It began around noon along alamo square, a suspected car burglar smashed the windows of a toyota and installed some luggage. The car was a rental belonging to some visitors from florida. My husband called me and said he saw someone smashed the windows and also he saw a policeman get hit. Reporter a undercover policeman on a bicycle working on a burglary operation saw what happened and attempted to stop the suspect after smashing the window. He attempted to detain one of the suspects and a vehicle, that was near the area, rammed the officer and in doing so also ran over one of the suspects. That car, a lack infinity, sped away and struck another car in the intersection. We saw the black infinity hit a previous at the intersection, after hitting the car, the infinity stopped and the passenger and driver ran in 2 different directions. I believe the car rolled down and hit a few more cars. Reporter the 2 men ran from the Carpet Police arrested the driver of the car and who witnesses described as the passenger. The man who was struck by the car was also arrested and taken to the hospital, his condition is unknown. Glories have been rampant in San Francisco and alamo square has been a hotspot. You can see the sheriffs deputies, chp and Hayward Police searching for a man that took the almost took the life of a deputy. It is miraculous that he was not killed. Reporter is happened after 9 30 am thursday morning after the deputy attempted to pull him over for a speeding violation. At first, the suspect did not comply and then the motorcycle was pinned to the suv after he put the vehicle in reverse. He was rammed at considerable speed and dragged backwards. He was able to get off and then the suspect took a second check attempt at his life. Reporter using a vehicle he took aim at the officer. In looking at that car we do not see signs or evidence that he was severely wounded, it is likely he may have ducked down past the dashboard. Reporter he ditched the vehicle and ran away on foot a few blocks later. After eighth few hours searching and using a helicopter, Law Enforcement called off the search. It appears he got out of our containment zone or was able to hide. Reporter the deputy had injuries to his arm and hand, the description of the suspect is vague. We do know there will be officers in plain clothes and uniform checking to see if the suspect is still here. They do not believe he is in the area but they dont want to take chances. What that will be will be a suspension for a couple of days or a week. They want to send messages to the Police Officers, the other Police Officers, saying do not pull this. Here is where i have a problem, it is different in San Francisco, i go to a lot of different quartz around california, in most counties, the District Attorney is the muscle in those courtrooms. Not in San Francisco, it is the public defenders that run those courtrooms. That it has always bothered me even though i am a defense attorney, that is because the San FranciscoDistrict Attorneys office charges cases like this. To my mind they do not have experienced people charging cases. When i read the facts of this case, when i saw what the jury did, number 1, why did you file it . Why didnt you go to the Police Department and say we are not going to file it, there is a 2 minute here and we cannot trust what is going on here and a jury will not like that. Even if you think they should have filed it, they will put this guy in prison . Why a felony . They shouldnt charge a felony unless they are prison eligible that means you really believe they should go to prison. This was a misdemeanor at best, the jury did the right thing, in this case. They did not convict him in the felony. Im sure this will have repercussions throughout the department, once the camera is on it should stay on.
