Changes to federal benefits and immigration policies have some fearing green card status. We talk next about Services Available. Good morning, happy sunday fun day to you folks, we have got great weather coming our way. We have partly cloudy skies around the bay, a gorgeous view there. Temperatures are off to a cool to mild start. We do have unseasonably mild weather in the forecast for the afternoon. I have details coming up. The federal government is proposing new restrictions for the food stamp program. The Agricultural Department was to limit access to food stamps for 3 Million People who only receive minimal benefits. The fda says it is trying to stop a loophole in the system. The Trump Administration is introducing a new order that would deny green cards and visa extensions to immigrants that receive Public Benefits including food stamps. The state of california is among a number of states who filed a lawsuit against that order. A recent study from the urban institute says one and several adults and immigrant families did not apply or dropped out of benefit programs for fear of risking future green card status. Joining us to talk about all of this and Services Available to immigrants we have paul ash, thank you for coming in. Pleasure to be here. We have talked about this issue over the last couple of years when it comes to immigrants and seeking food and help. I have been a couple Different Levels of this in terms of the communities trying to serve. Where is your biggest concern with what has happened over the last couple of years and these last developments . Even the threat of rules like this, public charge role has caused people to drop out of the program or not sign up. We are already seeing people come to the food bank and say i used to get Public Benefits, i am not getting those anymore. Im afraid to. What can you do to help us . We are seeing more people come to the food bank. I know there has been concern over how it is funded with the snap program, but also then, it was the legal immigrants who are saying if i come, will now my family members be checked . Now it is legal immigrants who can come, but say what if i get kicked out later, or i lose my green card because of this . How does that affect how many people you serve . How many immigrants do you think the San Francisco food bank is serving right now . It is hard to know what a number of our recipients, we do not check things like that. We tried to feed everyone who said they need our assistance. We know there is a lot. When people come to the food bank, they do not have to worry about being checked and marked against them, that is not an issue. We have seen even the fear of Something Like this among legal immigrants who drive them away from getting the help they need. Reporter is it messaging now, we talked a lot about that. He put it messaging at food banks saying here is how it works, so you can still come in in terms of making sure the relationship that you guys have with the people youre trying to serve is preserved in this process. We were about that too. Even though we put this kind of signs and give that message out, that people say well, who knows. I did not think getting food stamps was going to be a problem two years ago. That is a problem. For signing up for something at the food bank, is that later on going to be an issue . We want to assure people it is not. We are not a public organization, we are a private nonprofit organization, they do not have to be fearful of using our services. Are you struggling to get them to believe that . Sometimes. Sometimes people will say i will not take the risk, it is too important for my family to go through this integration process the right way. How do you feel on the big picture, as immigration becomes a very bipartisan debate in washington, you were saying feeding the hungry has, in the past, not been a partisan issue. People from both sides of the aisle say when people need food we want to help them. Are you saying that really change in recent times . Absolutely, there have been great republican leader for food programs in congress. This administration doesnt seem to feel that connection with the fact that this country is the worlds greatest food producer. No one should go hungry, we should never drop below that drop below that place were beefy people here. How do you change and where do you see this going in terms of your mission . You have to work with the government to make this happen, and in some part to get these programs and get them to people. There are some legal challenges to this. We are hopeful that the state of california, some of the counties, some organizations that work on immigration issues will be successful in at least pushing this back longer. For us, it is trying to create a relationship with people where they know they can safely come and get the food they need hopefully, we can advise them a little bit on how they can get involved in other Programs School meals that have been affected with this. There are other ways that they hopefully can get food they need. I know some people also have advocacy groups in dc working as well as in sacramento, trying to also get lawmakers to change positions. Is that work also actively going on . Absolutely, there is movement in congress right now to try to not provide funds for this public charge to be rolled out. There is an effort to try to control it. You are just basic emotion yesterday with this latest development, this week when this latest development happened. It is sad, it is jawdropping that we would choose to go down this road im trying to take away food from people. There are families where there are citizen children, where their parents will withdraw from that program. So, citizens will not get a benefit that they deserve to get. And the hungry will remain hungry. Thats right, we know what that means. That means poor schoolwork, that means parents skipping meals, it means diet related diseases, there is nothing