To the freeway. Apparently what happened was people came up to the loading dock and tried to rob the ups driver. A ups driver was the target of this whole thing. In the process, somebody apparently was pistolwhipped. When they got pistolwhipped, they were taken to the hospital. The police descended along here with guns drawn. Not sure if the people had left or not. Apparently they left. They are currently looking for a white van that has the people who perpetrated this. This is what the police had to say. Reporter at approximately 9 54 am we received a report of an Armed Robbery which occurred in the area of the nordstroms loading dock involving a ups truck and an unidentified on the subject. The subject was subsequently seen getting into a van and leaving the area after the Armed Robbery occurred. At this time we are collecting evidence and processing the scene. Reporter the situation was initially that there were rumors someone had been shot in the nordstrom store. That turned out to not be true. But the police would not have been able to tell that when we first got here. There were no shots fired. Nobody was shot and no one was injured other than the person that was pistolwhipped. Obviously this is a developing story and we will gather information and have our next report on as warranted or by the 4 00 news. Tom vacar, ktvu fox 2 news. Any idea from officers which direction the van went . You can go north or south on 101. Reporter they believe they went north toward the trader joes where you can, after winding, get back on the freeway. When you do get back on the freeway, you would almost be certainly forced to either go right toward the corte madera fairy or go up the 101. You would be going through some lights and through some traffic. So far weve had no reports of any apprehension of these people people but we do know this. There were videocameras on the loading dock. There were employees on the loading dock. About four and they have video of these people. Ready or not these people will be caught is unknown at this point in time but that is the situation. And theres probably a lot of witnesses and loading dock employees. People shopping. How many suspects were involved . One officer said that it may have been as many as two. He described them as African Americans but they apparently were wearing hoodies. That may not necessarily be a terribly reliable description. They never got into the store. The store was closed and locked down. People were evacuated out of an abundance of caution. Nothing went on inside the store. It all happened in the loading dock where the ups was and remains. Thank you for the live report. An hour ago, the chp and Alameda County District Attorneys Office identified the man suspected of driving under the influence when he crashed into a patrol car on Christmas Eve killing officer Andrew Camilleri. Mohammed abraar ali of hayward is being charged with seconddegree murder. Leigh martinez joins us from the Hayward Office with the latest. Reporter hello. The District Attorney charged him in absentia. He still under medical care however he is expected to be released in the next 48 hours. He does not have any prior dui arrests however we do have a mug shot from 2013 in a dismissed robbery case. Chp says Mohammed Abraar Ali was at a party Christmas Eve. The criminal complaint alleges he admitted to consuming alcohol and smoking marijuana before getting behind the wheel of his red cadillac. The complaint says ali told investigators the night of the crash he had threatened his wife and drove from manteca to hayward. He was speeding at over 100 Miles Per Hour when he crashed into the chp patrol car on 880 in hayward. The crash killed officer Andrew Camilleri and injured his partner, officer Jonathan Velasquez. Today the Alameda County District Attorney says she made the decision to charge ali with seconddegree murder. The 1981 California Supreme Court case, people versus watson, gave prosecutors the green light to charge Second Degree murder when a dui crash kills someone. But for a watson murder, the prosecution must prove that the individual was aware of the extreme danger that drinking and driving poses to others and that the person made the choice to disregard the danger. Reporter he faces a total of five felony counts with enhancements. That includes the injuries he caused to officer Jonathan Velasquez who was in the driver seat and survived the crash. Ali has been in the hospital since Christmas Eve. Chp did not describe his injuries. The District Attorney and the assistant chief said hundreds of drivers were arrested and Alameda County over the last year for driving under the influence. Drinking and driving is socially unacceptable. Smoking marijuana and driving is as unacceptable. Reporter ali will eventually be book into santa rita jail. He is expected to be released from the hospital and the next 48 hours. Thank you for that report. Breaking news in the south bay. Evacuations at minetta san jose international. As a package described as a backpack was found in terminal b. Maureen naylor joins us from the airport with the latest. Reporter good afternoon. We have some good news to report. Terminal b just reopened in the last 15 