So right now the current temperatures. 58 in concord this morning. 55 in oakland. And 52 degrees in fremont. 57 degrees right now in san jose. Dealing with upper 40s in the north bay. Santa rosa is at 49. And 52 degrees in San Francisco. So this is a 24hour temperature change. So, a little different than what we saw this time yesterday. Thats because our marine layer has developed a bit. So we are going to see cooler temperatures but things will warm up a little bit warmer than what we saw yesterday. So the highs expected today, 82 in santa rosa. 66 in San Francisco. And 71 in oakland. 8 in livermore and 80 degrees your high in san jose. Guys. Happening now pride weekend is well underway in San Francisco. And an iconic symbol of the weekend celebration is being installed. Volunteers are assembling the famous pink try ainge oleel on twin peaks. Alyssa herrington is there live with more on the history of the tradition. It looks foggy and windy but heme look like they are ready to go. Reporter volunteers are hard at work putting on the gloves and grabbing the harmers and they will install 175 bright pink tarps that will create the Pink Triangle that overlooks San Francisco. This Pink Triangle is so big it can be seen for 20 miles. It covers one acre. Pink triangle is visible from the Market Street. And is a focal point every year during the parade overlook the festivities. Volunteers will nail down thetarps with steel pikes and once the triangle is installed, theres going to be a ceremony where the mayor will get give a keynote speech. It was twoness a very dark symbol of the gay community. Nazis use the Pink Triangle badge to identify and hers cute gays during the holocaust. Some are wearing the triangles on their tshirt to show solidarity for those forced to wear them in the concentration camps. Today its a symbol of pride. Organizers say it represents survival, cunninger and liberation. It should serve as a reminder of what can happen when homosexual is criminalized. This is the 24th year of the Pink Triangle event in San Francisco. Its been happening. Yesterday set the outline for the triangle, today they install the pink tarps and tomorrow after the parade they will node von you will tiers to help take it down. That happens an hour after the parade ends. In say anyone is welcomed to help out. Its foggy out here so you may not be able to see it until the fog burns off. The Transgender Community held the 16th annual march a tradition on the friday of pride weekend. It kicked off at the park the theme, we need housing. The community are facing the highest rates of discrimination, marginallation and imbalance. Reporter the women tell mow they both attempted suicide in the past. Disspare at being shunned by familiance others. They say the pride celebration gives them hope. What makes San Francisco remarkable is the light that shines that allows resources to provide for all of us that are struggling to get to our journey easier. The manager expects tens of thousands of people to gather here saturday and sunday making this the busiest weekend of the year. This place used to be much more than a bar but a Community Place to speak and feel comfortable and be supported. So i think thats has carried on through the event and people love the bars when they are here all weekend. The main stage sits up the steps of city hall and will feature live musical acts and speakers. Its my second time here in San Francisco. But its my first time here for pride. The fire was reported just after 6 00 at a apartment complex for seniors on buchanan road. Firefighters saw flaps coming out of the windows and the backside of the complex. There was an explosion due to an oxygen tank and we requested a second alarm response. Authorities say one person was also displaced and getting help from the red cross. People in the complex heard a loud explosion but investigators say it came from a burning oxygen tank. The San Francisco board of supervisors is considering taking action on labor stand ortdz for contract workers and the supervisors held a hearing about the Employment Status of workers for uber and lyft and insta cart and other companies. Supervisors and state lawmakers are proposing ways of cementing that ruling in to law. I am told thats the sound of the Pink Triangle talking. So with me is one of the organizers of the event. Talk about the significance of the Pink Triangle up here. Part of celebrating any pride weekend is remembering where we have been. It was use by nazis to label the homosexuals. It was one of the couldored symbols for the undesirable. Yellow for jaous and et cetera. It was part of a divide and concur campaign and its used in some parts of the world today. Reporter what type of how would you say the Pink Trianglesymbol has changed. The Amnesty Program allows anyone to turn in illegalfireworks so they can safely be disposed of no questions asked. This year could be more damaging than in years past because our dry, dry weather lately and early fire season. Folks can drop off illegal fireworks at several staysings today. Station 59 in Discovery Bay will accept them from 9 00 until noontime. Station 53 on ohare avenue in oakley will take them from 1 to 4 00. Oakland police established a hotline for folks to report on any people legally selling or setting off fireworks this week on. There troubling allegations about a hospital operated by the city of San Francisco. Investigators say about 2 dozen Adult Patients with disabilities were abused by some medical staff. Laguna honda hospital is the same one that treats some family members of the board of supervisors. Henry lee tells us the claims led to the resignation of the hospitals ceo. Reporter at a News Conference at city hall, San Francisco mayor london breed said 23 patients were abused and mistreated by workers at laguna honda hospital. There was a very unfortunate situation that has occurred. Reporter we are here to report something difficult. Disturb and disappointmenting to the people of San Francisco. Reporter for the past three years official say 6 employees abused patients as the city run hospital. Laguna