good about it. Thank you for the work you guys do at the San Francisco marina food bank and getting that message out that help is Still Available and waiting. In North Carolina man is proving that life has no limits. He has never taken a step on his own in his entire life. Friday, he went for a hike up sign hill in south San Francisco with company. His body says no, but his mind says why not. Reporter a nearly 2 mile hike up and down south city sign hill, easy for some. I can pretend like i know what it is. Reporter complicated for others like 33yearold kevin chandler. Kevin has never taken a step. He suffers from spinal Muscular Atrophy or sma. Things to a lot of heart, and some ingenuity, he is seeing the world. I love how wide open it is. It definitely gives a sense of freedom and clarity. Reporter kevin wanted out of his wheelchair. He teamed up with a German Company and developed a people carrying backpack. Two and half years in the making, he has since toured europe and hiked the great wall of china. He has opened eyes like his fellow hikers today from genentech that are working on a treatment for sma, and has become a role model for those that are fighting the good fight. As a brother, mission and desire it is to inspire others to get out, and live life to the fullest, knowing that that looks different for everyone. Reporter on this day, new friend jp stocks that are carried kevin and his 65 pounds on his back. There was help along the way. And a lasting connection that seems to fuel both the hiker and kevin. It is very inspirational. We had a chance to speak with kevin yesterday, we talked about the Partnership Income rather rebuild by carrying him. This is a cool opportunity to build that through physical exercise. Reporter and you can feel it can you . I absolutely can. Reporter sky fox caught the sum of this morning and the view was spectacular. There is something about that, it really opens up the heart and mind. Reporter what is next for kevin . India, new zealand, and south america are on his bucket list. Right now, he has Something Else in mind. Like thinking his fellow hiker for the trip up, and that trip back down. Jp, the job, you are a beast. And adam, good luck. They say we all made it down the hill just fine. Adam was a star at getting kevin back down. He has wrote a book, we carry kevin. He wants to see the world and he has been such a great role model, not only for people with sma, but a lot of people with disabilities that cant do a whole lot. Absolutely. Feeling like there are limits, he is showing that there are not. That is really incredible. And i said really nice weather as you walked up the hill . I was sweating darts by the time we got to the top of the hill. That changed over the weekend, but i guess the heat is coming back. Eventually. It will be a slow climb. Tomorrow will feel just a tad warmer. Into the afternoon today, temperatures will cool. We will take anywhere from a 3 to 6 degree drop for the second part of your day. What a gorgeous view, we have been taking that shot all morning long. It has not changed a whole lot. We have a mix of sun and clouds, and it is so nice. Here is a look at the coastline where we are covered in gray. As we get into the bay, we have a little bit of clearing their, along the peninsula a mix of sun and clouds, over towards the east bay as well. Portions of the south bay, looks like we are poor partly cloudy to mostly clear. We have a bit of a circulation right in here. That is bringing a southerly breeze to areas of central and south bay this morning. Areas over Half Moon Bay gusting to 18 Miles Per Hour. The crown prince and princess of serbia are in the bay area this weekend. Later they will join us here to talk about why they are here, their visit, and efforts to improve access to healthcare. The next american chinese original is here. New sichuan hot chicken. For a heart breaking limited time only at panda express. Welcome back, here is a live look at sfo starting tuesday, shots restaurants and Airline Lounges at the restaurant will no longer sell plastic bottled water. He will still be able to buy water at the airport, but they will now, and in recyclable bottles or approves compostable packages. One of the vendors leading the changes the bay area base path water. The bottle is made of aluminum and is reusable, and certainly recyclable. They are already on sale at several locations inside the airport. Here to talk about how that partnership with the airport and efforts to reduce waste are shot in the court in america robbie, the cofounders of path water. Hi guys, how are you . How are you doing . Making money selling water, that is awesome. Water is a big industry, too. Almost 300 billion, who would have thought that, right . It is an enormous industry. Plastic bottle water did not exist 50 years ago. People used to think it was crazy to buy a bottle of water. Now, here we are. How did he get started, you guys sitting around thinking we are entrepreneurs, water, i have got an idea. Was it like that or what . We are entrepreneurs and we love business, and making an impact. The, the way this really started was we were looking for a concept that was very simple, but made a huge impact in the world. And part of being a recyclable thing was a big deal for you guys, right . Yeah, we have always had a passion for the environment and saving the planet from plastic. The more we learned about the issue of how bad plastic is for our oceans, we shifted our entire focus into sustainability and we are leading that charge nationwide, helping organizations, airports, schools and Companies Get rid of plastic and were coming more green. How did your relationship with sfo start, because you will be the exclusive bottled water there here come tuesday. It really started because San Francisco airport has a zero waste goal, all of San Francisco has a zero waste goal. Everyone is moving that way. When they saw what we were doing and what we are all