Fire fighting is a very dangerous profession. We have one to two fires a day and when you respond together and you put your lives on the line, you do have to surround yourself with experts. And for us the expert in gas and electric is pg e. We run about 2,500 2,800 fire calls a year and on almost every one of those calls pg e is responding to that call as well. And so when we show up to a fire and pg e shows up with us it makes a tremendous team during a moment of crisis. I rely on them, the firefighters in this department rely on them, and so we have to practice safety everyday. Utilizing pg es talent and expertise in that area trains our firefighters on the gas or electric aspect of a fire and when we have an emergency situation we are going to be much more skilled and prepared to mitigate that emergency for all concerned. The things we do every single day that puts ourselves in harms way, and to have a partner that is so skilled at what they do is indispensable, and i couldnt ask for a better partner. We want you to take a look outside or were looking outside. These are live pictures of the moon and this is amazing. Its happening in the sky as we speak. Yes, it is called the super blue blood moon, and joining us now, astronomer, High School Physics teacher at arch bishop high school, tony dunn. You are friend the that sal has been speaking of, correct . Thats correct. Good morning, tony. Glad youre up. Good morning. Sal and i were classmates at arch Bishop School way back in the day. At redon high school. Tell us why this is so significant and unusual for us to see this happening at once . Well, part of it has nothing to do with science. It has to do with our calendar, so we get a full moon every 29 days, but our calendars are our months are 30, 31 days so every now and then theres a month thats got two full moons and in fact theyll be a month without no moon. February will be one where there will not be a full moon. March, two full moons again. So thats two blue moons in a row or two within three months. The other part, the super moon, that happens about every year and a half. The moons orbit around the earth is not perfectly round. Its an oval or an eclipse and the earth is closer to the moon than others and when it coincides with the earth, we call it a super moon. People think this is blood red when the moon goes into the earths shatter. Its almost total as im looking out my window, so those two things combining at the same time is rare. But none of them on their own are rare. Some of the video in the pictures, it doesnt look red, but youre saying when the total eclipse happens is more when were going to see that reddish color and especially if people take pictures of it. Yes, correct. And thats just some peoples opinion, thats the color it looks. Its that color because when the moon shadow is on earth, if you were standing sorry, the other way around, if the earths shadow is on the moon, youre going to see this red ring around the moon some of the light bleeds through our atmosphere. Yes, fascinating to watch this live as it happens. While we have you, how long will this last . There may be someone who just waking up getting the cob webs out and hopefully they wont miss it. How long might this last . The total phase is about to begin right now, and i dont know exactly, but they generally last 45 to 60 minutes, the total phase, and then theyll get to watch the partial phase. The moon coming out of the earths shadow probably until sunrise. All right. Tony dunn, thank you for joining us. Teacher physics teacher at arch redon high school. But more importantly hes a friend of sals. Isnt everyone. Thank you for getting up and walking us through whats happening in the sky with the moon. Youre welcome. Yeah. All right, tony, have a great day. Speaking of sal. Sal, your friend did good just like you do. Yes, hes definitely a knowledgeable person. Its funny though.
