Make more of whats yours. Both chambers of congress are holding every other saturday session today. Joining us is east bay congresswoman barbara lee with more on the shutdown and the mood this morning and washington. Good morning. Good morning. How are you . We are here. We are fighting and will stay here biting and working until we can get the republicans to recognize the damage they are doing by shutting down the government. We heard nancy pelosi saying you guys could get this done in an hour and the buck stops here. Could you . Do you think something can get done or do you need to get the republicans to follow suit. I know we can get things done very quickly. When you look at the issues and the priorities. Community health centers. Disaster relief. Addressing the Opioid Crisis. And of course the dreamers. And making sure that they are not deported in the daca dream act that we proposed as part of this overall deal. What has happened is donald trump on his one Year Anniversary has gotten what he wanted. He said several months ago he wanted a shutdown and this is what he has. Its very tragic because this wreaks havoc in the lives of people. The bottom line is this is hurting people and its hurting our government. This is no way to run a country. Absolutely it is hurting people. Both sides keep pointing the finger and pointing blame but whats the message to the public . The public other one suffering because of this. The message is remember the republicans control the house, senate and white house and this is a trump shut them. Secondly, democrats have been working diligently to try to make sure we did not get to this point. There have been five continuing resolutions. This is not the way you run a government. And we have been attempting to negotiate on all these issues. Health care for children, relief for the dreamers, kids should not be a bargaining chip in this. What i believe is happening is the republicans just dont want to address domestic spending. They have gotten their tax cuts for the very wealthy donors, the millionaires and billionaires and they want to make sure that our domestic spending is reduced and they are sent to the public, go for it on your own. They are trying to dismantle, in my opinion, the domestic spending side of our government. What needs to be done in the next 48 hours so we dont wake up on monday morning with a Government Shutdown . What can be done today and tomorrow . And the next 48 hours, today and tomorrow, the republicans need to agree that they will negotiate in good faith and that this president will negotiate in good faith. The public knows there have been several proposals that the president was presented that he agreed to and then backed off of. So we need to have some good faith by all sides that the issues that are still pending in terms of our children, funding their healthcare, ensuring disaster relief, ensuring that we address the Opioid Crisis and of course the daca fix, that these are at least on the table to negotiate in good faith because this is something the republicans still wont address. They are following donald trump in terms of his agenda, wanting a Government Shutdown and this is really disgraceful. Too many lives are being disrupted. Congresswoman barbara lee, we wish you luck and we appreciate you joining us this morning. Thank you. She has a busy weekend ahead and hopefully the parties can find an even keel at work this thing out. Monday will be a tough day for a lot of people. As we expand the view here is the next system coming on board. A cloud producer for us tomorrow and eventually we are talking about raindrops. It looks like we are looking to the east and you can maybe pick out a trace of snow in the sierra. Its a little hazy out there. You could see out toward the mountains. Today we have clear skies. Cold numbers this morning. 4050 degrees. Mostly sunny skies this afternoon. 5358. Here are the forecast highs later today. Well talk more about sunday rain chances and more rain clouds showing up in the five day. We begin with an update on the Government Shutdown. A few minutes ago we spoke to oakland congresswoman barbara lee about the situation on capitol hill. The senate is now back in session to try to hammer out a deal. Lawmakers do not expect anything violent or early next week. This means the shutdown will likely last through the weekend and into monday. Democrats and republicans are blaming each other for the shot down and the main sticking points are the length of the stopgap bill and protection for daca recipients. House Speaker Paul Ryan addressed the chamber moments ago. And all of this, all of this is completely unnecessary. But Senate Democrats believe none of it is too high a price to pay for appeasing the political base. It may be a few days before we see the full ramifications of a shutdown. For now, most federal parks and monuments will stay open through the weekend. Campgrounds and concessions are expected to close. This could affect the area parks however, alcatraz boat tours will continue as scheduled. That is good news for tourists who had repurchased tickets. We want to let you know that furloughs will continue as we move forward but federal employees such as National Security and Law Enforcement will be furloughed but post offices are open and mail will be delivered.