about, and how we put planet before profit, there was a lot of synergy there. We started communicating, working together, and really putting the pieces in place to get ready for whats happening right now. I was doing research, 9000 bottled waters get bought at sfo daily. Every day. That is incredible. I am guilty, i buy one, you cant bring them in, you have to buy them there. You want to drink it on the plane. That is pretty remarkable. Yeah, that is really what we are trying to do, is change the way that people think about drinking bottled water. Instead of having to go in there and grab a plastic bottle, now you can take this to the airport, you can pour it out before security, come back in, refill it, and youre off to the races. Are people more apt to recyclable aluminum bottle or can they are plastic . Yeah. I think the education of recycling aluminum, people already see the value in it. It is more natural for them to throw it in the recycling bins in a plastic bottle. Where do you get your water . Our water comes from one of the Top Manufacturers in the United States. It goes through an 11 step process. It is really great water inside, but its also you the benefit of the reusable bottles. Is there a taste to water . I am trying it right now it is fabulous. Did you taste test, or how does that work what you put in your bottle . We have done a lot of taste tests, we have done a lot of surveys. People see themselves as water, sewers, so, we definitely wanted to dial in on the quality of taste, and make sure it was really a top product. If we want to buy your water, what you charge for this . This is 20 ounces give or take, 20. 3, where can i buy it, do i have to go to the airport or is everywhere now . One of the key features of our product as being affordable. And, we wanted to combine the sustainability of a reusable bottle with the convenience and affordability of a typical bottled water. So, this model smaller bottle of 20 ounce retells around 20. It is in stores like safeway, 7 eleven, a lot of Convenience Stores including the airport. Then, the bigger bottle retails for 2. 49, also in safeway and a bunch of stores. We are growing fast all over the country and globally to replace plastic in every corner of the world. And i think sfo airport is important for us, because we are going to take the story of what we do in sfo, and do it in every single airport in the world, and just watched. Ellie is next, the new york, chicago, we will literally replace plastic everywhere. It certainly makes sense. I always carry water. If you have a plastic bottle in your bag they will take it. You can go in, down there, fill it up and youre good to go. You dont have to spend 7 dollars to pick up another one there. If it is only two bucks thats great. Guys all the best, thank you for coming in. And well done, well done. Shoddy and a mere from path water all right, lets move on. And we have details in the extended forecast coming up. We have the honor this morning of having his Royal Highness and her Royal Highness of serbia here with us on mornings on two. They are visiting the bay area and graciously agreed to come in to the studio. Thank you for coming in. What a privilege to have you here. I want to talk about the story that brought you here. It is interesting. The fact that you are royalty. But you have been spending the weekend at comicon. Amazing. We are very grateful to be guests of rick white who came and asked us to come here. We have been visiting every day, the convention center. Are you big comicon fans a . Yes. To see all of these people walking around, it is great. Do you have a favorite superhero . They have all done a great job. A super job. They are helping our charity and im very proud of my wife. She is a patron of lifeline who was a 501c3 in the United States taxdeductible and it helps the serbian children regardless of religion or origin. So they have been strongly helping. And we have been going around talk about it and they have been introducing us to fantastic people. And you guys do a lot of fundraising. In serbia, you are part of the royal family. In terms of using what you are given, to promote and help people. What is the issue in serbia . Do you do a lot of medical equipment and a lot of help to children and hospitals . Tell me the message you have for all the people you are talking to this weekend. First of all, it is a privilege to be here and to have friends like steve and rick. They have been incredible. They have tried so hard to bring the attention to everyone that we are there. And we are here to save lives. And we all want to unite together to make a difference. So i believe that, you know, i can see that steve and rick have really invested their lives and connecting the world through technology and now connecting the humanitarian parts of the world. And comicon is bringing this to all these people who enjoy themselves and saving lives at the same time. Tell us what the situation is in serbia and the situation you are trying to address. First of all, we like to say that there is strategy for war but no strategy for peace. Until we all unite and ask for peace, it is difficult to have peace. There are so many people in need, so how many people can really feel happy when there are people dying in other parts of the world. It is a privilege to make a difference and we are trying to make a help regardless. We are trying to help the children. The country was at war for 10 years in serbia. And thanks to the project and the ceo sending the containers to me. We filled the hospitals with what we needed. How many donations are you getting from americans . Amazing. The United States has been the best. They are saving our country. I was thinking that if every american tried a little bit to make a difference, but we have to remember that our children are the future philanthropists. And we have to raise them with learning the joy of giving, like i have learned the joy of giving from my parents who