Now lets go back to the desk. Thank you, sal. This morning we are learning more about a horrific crash that seriously injured a chp officer and involved multiple cars in concord. Ktvus alex savidge joins us now along highway 4 about more on the crash and the arrest that was made. Alex. Reporter yeah. Pam, good morning to you. A woman behind bars in connection with the crash. Were learning that a pickup truck actually landed on top of this chp officer. Incredibly though he is expected to survive. The chainreaction crash happened just after 6 00 last night along this stretch of eastbound highway 4 near port chicago highway. This officer was on the side of the freeway in the area, off of his bike, helping two drivers who had been involved in a minor accident. Thats when an suv veered off of the road, first crashing into the officers motorcycle and then slamming into the back of a ford f150. The impact launched that ford pickup and it landed on top of the chp officer, crushing him. That officer has been identified as martin lenway. He suffered serious injuried and was rushed to the hospital but is expected to recover. The woman who triggered this crash identified as 52yearold tammy walker. She was behind the wheel of a chevy trail blazer. She was eventually arrested last night on suspicion of felony dui. Authorities also say she is being charged with driving on a suspended license. The dui suspect accused of crashing into and killing a chp officer in hayward is due in court today. Arraignment is scheduled for the 22yearold suspect mohammed alie. He was driving faster than 100 Miles Per Hour when he rear ended a parked chp car with two patrol officers inside. His partner was injured but officer Andrew Camilleri was killed. They were looking for reckless drivers on christmas eve. Ali was under the influence of marijuana and alcohol. He faces charges including Second Degree murder. The time is 7 05. We have developing news from South Carolina. Four Law Enforcement officers were shot early today while responding to a Domestic Violence call. Sheriffs deputies were called to a home in york county early this morning. When they arrived, they say the suspect, a 47yearold man who had assaulted a woman had taken off. Now, at first some of the officers with their search dogs went off looking for the suspect. That suspect shot one of those officers. Immediately with the assistance from other surrounding agencies, too many to mention, we began actively looking for the suspect. Our reverse 911 call was given to the area around, in the neighborhood around at that time. Now, during the search for the suspect, that suspect shot three more officers. They were taken to a hospital. We have no information on their conditions. Eventually, though, that suspect was also shot and was taken into custody. We are getting more information and new video out of Southern California about a couple accused of keeping their 13 children locked up in filthy conditions. They were found malnourished, some chained to their beds. Stephanie stanton from our sister station in los angeles talked to neighbors in the community of perris in Riverside County. It is actually shocking. Reporter a sentiment echoed by many neighbors in the perris subdivision who cant believe what Authorities Say went on behind closed doors. Every time that i walked past their home it is desolate. If you lived close, you knew there was something not right. But nothing like that. Reporter she moved here two and a half years ago and was told that the family had 12 children. You never saw a bike or a skateboard. You never saw that. Reporter the home owned by david turpin seen in a mug shot alongside his 49yearold wife louise. They were arrested on multiple counts of child abuse after they starved and tortured their children. A video camera captured authorities outside of the home. Led there by a 17yearold who reportedly escaped and called 911. Inside they found 12 other siblings, many of them chained to their beds, locked in filth. Why would parents have kids or why would people have kids to treat them like this. Well, a false alarm in japan this morning warned of a north Korean Missile launch. The false alarm was issued but was corrected within minutes. The warning asked people to evacuate inside buildings or underground. Still not clear what caused the false alert. It comes as the worker who was responsible for sending a false missile alert in hawaii has been reassigned. A spokesman for the emergency system confirms that the employee was temporarily moved to a new role and no longer thats access to the warning system. The fcc is investigating how the mistake happened and lawmakers are vowing there will be accountability. Investigators also want to know why it took 38 minutes for that error to be corrected. Crews are still clearing trees and crushed cars, mud and giant boulders from the highway, which turned into a catch basin for all of the debris. Water levels have gone down on highway 101 so crews can use bulldozers now. At least 20 people died in the mudslides. Three people are still reported missing. A brewery in San Luis Obispo county is giving a helping hand to their neighbors to the south in montecito. The slow brewery switched the operations away from beer and are now sending water to the victim of the muted slides mudslides. It already had everything in place to make this work. We are learning a woman has been arrested on suspicion of dui in concord last night that left a chp motor officer injured. Alex savidge joinss live in concord. It sounds like the officer was pinned under one of the cars involved in the crash. Reporter that is our understanding. The chp officer is expected to make a full recovery after having a pickup truck land on top of him during the Chain Reaction crash. It happened just after 6 00 last night along eastbound highway 4 along port chicago highway. This motorcycle officer was on the side of the freeway in this area, off of his bike, helping a couple drivers involved in a minor accident. Thats when an suv veered off of the freeway, first crashed into the officers motorcycle, and then slammed into the back of a ford f150. One of the cars involved in that original accident. The impact launched that ford pickup truck and it landed partially on top of the chp officer who has been identified this morning as martin lenway. He works owed of the chps contra costa office. The officer suffered serious injuries. He was rushed to the hospital. But he is expected to recover. Now, authorities arrested the woman who they say triggered this crash. Tammy walker was taken into custody on suspicion of felony dui, causing great bodily injury. She was charged with driving with a suspended after a previous dui conviction. Officer lenway, an officer with the chps Contra Costa County office, he, again, is in the hospital with very serious injuries. And mike and pam, he is expected to undergo surgery later on today. Thank you, alex. The dui suspect accused of crashing into and killing a chp officer will be in court today. Ali was driving faster than 100 Miles Per Hour when he rear ended a parked chp car with two officers inside. Officer camilleri was killed