minutes and we were here as hundreds of passenger streamed in. This is the backlog for alaska airlines. We are inside terminal to be. Alaska and southwest are the two airlines impacted. This is the backlog for southwest. All these passengers were held outside the airport. We are not allowed inside while police investigated what was described as a suspicious backpack in terminal b. They do say at this point that they temporarily moved anyone who had gone through security into terminal a and these are the passengers that need to get on their planes. Southwest does say they held all the planes so they do not expect further delays for them. Its quite a hassle for them in terms of trying to get home. As we look at the arrival board, we are not seeing major delays but these people have been waiting about an hour and a half outside. No word yet from the airport in terms of the suspicious backpack. The bomb squad was called. We do also near the planes coming into terminal b were held outside. I spoke to a passenger on a southwest plane. He was sitting on the tarmac in the plane for about an hour and a half on a southwest flight that came from ontario. He said the crew was great giving them drinks and whatnot but they were frustrated. They had to pull into the gate and the pilot that they had a report of something smoking and the plane had to pull away from the gate at that point it impacted. They shut down this is outside terminal b. Alisa shut this down. There was no traffic moving through here and this is where passengers were being held. At this point, and encouraging site as a car so moving through and passengers are starting to arrive. Terminal a was not impacted. Flights were still coming in. At this point after an hour and a half, still no word on what the package was but this is a good site at the airport. The airport is back open. Even though its back open you can see from the lines that this will have an impact at the airport. Its good to hear that southwest and other airlines held the planes but you can imagine the backlog and the time its going to take to get those people processed. Reporter yes. One of the first issues on the agenda will address a Sexual Misconduct scandal. The senate needs to decide how to and allegations against senator tony mendoza. He is ignoring calls to step aside. Republican senator andy vidak is planning to introduce a measure to expel him. State lawmakers are expected to consider legislation that would improve protections for victims who report Sexual Misconduct. Al franken officially resigned today, one month after announcing he would leave the office over Sexual Harassment allegations. He was accused of inappropriate touching by at least eight women. Many of those alleged incident took place before he was elected to office in 2008. He has disputed some of these accusations. The minnesota Lieutenant Governor will take his seat in the senate and is expected to be sworn in tomorrow. The longestserving republican senator in congress announced he will not run for reelection when his term expires this year. Senator orrin hatch of utah made the announcement by video this afternoon. He said he wants to spend more time with his family. Senator hatch played a role in crafting the gop tax plan which was signed into law around christmas. He said in several interviews earlier this year he was planning to run for an eighth term this year but that he would gladly step aside if his friend mitt romney wanted to run for his seat. Mitt romney was the former governor of utah and a 2012 president ial candidate. The suspects and the deathly daily ghost ship fire made an appearance in court this morning. Derrick almena and max harris face Involuntary Manslaughter charges. They were said to enter a plea but that was postponed until next month to give attorneys more time to work on the case. Almenas attorney said there are many holes in the prosecutions case and he said hes confident they will win when the case goes to trial. They dont know how the fire started. How can they say my guy was criminally negligent when they cant even say how it started . So we will always be dependent on the fact that there is superseding causes, potential. Prosecutor say amen and harris were negligent for a number of reasons including all the chemicals stored at the warehouse and a faulty staircase that prevented many victims from getting out of the building. In just over an hour the hillsborough real estate air is accused of arranging her ex boyfriends murder is scheduled to be in court. Tiffany li and kaveh bayat are accused of killing keith green in april 2016. A judge is expected to set a trial date during the pretrial conference. Li had two daughters with green and she was worried he would take custody of the children. In april her family helped her post 35 million bail putting her under house arrest often almost a year in jail. Two arrest have been made in the first homicide of the year. Police say man was arrested for a homicide that took place yesterday morning on crittenden street near 54th avenue. Police say the a woman was found shot to death inside her home. No other details have been released. The killing was the first homicide of the year in oakland. Oakland