are very big philanthropists. I have always asked god for an opportunity to make a difference. And god blessed me with this wonderful husband and the opportunity to help. People say, i have never met a princess before. Princess is just a title. It is an opportunity to make a difference. If you dont have your crown in your heart, then what is the name . This is what is wonderful for my husband. That is what united us. He has his crown in his heart. We are fully aware of our responsibilities. Monarchy means unity it is above politics and above all of that. We are there for the people. Tell me about it. We have some pictures of the work you are doing and the donations you have gotten. I know both of you have connections to the United States and have children that live here. You have connections all over. When you are talking to americans, you are telling them about what this equipment as and the situations there. Sometimes i think americans, if they are not as welltraveled or if they have to cross an ocean to visit these other countries, what are you trying to tell them about the things you see and the things you have in serbia to connect to . This is a project where a hospital desperately needs a new room for deliveries. They have four times the amount of deliveries as before and they have not been able to grow into more. So they cannot have people waiting to deliver a baby. There is no time for that. This is what is hurting me now. I am looking to build a new operating room in this particular hospital because we dont want the women waiting to deliver to not have the space to deliver. We must try to respect every life, regardless of when the life is born. The passion you have is so easy to see with both of you. And just speaking to you for a few minutes before, this mission that you have gone on together, you travel everywhere. When i read where you have been, you have been nonstop. Do you think that the fact that you are part of the royal family, Queen Elizabeth being your godmother and king george, that it is almost surreal to americans i think, the royal family. But meeting you facetoface and hearing the passion from which you seek on these issues really goes a long ways to further the cause and help people. I must admit that the connection does help. It draws people together. It also promotes the needs which are extraordinary. We visited all the hospitals in serbia and the conditions are very bad. They would show us two incredible rooms. You would find a nightmare. There was need for every kind of medical piece of equipment you could ever imagine. And the training of doctors. My wife has an event ever your bringing 100 doctors from the border and 500 domestic doctors. Bringing them up to date with the latest techniques. This november, there is an event to deal with cancer. Cancer is a very big issue in serbia like it is in the United States. So to learn about the latest techniques. She works very hard. The United States is helping us. Tremendously. Tremendously. The medical we have now, june 18th of 2020 is the next one. There will be an event in november for cancer. We have the highest incidence of infant mortality in europe. Because for 10 years of war, the women did not want to have children. And started having a family when they finally had peace, then they were too old. And they could not carry the baby for nine months so a majority of the babies were born premature. So you have 15 babies being born. I was in tears. I asked god to help me try to save my babies. And we raised the funds to get 200 incubators. I said god bless you. Lets save the babies. Because nobody has an opportunity to be in the position and not take the opportunity to help. All of these babies we are losing them right in front of our eyes. As a mother and as a woman, it was impossible. And the worry was incredible. The highest incident of Breast Cancer in europe. Things to the foundation, i got half a Million Dollars and was able to get digital mammography and we have examined more than 100,000 women for Breast Cancer. We save all these young mothers. One was dying after the other. We have a responsibility in this world. And we all have to do our part. There are also incredible companies. One in the United States that gave the digital mammography machine worth 300,000 for free. And the United States ambassador came with it to a big city down south and delivered it. We work closely with the United States. It is incredible to see you and the work you are doing and the generosity i am glad to hear is coming from the United States. That gives us a lot of pride that people are stepping up to help. You have a website where people can learn more. It is called lifeline. Lifelineny. Org. And royal. U. S. We just celibate of this year, the 25 years of the chicago office. And now we will celebrate the 25 years in new york. One in toronto, canada. One in london where we just celebrated 25 years. And we have one in athens. We are trying very hard. My husbands grandfather was the king of greece. And his other grandfather was the king of yugoslavia. And here is my king. I am grateful to god that i have this opportunity. But without friends like steve and rick, bringing us here to comicon and bringing the humanitarian help through that, it is a blessing. One that the people are enjoying. They are saving lives. I really dont believe people would have thought that comicon was the place for this to be spread. But im glad that it was. Crown prince and princess, thank you. Thank you very much. We so appreciate it. We really appreciate the opportunity that your studio gave us in the start time to be here. Thank you very much for giving us the opportunity. God bless you. We will be on ktvu. Com putting on all the links to their website and all the information so you can learn more and help. That is on ktvu. Com. Mornings on two will be right back. 9 27 a. M. Students at a Wisconsin School have some new information on their identification this year.
