What they have to do now is repair the guardrail and they also have to retrieve the truck that went down the hillside. Sadly, the driver of the truck did die in this Early Morning crash. It all started with this man from forestville expected to be sentenced to three consecutive life terms. He is accused of shooting and killing two people in 2004 while they were in their sleeping bags on a beach. They were engaged to be married and were away on a weekend trip. They were councils at a youth camp in el dorado. For 13 years investigators searched for the killer. Her mother spoke with us about the cold case in 2014. She had a message for the killer of her daughter. We will someday find you. You will pay a price weather here on earth are when you die or maybe both. Three years after the interview, he was arrested for killing his brother at the family home in forestville. He began talking to investigators about the killings at the beach and the attempted murder of a man two months before. The District Attorney says in exchange for his plea of no contest to all three murders she decided not to seek the death penalty. She said it was a decision that was made after speaking with the families of the victims and looking at the evidence in the cases. The hearing start at 9 am today it is unclear if the families will be here. We do know the da office says they are satisfied with the result. On thursday, a jury found him guilty of several charges including assault with a Deadly Weapon and eating a Police Officer. He was being investigated for possible gun violation when he tried to run and crashed into a bicycle Patrol Officer who suffered severe brain damage. 50 Police Officers packed the courtroom to hear the verdict. A man arrested for a felony dui hit and run crash were a small child was hit at a shopping center. He is due in court. He is accused of running into a 2yearold girl at town center and driving away. He was later arrested. Officials say he has had four dui convictions in the last six years. Witnesses say the little girl ran into traffic and was not in a crosswalk when she was hit. It was put out quickly but has slowed down the process. The truck that went down the hillside has been hooked up to cables on two different tow trucks. The plan is to slowly pull the truck up. We know the man that was driving the truck was killed in this accident. The three and four lanes are still locked. Officers are trying to clear the scene while caltrans is working to fix the guardrail. This happened about 5 am on eastbound i 80. The chp says the driver crashed into the guardrail and went down the hillside. The man died and did not have identification. The coroner was out here earlier this morning. The situation initially chp thought multiple cars were involved but some cars hit the guardrail after the truck was already down the hill. Officers do not know why the man crash. They do have general advice for drivers. Early in the morning pay attention. If you are sleeping exit the freeway. Slow your speed down and pay attention. That is the best advice i can give. There is a fire engine here, firefighters monitoring the scene because not too long ago we saw a lot of smoke and a small grass fire. There are firefighters around the area. They will try again to pull up the truck and hopefully have these lanes reopened. Traffic is moving slowly it is congested in this area. The westbound lanes are not bad no slowdowns. Eastbound as the scene is still here there are drivers that are slow moving through. Lets go over to sal. The westbound backup is not severe anymore. Let me put up the map again. Earlier this morning when it was dark and this happened there were flashing red and blue lights people were slowing down. It is daytime and there is not much to see. The westbound commute has not been bad. Eastbound traffic has been slow at the scene. If you are driving the other way on 680 there is slow traffic that has been hit and miss this morning. It is not the same volume of traffic as it would be on a spring or fall commute. At the bay bridge a 20 minute delay. Silicon valley, the second spot that has slow traffic. The job center is getting slow traffic the peninsula also. It is ever so slightly better volume today. Clear whether this morning. Even the coast is looking good. Temperatures will warm up a little bit. It has been a foggy month for many at the bay but not today. Today a man charged with killing three people including his own brother is scheduled to be sentenced. The crimes were committed over a span of years. It all started with this man from forestville expected to be sentenced to three consecutive life terms. He is accused of shooting and killing two people in 2004 while they were in their sleeping bags on a beach. They were engaged to be married and were away on a weekend trip. They were counselors at a youth camp in el dorado. For 13 years investigators searched for the killer. Her mother spoke with us about the cold case in 2014. Three years after the interview, he was arrested for killing his brother at the family home in forestville. He began talking to investigators about the killings at the beach and the attempted murder of a man two months before. The District Attorney says in exchange for his plea of no contest to all three murders she decided not to seek the death penalty. She said it was a decision that was made after speaking with the families of the victims and looking at the evidence in the cases. A man arrested for a felony dui hit and run crash where a small child was hit at a shopping center. He is due in court. He is accused of running into a 2yearold girl at town center and driving away. He was later arrested. Officials say he has had four dui convictions in the last six years. Witnesses say the little girl ran into traffic and was not in a crosswalk when she was hit.
