Two children and an adult were seriously injured in a crash in antioch this afternoon. It happened just before 1 00 on somersville road near highway 4. The Contra Costa CountySheriffs Department says a deputy was tailing a stolen white truck. Deputies say it appears that once the driver realized this, he changed direction, got off the highway and barreled right through an intersection running a red light and slamming into a gray truck. Ktvus alyana gomez just arrived on the scene and is live now with more on what happened. Alyana. Reporter good evening, frank. We are going to set the scene for you here in antioch. Just behind me youll see here crime scene investigators are working. You will see some of the crime scene markers and evidence markers on the ground there as they work to continue this investigation now into the fifth hour after this happened just shortly before 1 00. You can also see the white pickup truck, which is what were told the suspect was driving in. And then off here a little bit away you will see the silver f 150, as well. We believe that is the vehicle that the family was riding in, with a car seat on the ground. A terrible crash, very, very badly damaged silver pickup. We are told its what the family was driving in when they were hit by that white pickup truck. A 23yearold pittsburg man was driving a stolen f250 and was spotted by a Contra Costa County sheriffs deputy. The deputy followed the suspect without activating his lights until the suspect took the exit at a high rate of speed and they activate their lights and the police pursued them. But it ended very quickly when deputies say moments later that driver ran a red light and hit a f150 pickup. Three people were injured in the truck, including two children now in Critical Condition. We are still waiting for Police Information on the injuries. Earlier a witness described what she saw. I didnt hear the sirens, just when they were coming down the freeway, it looked like just the lights were on. You didnt hear screeching or anything. All you heard was an atomic boom and obviously, the white truck hit the gray truck and my husband was on our motorhome and he said the whole gray truck just went up on its side and it exploded all over the place with debris. Reporter the driver of the white pickup truck and the three victims in the silver pickup truck were all injured and transported to a hospital. No word yet on their conditions at this point. We are working to get updates for you. The exit off highway 4 is shut down at somersville. We noticed on our way into the scene we saw traffic backups in some of the residential areas surrounding the somersville towne centre and auto shop area. A lot of cars backed up on residential roads to make it to their destinations cutting through away from this part of antioch. Back to you. Thank you. I just wanted to doublecheck here, the condition of the two kids, do we know that . I thought i heard you say they were in Critical Condition . Reporter we initially heard that the family may have been in Critical Condition. But the Sheriffs Office has not confirmed their conditions at this time. We are working to get more information. Thank you. We are learning more about an Alameda County sheriffs deputy who was arrested for the alleged mistreatment of an inmate. Joseph bailey is facing charges for allegedly sanctioning the beating of a inmate by five to six other inmates. Ktvus Cristina Rendon joins us now live with the Santa Rosa County jail in dublin with more. Reporter Deputy Joseph bailey self surrendered to police in hayward this morning. We understand that he bailed out shortly after he was booked. But he is now facing charges tonight for his alleged mistreatment of an inmate that resulted in that inmate getting beaten after the two had an argument. There was some type of interaction that took place between him and the inmate that was attacked. And that maybe as retaliation for retribution, he sanctioned this assault to occur. Reporter Sergeant Ray Kelly with the Alameda CountySheriffs Office says the alleged incident happened last october in a dormitory area. Fellow officers and Staff Members took their concerns to a supervisor alleging that Deputy Joseph bailey facilitated and allowed a small group of inmates to physically assault another inmate in minimum security. Bailey and the inmate allegedly got into an argument before the beating. Bailey is accused of knowingly placing that inmate in an area where he was prone to assault by a group of inmates. The inmate was beat up and hospitalized but is okay. Investigators interviewed more than two dozen people including other inmates, inmates that have since been released after the beating, and Sheriffs Office employees. Bailey was put on administrative leave last year and the d. A. s office charged him today. The 28yearold deputy lives in tracy and has been with the Sheriffs Office since january 2015. He is charged with felonious assault likely to cause Great Bodily Injury and assault under the color of authority. We are not afraid to deal with these issues. When we see someone within our own organization doing wrong well hold them accountable. Reporter our calls to baileys attorneys are unreturned. I did reach out to his family. I spoke with his exwife. She says she has no knowledge of this alleged incident. But she did notice that after he started working here at the jail, his character and his demeanor changed. Frank, julie . Were there any security cameras in that part of the jail in the dorm area that could have given a clearer picture of what happened . Reporter at this point, were not sure about the security cameras in the area. We just know extensive interviews were conducted with the inmates as well as the employees who caught wind of what had happened and they are the ones that brought their concerns to a supervisor and then the sheriff himself launched this criminal investigation. Thank you, cristina. We have an update on a chp who was badly hurt in a Chain Reaction crash in concord this week. Thats officer Martin Lendway on the gurney giving the hang loose sign. Looks like its going to be beautiful lets go over to meteorologist mark tamayo in for bill tonight. Its a gray day. A little rain is heading our way. There is some rain coming. Today it was gloomy with haze and fog. Well mix out things the haze heading into the thursday forecast. We have a system coming on board for tomorrow and a much cooler weather pattern, as well. So heres our thinking with the timeline. If you are thinking the early portion of the commute that should not be too bad at 6 a. M. Just a chance of a shower and you will notice we are not bringing this into the heavy rains but still light to moderate rainfall as we head into the afternoon hours for your thursday. We are just talking about that haze and its still showing up in our live camera looking toward the bay here from San Francisco. You can barely pick out the bay bridge here. So still lingering fog out there. The visibility not so great. Things will be changing though tomorrow. Heres the satellite showing you the clouds moving into Northern California the green is up to our north at the north coast but that will be changing especially by mid to late morning on your thursday. Current temperatures are in the 50s, still a few 60s towards san jose. 64. And concord in the upper 50s, 57 degrees. So in San Francisco, 7 00, the chance of some rain tomorrow morning but then we are going to bump up the chances into the afternoon hours by 1 00. And then by 3 00 as well, rainfall likely and well hold on to some scattered showers with the possibility of some thunderstorms as we head into your friday forecast. So heres the overall weather pattern. We are watching this cool weather pattern here in the pacific reminds us of winter and, of course, it is still winter so a dropoff in temperatures in your thursday forecast that will carry over to the weekend and this is the developing headline and also a snow producer finally a cold system to drop the snow levels in the sierra. Winter storm warning in place even at lake level could be talking about 4 to 8 inches and up above 7,000 feet a few spots could be approaching 2 feet so this will be a productive system in the mountains. Here we are tomorrow morning, dry in the south bay chance of some scattered showers up in the north bay and still 12 00, you will notice the things start to materialize into the afternoon hours by 4 00. And then well take this into your friday. Some scattered showers quickly moving across portions of the bay area. This would be the highest chance of picking up some isolated thunderstorms as well in your friday forecast. Here we go tomorrow though. We are cooling things off lots of 50s out there. Warmest locations approaching 60 degrees. We are tracking another system into the weekend. Now, saturday they can say its going to be dry. Sunday we have to bring in a chance of rain showers by sunday afternoon. But then the main event in terms of heavy rainfall that could be moving in by sunday evening so the chance sunday afternoon better bet sunday night into monday. And i think with this system coming on board tomorrow, a lot of happy people waiting for snow in the sierra. They have been trying to keep the slopes covered with the manmade snow. But this will be the real deal. They have been waiting a while. Its about time. Thank you. The Winter Olympics are now just three weeks away.
