It is 5 02, back to the desk. San jose police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened about 8 45 last night on charlotte drive. Police found one man dead after responding to reports of shots fired. Right now, it sun clear what led up to the shooting and so far, police have not made any arrests in this case. San Francisco Police have now arrested a man for driving his van on to a busy Castro District sidewalk. Originally, police thought the driver accidently jumped the curb near the theater saturday afternoon. Now rodden faced charges of aggravated assault, hit and run and driving under the influence. He hit several parking meters and trees and backed into a deli. No one was hurt. Rodder told police he was having problems with the vans brakes. Millions of gallons of sewage spilled into monter ray beach. About 4. 4 million gallons of waste water leaked into the bay. The beaches will reopen once samples are safe for contact. A uc Berkeley Student who was detained by immigration officials for nearly three weeks is back in the bay area this morning. It is good to be back. Im a little nervous but excited to continue my education. Luis mora is a junior who came to this country when he was 11 years old from colombia. He and his girlfriend took a wrong turn and he ended up at an immigration checkpoint where he was held for over staying his visa. After a campaign, he was allowed to return to the bay area which he considers his home. He says this incident shows how broken the immigration system is. We need a fix, right now. Take action. There are so many People Like Us being criminalized when he are just trying to make this country better. Federal immigrations said the case will be transferred to ice enforcement offices in the area where he resides. His removal proceedings remain ongoing. An immigration judge has to make the final decision on his deportation hearing which will be a year from now. In the meantime, mora says this experience has made him consider starting a career as an immigration attorney or an immigration judge. The Golden Gate Bridge saw a drop in suicides in 2017. Patrol teams intervened with a Record Number of people last year. The marin independent journal reports that there were 225 interventions and 33 confirmed suicides in 2017 but that is down from 39 deaths in 2016. Bridge Board Members are crediting increased patrols and intervention training for the lower numbers. This comes as a suicide net is being installed on the Golden Gate Bridge, the goal is to have that barrier completed by 2021. We are now in day three of a Government Shutdown. And when open air monuments and memorials were shut off during the obama era shutdown, most will remain open this time. They are not getting paid but they will still work. In terms of what you see, it will not be as dramatic as in 2013. At 9 00 this morning, our time, the senate will vote on a plan to end the Government Shutdown. A Bipartisan Group of 22 senators met late into the night last night. Mitch mcconnell is saying that if democrats agree to a shortterm funding bill, he will make sure that immigration reform, including protection for Daca Recipients would be debated by the next dead line of february 8. Democrats are meeting to discuss that proposal ahead of the vote. Democratic friends, dont over play your hands, Government Shutdown is not a good way to get an out come, we learned that as republicans. The remains of Army Private First class james leonard, jr. Have finally returned to the bay area after nearly 70 years. In 1950, when he was 22, he joined the army and was sent to fight in the korean war. He died just five days later. His remains were never found until last year when a Road Construction crew found some teeth and a canteen. A military lab in hawaii positively identified leonard and he was brought home yesterday. Only one cousin who remembers him as a teenager is still alive. James heart says the family has always wondered if this day would ever come. After that many years, they finally found him. They never gave up hope, we appreciate that. Leonards only sister died as a child and his parents died years ago but his cousin says they are proud of his service and are glad to have him home. We will be buried with full military honors at Holy Cross Cemetery tomorrow. Reporter we have confirmation from san had za police that there is an individual barricade inside the hotel. This has been going on since at least 6 00 yesterday evening. We have been able to get through to the hotel staff when we called but they could not confirm what the situation is like inside. Outside of the windom garden hotel, there are two in san jose, but this is the one off of silicone valley boulevard. We see some firetrucks and ambulances. San jose police tell us we are experiencing an individual who has barricaded themselves inside the hotel. We do not know more than that. However, one guest did write on twitter that she was evacuated to the lobby around 7 p. M. Yesterday and she heard it was a possible hostage situation. That is what we know at this time. We have several San Jose Police cars out here and we also see the Sheriffs Office from santa clar county, there could be a swat presence here as well. In San Francisco, 65,000 people marched frup civic center to justin hurmen plaza on saturday. The crowds were slightly smaller than last years event when an estimated 100,000 people came forward. This year, there was more momentum on the me too movement and pushing women to register to vote and run for political office. The dream is still far from being reached. I was able to walk into the lobby and then once i was in there, i saw about five men who said they were staying on the second floor and all of them had been evacuated at about 7 00 yesterday evening. They were told it was a possible hostage situation out here. The confirmation from San Jose Police is that there is an individual who has barricaded themselves inside the hotel at about 6 00 yesterday evening. We have San Jose Police cars out here and
