Typically during the rainy season when we have more rain. Reporter last summer ktvu followed a California Public records act request seeking information about the closures over the last 12 months. The Park District responded blaming the closures on natural algae blooms, nothing about sewage. The primary source of nutrients feeding the algae is from the bottom sediments of the lake. Thats resulted in many years from all reservoirs built in the 20s and weve had a lot of sentiments run into the lake. Reporter that sediment layer occupies 1015 feet of the lakes average 1030 foot depth and the district is considering dredging it out to prevent so many algae blooms. But with respect to sewage spills the district says when it has evidence of a spill it immediately closes the leak and puts up Water Quality warning signs prohibiting fishing, swimming and other contact with lake water until the testing gives the all clear. Sewage adds additional nutrients into the system. Nitrogen. Phosphorus. I think algae can be done that. Once it gets into the leak theres nothing you can do to clean it up. The search is on for a man who stole a box truck, dropping at the wrong way on a freeway to escape the Highway Patrol. The truck driver was making a delivery in San Francisco. When he came back, the truck was gone. His boss, the owner, happened to be on 101 in south San Francisco and saw the truck heading south on the freeway. He called chp at officers followed the truck as it headed east on the westbound section of 237 in sunnyvale until he crashed near the sunnyvale golf course. These people, they dont thing.