and his partner was injured. They were parked on the side of 880 looking for reckless drive. Ali was under the influence of marijuana and alcohol and he faces charges of Second Degree murder. We are getting more information and new video out of Riverside County of a couple accused of keeping their 13 children locked up in filthy conditions. They were fouled malnourished. Our sister station is there in the community southeast of los angeles. It is actually shocking. The couple arrested on multiple counts of child abuse after Officials Say they starved and tortured their children. A neighbor Security Camera captured sheriffs deputies outside of the home sunday morning. Authorities led there by a 17 yearold who reportedly escaped and called 911. Inside, Authorities Say they found 12 other siblings, ages two to 29 being held captive. Many of them chained to their beds, living in darkness and filth. When i hear that, i get tearyeyed. The couple is booked on child abuse charges. They are being held on 9 million bail each. Developing news out of South Carolina where four Law Enforcement officers were shot while responding to a Domestic Violence call. Sheriffs deputies were called to the home in york county early this morning. A 47yearold man assaulted and woman and took off. Initially officers with search dogs set off to look for the man. The man then shot one of the officers. Immediately with the assistant from other surrounding agencies, too many to mention, we began actively looking for the suspect. A reverse 911 call was given to the area around and the neighborhood around at that time. During the search for the suspect, that gunman shot three more officers. They were taken to the hospital. No word on their conditions. Eventually the suspect was also shot and taken into custody. A false alarm in japan this morning warned of a north Korean Missile launch. The error was corrected within minutes. The warning asked people to evacuate inside buildings or underground. It is still not clear what may have caused that false alert. Now, this comes of course after the false alert in hawaii. The worker who was responsible for sending a false missile alert in hawaii has been reassigned. A spokesman for the Emergency Management system confirms that the employee was temporarily moved to a new role and no longer has access to the warning system. The fcc is now investigating how the mistake happened. And lawmakers are vowing there will be accountability. Investigators also want to know why it took 38 minutes for that error to be corrected. Police in Orange County have aevent ared the friend of a missing 19yearold College Student whos body was found earlier this week. Blaze was a sophomore at the university of pennsylvania and home for winter break in lake forest. Police say 20yearold Samuel Woodward picked him up from his house on january 2nd and reportedly took him to the park where his body was found. According to an affidavit obtained by the Orange County register, bernstein may have been romantically interested in woodward. Woodward was arrested on suspicion of homicide on thursday after dna evidence linked him to the death. A father was deported back to his home country after living in the United States for 30 years. [crying] 39yearold jorge garcia ugh hads had wife and two children goodbye at the airport yesterday as two immigration agents stood by. He was brought to the United States when he was 10 years old. He has been facing an order of removal since 2009 and previously he was granted stays. But in november, he was ordered to return to mexico. His supporters say he has no criminal record and too old to qualify for the daca program. His wife and children are u. S. Citizens. A federal Government Shutdown could happen by the end of the week. If we can push in a little bit. You can see the approaches to the valley, especially 101. 101 from, lets say, 880 all the way up to Mountain View has just been a terrible commute. Chp motorcycle officer martin lenway is in the hospital with serious injuries after he was hit by a drunk driver. He was investigating a crash in concord last night. Officials say 52yearold tammy walker drove up in a chevy trail blazer and hit the officers motorcycle and then one of the vehicles in the earlier crash, part of that vehicle ended up on top of officer lenway. Walker faces charges including dui and driving with a suspended license. In a separate case, a dui suspect is due in court in 30 minutes from now. The 22yearold is accused of ramming a chp vehicle on christmas eve. One officer was injured while officer camilleri was killed in the collision. Investigators he was driving under the influence and faces charges of Second Degree murder. Japan is apologizing for a false alarm. The error was corrected within five minutes. It is unclear what set off the false alarm that asked residents to evacuate inside buildings o are move underground. The cdc has postponed a Nuclear Disaster preparation session. It was originally set to take place today at the cdc headquarters in atlanta, georgia. Now a session on influenza will be held in its place. This come as the country is in the midst of a particularly active flu season. Experts say the illness is widespread in nearly every state except for hawaii. We are learning more about a 40yearold from the south bay who died from the flu. She was the mother of three, in good health. Even ran marathons. Ann ruben talked with others who want others to know how dangerous the flu can be. Reporter the 40yearold mother of three ran marathons and did yoga so the family never expected the illness to hit her so hard. Shocking for us. We thought she would leave the hospital and come home. Reporter three days after her diagnosis, Katie Oxley Thomas died from influenza b. Doctors believe the flu led to pneumonia that led to septic shock. Her family rushed to bring her children to the hospital for her final moments. We picked them up at 4 30. By the time we got back at 5 00, they were at code red and trying to save her. But she was already gone. She knew we were there. We were supporting there and telling her we love her and that she could fight this and she could get through this and come home. But she couldnt fight it. She just couldnt fight it. Reporter across california, at least 42 people younger than 65 have died this flu season. Five in Santa Clara County. The family isnt sure why katies case was so severe. Theyre not certain she had her flu shot and wondered whether a hand injury from a car accident could have played a role in compromising her immune system. Doctors say that was unlikely. One doctor said i have never seen anything progress like this. Reporter that is why her family is speaking out, both to honor the vibrant joyful woman they lost but also to shed light on the dangers of flu. Most of us get the flu and recover from it. Right. And a handful of people every year dont. And you just dont think it will be your daughter. Huhuh. But you really want to take it serious. Reporter the family has ordered an independent autopsy but wont get the results for several weeks. They have also set up a fund to help the three children that katie leaves behind.
