He was part of an informal invitation by leader kim jong un. He talked about the significance of the visit. Here is his statement through an interpreter. I never expected this, the first u. S. President to cross over. The meeting was arranged after the president said he would be willing to meet with kim while he was in asia for the g20 summit in japan. After crossing into north korea mr. Trump thanked the north carolinian leader saying the agreement made them both look good. As a sign of progress for both north korea and south korea and the rest of the world. World. I think the relationship that we developed has been so much to so many people. It is an honor to be with you. It is honor the u. S. Can step over that line and i was proud to step over the line. The two men met on the south korean side of the dmz for nearly an hour and agreed to revive negotiations on north Koreas Nuclear weapons. This is the third time the two men have met and President Trump says he hopes to invite kim jongun to the white house very soon. At least one person was killed in a crash on highway 24 in orinda. A car was headed the wrong way in the westbound lanes near the gateway boulevard off ramp at 2 00 this morning. At least one other person was seriously injured and taken to the hospital by helicopter. All lanes have been cleared now. In San Francisco hundreds of thousands of people will be at the pride parade to see the projects and colorful floats. Ktvus Elissa Harrington is along the parade route with more on the reparation under way. Good morning. Reporter good morning. This will be a lot of fun today. We video seen the volunteers putting up these barriers. They will be closing off Market Street here from beall to 8th throughout the day. This is video from last years parade, one of the largest in the world. This year nearly 300 contingencies will march down Market Street. There will be several stages set up with live music and performances. The theme this year is generations of resistance. The largest pride parade here in San Francisco but yesterday there were several other events including the installation of the triangle on twin peak. The celebration is also a reminder for the fight of equal rights for all. It is very important that we tell people to register and get out and vote. It is the only way to make a difference is we get out there and vote regardless of what we think is going on, we need to get out there and vote. I feel like everybody is really getting behind pride in a way i dont think i have seen before. I mean, it feels really good. I feel like it is really pulling people together reporter driving to the city is not recommended. There will be all sorts of road closures starting at 9 00. Market between 8th and beall will be closed. Muni will be redirecting some of their service. If you are coming to the parade to either participate or be a spectator, take bart. Elissa harrington, ktvu fox 2 news. A familiar face with the Giants Organization is returning to the team. That will happen on tuesday. It will cost you a little more to cross the golden gate bridge. The toll increase that will take effect tomorrow. And House Democrats remain at odds with the president over immigration but there is now a bipartisan agreement to help might families held in detention centers. More on that when we come back. Welcome back. We are starting out with gray clouds and fog in the city but things will burn off by mid morning, early afternoon, just in time for the pride parade. More on that coming up. Well, people packed San Francisco city hall for a town hall meeting where a wide range of topics were addressed including the ongoing battle between House Democrats and President Trump. Joining us to talk about the latest town hall we are joined by the congresswoman. Caller good morning. The president has become the first to set foot in north korea. Who do you expect will come of this . Caller i think we all hope that negotiations will resume resume. So far the visits and exchanges between the president and kim jongun have not produced anything. I was really taken aback that he would meet with him and on north korean soil. And i say that because kim jong un is one of the most brutal dictators in the world. He has held on to power by murdering many members of his own family, generals and so many others. This is one of the worst characters in the world. And what i think the interpretation in north korea will be is that the president of the United States was being used by the north Korean Leader. It seems to me that you negotiate first, and then meet publicly to announce what you have achieved, but nonetheless, that is when the president chose to do. He likes to surprise people by what he does and i think that he did that with the meeting. So, now, many president s have gone to the dmz to view it. This is an area where there is, you know, many, many miles of neutral zone, but the north koreans have their weaponry pointed directly at south korea. We have 30,000 troops there. It is the most integrated form of forces between the south koreans and americans and, of course, the u. N. Is there, as well. I remember very well when it was said that the fighting in the korean war had ceased, but it really has never ended. Congresswoman, we want to talk about some other issues here of Nuclear Weapons that north korea opposes is a heavy, serious threat. Congresswoman, we want to get to some other issues, as well because there are still rising tensions between the u. S. And iran. You called on fellow lawmakers to pass a bill authorizing