The big rig still with its flashers on in the lower part of your screen. Theyre working on getting a tow truck to move that out of the way. It was called in as a possible vehicle fire. That is not the case as you can see. But taking some time to get it moved oust the roadway. 24 through lafayette through the caldecott tuned l tunnel, traffic is looking good there. Now the span is free and clear. Smooth sailing for you if thats where your commute takes you. The time is 7 02. Back to the desk. Santa clara fire crews are at a major fire site at matthews near the airport. Crews are waiting for heavy equipment to clear out smoldering debris. Theyre still pouring water on to the burned area. Reporter thats right, gasia. Theyre trying to make sure that the fire doesnt start up again. We have another photographer set up on the other side of the fire to give you a perspective of what is going on right now. They periodically turn the water on and off so they can put an infrared camera over and look for hot spots to direct the water where it is needed. With tons of cardboard on the scene, there is plenty of fuel for the fire to restart. Crews first responded to reports of a fire around 1 00 this morning and found an outside storage area engulfed in flames. All of the employees had been evacuated and had been accounted for. So firefighters went defensive on the fire, not wanting to risk personnel with stacks of cardboard burning, sliding and collapses. Santa clara fire crews dumped an estimated 7,000 gallons of water on this fire to keep it contained. Now it is a matter of keeping it contained. Our big concerns are getting to the scene of the fire with the high pile storage which basically they stack them four high. It equals amounts of 15 feet. As they burn and fall down on each other, it is dense material. It is hard for us to penetrate into the seed of the fire. Were having to at this point in time get ready for the overhaul operations. That will need heavy equipment to do some of that. Reporter Santa Clara Fire Department says the fuel storage and high voltage line complicated the areas. Finally around 4 15, crews got it under control. Now they will remain on scene for hours, mopping up and keeping water on the flames. You might notice that the sun is coming up. That is another important factor. Firefighters are waiting for sunup to get the fire investigators into the area to determine exactly how the fire might have started in the first place. Christien, thank you. Now to the north bay where Santa Rosa Police are looking for a man suspected in a road rage shooting last night. It happened around 8 45 last night. He was tailgating the victim and he was carrying a gun. They turned around and the suspect shot at them, hitting the victims car. A Community Watch group is offering up to 2,500 for information that leads to an arrest. We only have a vague description of the suspect from police. A white or hispanic man in his 30s or 40s with a reseeding airline. He was driving a newer silver suv, possibly a mercedes. A woman in san leandro recovering after a stray bullet hit her at a new years eve party. The 22yearold woman was at a Backyard Party with a dozen friends counting down to the new year. No one even realized what happened when she was first hit. But the bullet went through her parka and hit her in the back. She was quiet. She didnt want to scare us so she didnt say anything. The likelihood is that this bullet came down, struck the ground, ricocheted, losing all of its velocity and hit her. Fortunately she was not hit in the head or critically. We got lucky this time. If she had been standing a foot or two over, the bullet might have hit her directly. The police had to explain to the group that celebrating with gunfire is popular in parts of the country but this lady is lucky to be arrive. Computers crashed at the u. S. Customs and Border Protection agency, knocking out the system. San Francisco International airport was among the affected airports. The computer outage lasted about two hours. But some travelers had to wait even longer than that. They tried to get through passport control. Customs officers had to use backup plans to process all of the passengers. We come here and customs is just backed up. They said by the time we arrived, they said for two hours the system was down. So hundreds of people were just waiting. The kiosks up there are shut down. They hoarded us all to this line. Okay. Were standing in line for on hour. People just got out of their flight. They opened up the lines and let them go into customs before us. San mateo bridge traffic moving nicely as well. There are quite a few cars on the road heading in the westbound direction, towards the peninsula. Taking a look, circling back to the issue we told you about in 880 oakland southbound at haganburger. They have moved it off to the shoulder. Now traffic is moving smoothly beyond it. New this morning and early today, at least 16 people have been injured in an Apartment Building fire in new york city. The building is in the bronx. It has 12 apartments