pd have also arrested another person following a shooting that killed a man last night. That took place on adeline street inner stanford avenue. The names of both the suspect and the victims have not been released. Last year 76 homicides in oakland, down from 87 in 2016. Two and suffered injuries after a delivery truck hit them in a crosswalk in san franciscos richmond district. This happen yesterday afternoon near 21st avenue. Police say the truck driver swerved and hit the pedestrians and then crashed into a car with a family inside. An officer said the people in the car had minor injuries but the pedestrians struck were rushed to the hospital. Police say the interview the driver but have not yet released any information about what may have caused the crash. Lets check in with rosemary. When he tried to turn around, thats when the suspect shot at him once hitting the vehicle. The Community Watch group is offering up to 2500 to anyone with information that will lead to an arrest. Police say the gunman is described as a white or latino man, 30s or 40s and has a receding hairline and was driving a newer silver suv, possibly a mercedes. Pleasant hill police are asking for help in the investigation of an Armed Robbery at a gas station. Police responded to the report of the robbery last night at the mobil gas station food mart on oak park boulevard. These are pictures of the suspect taken by a surveillance camera. They were both wearing black ski masks. Police say the men pulled handguns and stole cash, cigarettes and beef jerky. Anyone with information should contact Pleasant Hill police. A san leandro woman is recovering after being hit by a stray bullet on new years eve. The woman was at a Backyard Party with a dozen friends counting down the new year. No one realized what happened when the was first hit in the back. She was quiet and we understand she had pain. But she did not want to scare us. She did not say anything for an hour. The likelihood is of this bullet came down, struck the ground, ricocheted, and losing its velocity, then have her. Fortunately, she was not struck in the head or struck critically. We got lucky this time. Officer say if you inches to the left or right and the womans injuries would have been critical. Santa clara fire crews are still monitoring hotspots at a cardboard manufacturing plant where a massive fire broke out this morning. As Christien Kafton reports, crews are expected to stay on the scene for several more hours. Reporter the fire of california paperboard has been contained but they are still using water in heavy equipment to make sure this fire does not reignite. The group responded to reports of a fire around 1 am and found an outside storage area engulfed in flames. The plant manager told them that all the employees had been evacuated and were accounted for. Firefighters decided to go defensive, not wanting to risk injuring personnel with 15 foot tall stacks of cardboard burning, sliding and collapsing. Fire crews down thousands of gallons of water on this fire. They are now using heavy equipment to make sure it does not start again. We have a large bulldozer being operated by one of our fire captains. We will separate this and take the product and put it into bins so they can haul it off site. It is a long and tedious process but we are here and we will get through. Reporter the Fire Department said fuel stored in the area and highvoltage lines above complicate their efforts. Around 4 15 am, they were able to get the fire under control. Fire crews are expected to remain on the scene for hours mopping up. The first cruise on scene said about a quarter of the yard was on fire when they first arrive. Its tough to say how this fire started. Investigators say they will review video to determine how this fire started. The Golden Gate Division of the how california Highway Patrol posted a video of a rescue when its facebook page. The chp said responded to a call just before 6 pm to search for three lost hikers in the table rock area of rural napa county. The helicopter crew flying with night vision goggles located the hikers and were they were waving us up and lights at the chopper. Although she admits she got into trouble a lot, she was a scrappy kid who believed certain people in the community saw something in her. All these people throughout my life really pushed me and supported me and so thats why i went to college and thats why i came back and wanted to work in my community. I felt like there were too many young people that grew up the same way that i did that were falling to the cracks. I think the homelessness, the quality of life, like i said, i grew up here and weve had our challenges but what im seeing on the streets today is really on a different level. Sonoma county in the city of santa rosa said they will not send notices to homeowners until the u. S. Army corps of engineers has completed the debris removal process. Officials say homeowners who have received a bill should not pay it and should instead notify authorities. 16 people including seven children have been injured in new york city after seven on fire workout this morning in the bronx. 200 firefighters responded at the fourstory apartment building.
