couple of crashes here that i was going to point out. But now, two of them have been cleared. An earlier crash at southbound 101 at blossom him road has been cleared. Although there are still some road closures because of that. But the other crashes still in the clearing stages. Northbound 35. Creating backup in the northbound direction. Lets look at danville, san ramon valley. There is that crash earlier we mentioned at elcan tado road in northbound direction of 680. That is still creating problems there. And looks like another crash in that area. In the southbound direction. Maybe a case of people slowing down to look at the crash on the other side of the freeway. And creating some sort of fender bender or backup in the backup to that crash. Heres 880 in oakland. Hopefully, theres no backup for crashes in the backups as we speak. In this direction, just a lot of really heavy traffic as we passed the coliseum. San mateo bridge also up as well. Golden gate bridge. Foggy. But traffic is moving without any problems here. 8 31. Lets go back to the desk. Indowntown san jose. Ffices and trying to block it. Google owns 60 acres of land around the derradon center. And will submit a planning application to the city in october. Last night, at a meeting to unveil those plans, protestors loudly booed. Meantime, inside city hall, google executive showed off preliminary plans that include mixeduse offices, shops, restaurants and 15 acres of parks and plazas. Also, google said its committed to creating jobs and building up to 5,000 housing units. And promised to invest in Affordable Housing funds. And donate money for homeless and antidisplacement grants. But critics say googles plan to bring in 25,000 employees will drive up housing prices. I make one of the higher amounts for social security. I cannot afford more than 580 a month, in order to live a decent life in this area. This is a much bigger issue than the derradon area. Its a city wide issue and a regional issue. Police were there. They had to remove some of the protestors who tried to disrupt the presentation. The process is far from over. The Development Review takes 12 months. City staff will make a recommendation to city council at the end of next year. San jose police have launched a new program to fight harassment and hate crimes in the city. Police are partnering with businesses to give people a safe place to report crimes. The businesses will have a say place sticker posted on their window. So far, two big businesses are already on board. Starbucks and wells fargo bank. Employees will be trained to help comfort victims and make 911 calls on their behalf. Its simple. And its an extension of what we would already do for somebody in trouble. Wed come into the branch and let them stay there until help arrives. It shows that were in this together this. Is not a Police Department issue. The fact that were partnering with corporations. It really tells everybody, this city, not just the Police Department. This city will not tolerate hate crimes. San jose police modeled the program after one that started in seattle in 2015. Seattle police say more people reported hate crimes as a result. San jose police plan to expand the program by adding more businesses. Our time is 8 34. The man convicted of hitting a San Jose Police officer with a stolen car and leaving him with severe brain damage was given the maximum sentence. 51yearold Willy Flanagan was sentenced to more than 12 years in prison. Last month, he was convicted of several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon. Back in 2017, he was trying to get away from police in a stolen suv when he hit bicycle Police Officer ilia luen tankle. That officer has been getting very intensive treatment ever since. And in june, he was moved to a center in colorado that specializes in traumatic brain injuries. Meantime, in sonoma county, investigators just wrapped up a major drug bust, after a 5month investigation. One pound of methamphetamine and a quarter pound each of heroin and cocaine, were seized. Investigators also seized three guns and 116,000 in cash. Four men were arrested. Police say they are suspected of conspiring to distribute drugs in sonoma county. An update now about the damage caused by a wildfire, burning near redding. This morning, cal fire says the mountain firdid not grow overnight. Its still at 600 acres. But containment went up from 20 to 40 . It will be a grueling day for firefighters as temperatures in the area could reach 105 degrees today. About 4,000 people were initially evacuated. The fire has destroyed one house and is threatening about 1100 others. Shasta college has canceled todays classes at its main campus. Private companies are helping out overwhelmed companies. 25yearold Company Based in chico and has about 300 employees. Their crews are clearing out brush on miles of land between berkeley and lafayette. Its one of eight companies in the country, dedicated to wildfire prevention. Of all of the zip trips weve done, fremont is definitely the biggest city. And i would say gasia, in my 14 years at ktvu, ive seen the city undergo a lot of changes. A lot of Tech Companies here. But theres still the classic neighborhoods throughout. Absolutely. I was going to throw out usually, a throw out one or two zip codes. Fremont has 94536 and 54560. The city is huge. With that comes a lot of diversity, excitement. But you really cant say the word fremont without thinking of this towns golden burrow. Lets think back to 1992. She was a young woman just 20 years old at the olympics. She was introduced as the 20yearold daughter of a Northern California dentist. We know her as Kristi Yamaguchi. Triple lutz, triple loop, do you believe salchow. She took home the gold. And has not quit in the years since then. Shes making an impact on and off the ice, doing great things. And not just here, in hore hometown of fremont. So Kristi Yamaguchi is here with her whole family. Well get to talk to them in just a few minutes. We must have our friends and the private industry to step up to the plate and to block these illegal robocalls. Now, the agreement requires those phone carriers to make the robocall detection tools to everybody for free. Right now, theres no deadline for the new technology to be in place. Apple says certain fabrics may damage its new titanium credit card. Leather and denim may scratch up and discolor the cards. Apple says the cards should not be placed this your pocket or in a bag with loose change or keys. Apple recommends putting the card in a wallet not made of leather or a bag of soft materials.