military strikes without approval. Does this have enough bi partisan support, particularly in the 123459, to go anywhere . I can not speak to the senate but i can speak to the house. We have bipartisan support. We blended the idea of more than one member and we will be offering that as an amendment to the defense bill. It says very clearly that the constitution of the United States places the power of calling for war in the hands of the congress and i think it is very important that the Administration Plan any attacks that they must come to congress and the Congress Debate whether we go to war or not. It is very clear and very simple. Lets talk also about domestic issues. The house approved the Senate Republican version of the bill. Despite push ben carson from democrats that said there werent enough safe guards to insure money is spent on food, blankets, soap and not just immigration enforcement, why do you believe this was the right bill to pass . Well, there were two bills. One that the house passed that i thought was stronger and the senate voted on a bipartisan basis a different form of the bill. I think the focus in this always has to be, was and still is the children at the border. They deserve to have these funds because we learned of all the abuses and neglect. So the 4. 6 billion will go to correct what we know is wrong but how can you guarantee that that money will go to things that the children there are going to need . Caller well, it is targeted. The original bill had more structure in it in terms of the administration, that they could not use the money for other uses. But it is my understanding that the Vice President spoke to the speaker and told her that they would use the money as we wish directed. But, again, you know, no one gets everything that they want. And it was very important to pass the bill so these dollars would go directly to what we care about and that is the children, the children, the children. And if we didnt pass it, the deadline was the end of this month, june 30th, so we could not leave these human beings without the assistance they need. The july 4 recess is under way and many congressional members are hosting town Hall Meetings with constituents like you did yesterday. It looked like a full house from the pictures. What was the most important issues your constituents brought up with you . Caller well, there are several. They dont have confidence that our Voting System will be hardened so that there wont be a foreign interference in our election as there was in 2016. Do you have confidence in that . Caller there were people there that spoke about medicare for all. There were people that spoke about special counsel mueller testified and where the house of representatives would go from there. Very lively discussions an excellent questions which is always the case with my constituents all right. Well, thank you for much for speaking with us com anna eshoo. Thank you. And there is relief for all of us dreading waiting for hours at the dmv. The Welcome Change that starts tomorrow at select dmv offices. It is 7 20. We will be right back. T back. It will be another nice day in the bay area. The forecast coming up. And President Trump became the first sitting u. S. President to set foot inside of north korea. Kim jongun and President Trump met for the First Time Since the talks broke down at the last summit held in vietnam. For more on this and other political news is david mccewan, a Political Science professor at sonoma state. Good morning, david. Good morning. Lets get your reaction on how big a deal this was to have these two leaders meet on north korean soil . What do you think . Well, one, this is a dramatic, historic step that really no other president could make. It is symptomatic, emblematic of President Trumps style. A shoot from the hip kind of uncrypted presidency. An unscripted moment. That is dramatic. The other almost is what comes next. On the other hand we have to remember that kim jongun is a Third Generation tyrant. He kills people. Nonetheless, a made for tv moment and right in the wheelhouse of how President Trump operates. Lets play off that, david. President trump wrote the book art of the deal. Is this part of his strategy to build the relationship, the oneonone face time and broker a Big Nuclear Deal with the country . To broker the Big Nuclear Deal it will take concessions by the United States. Certainly the north korea Country Holding on to their Nuclear Weapons is significant. Ivanka trump and Jared Kushner played a large role in the trip, as well, the whole summit. That places someone like secretary of state mike pompeo in a difficult position because as the United States really forecasts what comes next and whether they will remove bases or forces from north korea, those types of concessions will be handles within the white house and that places the professional Forecasting Team at the state department or National SecurityForeign Policy teams sometimes at odds with what the white house wants. But clearly the made for tv moment, walltowall coverage is something that President Trump really relishes. Again, it is part of his presidency and we will see something rise out of this but the question is what do those details look like . Certainly getting a lot of attention in the world stage including the pope saying it is a further step forward in the walk for peace. And who you had you think it played out in north korea . Yes. For north korea it is a dramatic moment, as well. Many of the team that failed the forecasting last time were