The manager says the Storage Units contained classic car, work tools and important documents. I had people calling, seeing if their stuff is loss. A person came in asking where do we go from here. The homeless man who lives in a grassy area near the Storage Units lost most of his belongings in the fire. The fire is under investigation. An official with Contra Costa County Fire Protection says most fires like these are caused by human activity, particularly along a highway where a cigarette is thrown out of a vehicle or a malfunction. Berkley City Council Given preliminary approval to the first step to phase out the use of natural gas in New Buildings. The council held the first vote on allocating 273,000 to create a job in the planning department. That person would oversee the plan to require New Buildings use electricity as the only power source, meaning no gas steves, driers or heaters. Supporters of the idea say natural gas creates greenhouse gases, berkleys goal is to have 40 of buildings gas free by the year 2030. The city Council Voted to ban city agencies from using facial recognition software. That ban would mean police and city departments can not use the new technology. Oak land police do not have that software, they will not be allowed to buy it. It keeps the city from using it if the software is given to them by other Law Enforcement agencies. This was just a preliminary vote. This council is scheduled to take the final vote in september. San francisco is the first city in the country to ban the software. The black hawk area in danville near the reservoir in contracosta is watched by seismologists after several quakes yesterday. There were four quakes yesterday afternoon, the biggest were magnitude 4. 3 and 3. 5, 13 minutes later. They were felt in oakland and as far away as santa cruz, stockton and San Francisco. The quakes were centered near the reservoir and along the greenville fault.