inside. Firefighters broke windows to get people out. Firefighters say the fire appears to have started in a Furniture Store in the first floor of the building. Here at home, two men suffered serious injuries after a delivery truck hit them in a crosswalk in the richmond district. It happened just before 4 00 last yesterday afternoon. Officers say the truck driver swerved and hit the two pedestrians and crashed into a carolina eking a family of five. An officer on scene say the people in the car only had minor injuries. The two people that were hit, the 66yearold man and 79year old man had to be taken to the hospital. Police interviewed the truck driver. Still no word on the cause of the crash. This video was posted on facebook of a rescue. The chp responded to a call just before 6 00 to search for three hikers lost in the table rock area in rural napa county. They immediately found the hikers who were waving their cell phone flights at the helicopter. One had to be taken to an awaiting ambulance. There is a request after the lake tahoe ski resorts after the sale of Recreational Marijuana becomes legal in california. Plus reporter today, chp will announce the charges against the susessed drunk driver that caused the crash that killed a chp officer on Christmas Eve. The map is not registering it yet but there is a report from the chp of a crash involving a box truck and a costco big rig that. Is westbound 580 at first street. So keep an eye on this. And maybe it might lead to more slowdowns in the area as the morning goes on. Taking a look at 880 in oakland. We have been focusing on this for much of the morning. One of the only incidents to tell you about. The see the big rig with the flashers on. It has been moved over to the shoulder. It was tying up traffic earlier. Now it is not causing problems. And no problems to tell you about at the bay bridge toll plaza. Traffic looking very good. No delay. You will be able to sail right into the bay bridge. The time now is 7 31. Ill send it back to the desk. Thank you, allie. A huge Early Morning fire in santa clara at a cardboard manufacturing plant still sending smoke into the area. The fire is pretty much under control. Firefighters arrived at 3 00 this morning, attacking the fire from a safe distance because 15foot stacks of flaming cardboard bails were collapsing. There were also high voltage power lines nearby. They were able to get the fire under control by about 4 15 this morning. Look at all of the smoke still coming from it. The plant manager says all of the employees were evacuated and accounted for. At this point, the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Criminal charges are expected to be announced this morning against a man suspected of driving under the influence when he crashed into a chp vehicle, killing the officer inside, Andrew Camilleri. This happened Christmas Eve. Leigh martinez is live at chp headquarters with more. Reporter yes. Chp has not released the name of the driver suspected of being under the influence when he crashed into the car, killing the officer. Immediately after the crash, the driver was taken to the hospital. We never knew the nature of his injuries. At the First Press Conference that chp held, the chief said as soon as the driver was released from the hospital, he would be facing very serious charges. Chp says on Christmas Eve, officer camilleri and his partner were parked on the shoulder looking out for reckless or impaired drivers as part of the maximum enforcement effort. A red cadillac struck the patrol car from behind. Officer camilleri was killed. Officer velasquez was injured but released the next morning from the hospital. So far the suspects name has not been released but he is 2 years of age and suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and marijuana at the time of the crash. On december 26th, a procession of Law Enforcement escorted the body of camilleri to his hometown of tracy. His funeral was this past saturday. He leaves behind a wife and three children. We also know he was very active in his church. So, again, coming up today at 10 00 this morning, chp, along with the District Attorneys Office will hold a joint press Conference Announcing the charges against the driver who caused the crash. We will have the results today at noon. Thank you. Just about 90 minutes from right now we could learn when the trial will begin for the two men charged in the ghost ship fire. They are set to appear at 9 00 today. A judge is expected to set a trial date. They are charged with 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter, one for each of the People Killed in the december 2016 fire. Last month at a preliminary hearing, a judge ruled that there was enough evidence to proceed to trial. The hillsborough real estate heiress are accused of killing keith green back in 2016. A pretrial conference is set for today to set a jury trial dade. Li had two daughters with green. She was worried that green would take custody of the children. In april, her family helped her post 35 million bail, putting her under