honda serves adults with disabilities and eld kerl including those with dementia. Abuse ran the gamut. Sexualized conversations with residents. Verbal and physical abuse, neglect, privacy violations, medication errors. Reporter the Health Department says some of the workers recorded the abuse and shared it in text. Patients were also improperly drugged. The administration of nonprescribed substances to some residents in an attempt to pacify them. Reporter the mayor says this is especially distressing to her. Her grandmother suffered from i did mense ha and stayed at the hospital for years until her death. We are better than this. We are committed to restoring the trust of the families and the patients of laguna honda. Reporter board of supervisors president has had family members stay at the hospital. Reporter Officials Say the patients were abused in newer sections of the hospital in north 1 and north 2. The ages varied. This is all about keeping our patients safe. The cops with go in there routinely when they wanted to butt heads and, you know, scare people. Reporter in 1966, police came to the cafeteria to arrest men for impersonating women. Reporter soon after, harvey milk made San Francisco home later become the states first openly gay elected official on the citys board of supervisors n1978,way assassinated at city hall along with San Francisco mayor george mass connie by former supervisor dan white. I thought, this is it. It is over for mow and for my community. Reporter white received a conviction of manslaughter not murder lead to the white white night riot. It was a outcry and outpouring of grief of apinger and of rage. Reporter rebecca with the San Francisco lgbt center calls it another Pivotal Point in activism. When dan white received a very light prison sentence, i think there was a deep sense of betrayal and another sense of this is another time that the courts have failed us. Reporter heart break led to strengths over the decades. Gay community recognized the power in public protests and community organizing. And i think even in place like San Francisco, where we think that we have really achieved so much, theres still so much work to be done. Right now, 50 of the homeless of young people in the streets are lgbtq. Thats not okay. You know, so many trans women of color are getting murdered here in the city and across the country. Thats not okay. What do we want . Reporter the citys history of activism lead the theme for the 49th annual pridecelebrations. Generation of resistance. As young people are growing up in the culture of greateracceptance sometimes they are not as aware of everyone that came before them. Right now, because of that marine layer, that has redeveloped, you are seeing slightly cooler temperatures in some spots than we saw this time yesterday. And San Francisco was 91. And then we dropped down pretty significantly on june 26th. So our temperatures have been very extreme in june. Things will kind of even out now within the next couple days. So our temperatures today, really just going to warm up just a bit compared to yesterday. These are the temperatures highs from yesterday. These are the highs we expect today. Agreed to hold off on imposing another 350 billion worth of tariffs on chinese imports. And in exchange china agreed to buy more American Farm products. The u. S. And china has levied billions worth of tariffs on each others products. Talks to resolve the trade issues have been stalled since may. We wont be adding an additional, you know, tremendous amount, what we have i guess 350 billion dollars left which could be taxed or tariffed. And we are not doing that. We are going to work with china on where we left off to see if we can make a deal. President trump will allow American Tech Companies to sell equipment to the Chinese Company huawei. The Trump Administration and members of congress have accused huawei of being a National Security threat. President trump is on the Korean Peninsula where he may meet with kim jong un. The president flow from osaka toseoul last night to meet with the south korean president. He says elvis it the demilitaryized zone separating north and south korea and invited kim toshake hands and say hello. North korea has responded by calling the offer a very interesting suggestion. Two people recovering from smoke inhalation following a house fire in antioch. That fire first reported after 6 00 last night at an apartment complex for seniors. Located on buchanan road. Firefighters arrived to see flames coming out of windows on the backside of the complex. Two injured people had to be taken to the hospital for treatment. Investigators say the fire started in the downstairs unit and spread quickly upstairs. There was an explosion due to an oxygen tank and at that. The administration of nonprescribed substances to some residents in an attempt to pacify them. Reporter mayor breed says this is especially distressing. I am coming to you from a very foggy twin peaks. Now, the volunteers instaled the Pink Triangle in record time. So whats happening now is they are preparing for a ceremony that will happen an hour from now. Theres a band up here playing music. And everybody is taking pictures. And getting ready for when mayor breed will be here to deliver a keynote speak i want to show you video from earlier this morning. People were out here with their hammers. They installed 175 bright pink tarps to create this Pink Triangle that overlooks San Francisco every year. The perching triangle is so big it can be seen for 20 miles. It covers one acre. It is especially visible from San Francisco Market Street and is a focal point during the pied parade. This morning volunteers nailed down the tars and they say its impossible to ignore and its a special event to be part of. The cool thing about this for me is that when the fog burns off, and you drive down the hill, and you look up, and you see what you did, this is such an iconic symbol. And it really truly gives you a sense of pride. Today it has a much more positive meaning. Its been usurped as symbol of pride before it was a symbol of tragedy.