executed. What are they going to do and what concessions happen from their side . That obviously effects south korea. South korean politics, japan and what happens to the japanese economy, the chinese. The regional implications of this are dramatic. That also spills over to iran and renegotiating the Iranian Nuclear deal. So President Trump will want to play the opposite of this but the question is what do the details look like . Is it sizzle or stake . They certainly have a lot on the plate. Lets play off that. The progress with china at the g20 summit. The President Trump tweeting the quality of the transaction is far more important than the speed. Apparently he is not in a hurry but at least they are chatting. Your reaction to that . There are domestic policy implications for this. As we move closer and closer to the 2020 reelection period and as democrats start to go after this administration in terms of its tone and rhetoric, the Trump Administration is really going to key on a couple of issues. One of the issues is immigration but the other is the state of the economy. As the economy turns along, the chinese will have an important component to that, an Important Role in that. That will effect the negotiations. When we look at what happens to farmers or manufacturing and the auto industry, the mt. Want to go back and forth in managing the tariffs and the structure of those agencies and the structure of those industries because that effects his vote managers in places like wisconsin and minnesota. Was there in a winner in the democratic debate this is week and perhaps a lose center. Certainly beto bombed. Californias own Kamala Harris clearly a winner out of this debate. She will be able to move her campaign forward and so will Lizbeth Warren it should be interesting. David, always a pleasure. Thank you for joining us on this early sunday morning. Thank you for having me, frank. Thank you. More on the big sf pride parade coming up. This is how driving should feel. The techadvanced nissan leaf. The best selling electric vehicle of all time. I was not prepared for the artistry. The really extraordinary beauty of it. A piece hangs on the wall of the restaurant in market and castro. I am reminded the 20,000 of my friends and neighbors were killed by this disease. By 1996 researchers came up with a mixture able to suppress the virus that became known as the aids cocktail. It smells great. Leave it to the all american holiday, nothing says fourth of july like burgers and hotdogs. You are putting a korean spin on the hotdogs and making your burgers and little taste of italy. I love a classic burger and a classic hot dog. Sometimes you just have to break the rules. When ketchup and mustard just wont do you have to have a little fun. What we have is a grilled hot dog with the roger, pickles, carrots, and pickled bell peppers. When you go to eat korean food they always have interesting Little Things and that is one of those things. It is like a korean sauerkraut. We just marinated the peppers and the carrots to make them more pickled the balance out the richness of the beef hot dogs and the sirota. When picking out a good dog does it matter . Everyone has the kind they like. For years i loved hebrew national. It is just what i grew up with. With. Pick your favorite one. I think that you should always try to go for highquality. Look at the finished product. Without further ado we have pesto. I never thought to put pesto on a burger. We wanted to do something fun and interesting. We have a high quality ground beef. I have this with salt and pepper. The trick with beef or hamburgers in general is dont mess around with them on the grill. Just let them cook. We are turning these over. Are you a double flipper . One and done. I have been doing it wrong. All that does is drain some of their juice. That is where all the flavor is. Exactly. You want to use a couple of tricks to figure out if it is done or not. You are looking at it. We have a nice brown color. You are noticing that the patties are starting to shrink and then you can touch them. These are a little soft. You want them to have a little more resistance. Meanwhile, i am just going to reach over and grab a hot dog. Just for added deliciousness we threw it on the grill. It does not take long. How about the pesto . We made it ourselves. It is just fresh basil leaves. You wash and dry it, grade up a little bit of garlic, you can do walnuts or almonds and a lot of olive oil. A little salt and pepper and that is it. You have some finished burgers here. While i am letting those go im just going to get you ready to taste. This is a process and i need to make sure you get to taste them. This will keep you busy. It is going to be spicy. Isnt it yummy . And that sauce has a little kick. It is really spicy. Here is the bond. With the hot dog you have the pickled carrots and the sirota. I am just going to use my fingers. It is easier. For the burger these might be a little bit on the rare side. I just want to show you. You can put on the fresh mozzarella. You can do this on the grill if you want but you dont have to. The heat from the burger is really going to help you out. Maybe one or two slices of tomato. I thought that i had one on the grill. There you go. How fun is that . The fourth of july is thursday. Get the grill ready. Try that burger out. Is it pretty good . It is delicious. Let me take a bite before we toss it back. That is good. That should be a staple. Well done. The recipe for all of those goodies is on our web links section at kutv. Com.
