And so witnesses, they tell me that it was also chaotic because some children would get separated from their parents. And then this evening, they were all trying to get to that point. Alyssa, when you talk to some of the people down there, you heard the varying accounts of what happened, what stood out most to you about that situation there tonight . People told me they heard between 40 to 50 shots and that they say the shooter was using an Assault Rifle and that the shooter was wearing combat gear. They all ran as fast as they could, jumping into the back of the trucks to get out of the festival. And that is not a sound from earlier, but thats how they had to describe it. And i thought it was the fireworks at first, then they kept shooting or i guess it was the shooting. Then we ran into the trailer. We were bending there and it was in the back and they were there with a couple of other ladies, running away and then they came into that part with us and my son told us to get out of the trailer and keep running and then they came out of the gates, but we saw people running, screaming everywhere. And people who i have spoke with said it sounded like at one point the shooter reloaded. They said that they started shooting right as they came on stage to perform a song and so people, they were dancing, having a great time. When the shots rang out, some thought it might be fireworks and once they realized the severity, people started running. Live in gilroy, ktvu, fox 2news. People describing chaos, and thank you for that report. We heard from the Gilroy Police chief, scott smith, describing the chaotic scene and here is what he had to say about what happened. And there were reports of shootings on the north side of the garlic festival area. And they were in that area and engaged the suspect in less than a minute. The suspect was shot and killed. And it appears as though they would have come into the festival via the creek, which borders our parking area. And they would use some sort of a tool to cut through the fence to be able to gain access to the secure fence line. And thats how they got into the festival in that self. We would have some witnesses reporting that there may have been a second suspect, but we dont know if that suspect was engaged in any shootings. Or whether they may have been in some sort of a support role. And the person that we have, accounted for. And so we have a recap for you. It started at 5 41. We were told thats when the shots started to ring out. The gunman started shooting at this festival randomly we were told and within a minute of that shooting rang out, thats when a Gilroy Police officer, Police Officers engaged with the gunman. That was a minute as soon as the shooting started and shot the gunman dead as you heard there, police are looking for a possible second suspect involved here. A search going on right now. And were told the gunman actually gained access to the gilroy garlic festival by cutting through a fence to gain access to that area. Four people including the gunman dead. 15 others injured. Reporter city leaders express shock and sadness about what transpired here today. As you mentioned, four people were killed in the gilroy garlic festival including the gunman. When it all started around 5 40 this evening. Police say a man with a rifle, started shooting. Witnesses tell us its seems to be random as they say this man and someone else, it sounds like two men, apparently cut through a fence. Managed to come inside.