house arrest after a year in jail. More crowding expected at bay area dispensaries now that the sale of Recreational Marijuana is legal in california. While some cities like San Francisco still working on certain regulations, you can buy Recreational Marijuana at dispensaries in cities like berkeley, oakland, richmond, san jose and santa cruz. Yesterday Berkeley Patients Group kicked off its sales with the mayor of berkeley cutting the green ribbon. Organizers say it is americas oldest operating dispensary. Were told that the mass majority of people were new recreational users. I think this is something now that its legal that i would like to partake in on a regular basis. Feels festive. A lot of people have questions about how Recreational Marijuana is taxed. California has a 15 excise tax. There is also a sales tax on Recreational Marijuana. Cities can opt to charge a cannabis tax as well. In oakland, for example, dispensaries will charge a 10 tax for recreational users. That means if you buy pot in oakland, you could be charged a little more than 34 . Where does all of the money go . The state plans to give some of the money to medical Cannabis Research programs, Substance Abuse Education Programs and also to the chp so it can create new dui rules. While recreational sales are now legal here in california, lake tahoe ski resorts are bang the drug from their locations. According to the reno gazette journal, even though skiers can legally buy marijuana on both sides of the border, the resorts dont want smoking on their property. Skiing while high would be dangerous. Now there is a renewed effort to build trust between police and the community. They marked the anniversary of the death yesterday. In 2009, oscar began was detained at the Fruitvale Bart station. He was unarmed when he was shot in the back by a bart officer on the platform. As car grants mother Wanda Johnson is now an advocate for atrisk youth and pushing for changes in policing. We want them to invest time in their communities. As they invest time, to work side by side with the community. When they do that, it will build a better relationship. Now, miss johnson is also leading the oscar grant foundation, a nonprofit she started that supports teenagers by offering scholarships and other opportunities. Now to new information about the plane crash in coast rick athat killed ten people, including americans on sunday. We know that the tour was organized by back roads and a 33yearold tour guide from wisconsin was among the People Killed when the plane crashed. Nine people were killed overnight in clashes between protesters and security forces. It is the sixth day of protests. The protests began over economic concerns. Now some of the protesters are chanting against the government and against the supreme leader. Hundreds of people have been arrested. Today a judge warned that some of them could get the death penalty. President trump has been tweeting support for those protesters. Dramatic video from the u. S. Coast guard of a rescue in florida where a car plunged into a marina in panama city. A 89yearold was pulled from the sinking car after it crashed through a guardrail and landed in the water. Also in the south bay, northbound 87 at kurtner avenue, a twocar collision there slowing things down. Looking at the san mateo bridge, things look good there making your way towards the peninsula. No issues to talk about. Pretty easy drive for you driving from the cara liu ridge carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze, no issues. This looks like it could be a weekend or sunday morning as smooth as traffic is moving there. No delay whatsoever to get to the toll plaza and on to the span. The time is 7 47. Firefighters in santa clara on the scene of a massive fire at a cardboard manufacturing plant. Christien kafton is at the scene and tells us that crews still have hours of work ahead of them. Reporter crews here in santa clara really working to make sure that the fire does not start up again. They have been out here for hours this morning, since around 1 00 this morning. You might imagine with cardboard here, there is literally tons of fuel for the fire to burn. Crews first responded to a fire around 1 00 this morning and found an outside storage area ungulfs in flame engulfed in blames. All of the employees were evacuated so firefighters took caution. They dumped 7,000 gallons of water on the fire to get it contained. Now it is a matter of keeping it contained. Our biggest concerns right now are getting to the seed of the fire. They stack they are four high and they are about four feet tall each. It amounts over to 15 feet each. As they burn and fall down on each other, it is dense material. It is hard for us to penetrate all the way into the seed of the fire. Were having to at this point in time get ready for the overhaul operations. Thats going to need heavy equipment to do some of that. Reporter Santa Clara Fire Department says fuel storage and high voltage lines in the area complicated their efforts this morning. They were able to get it under control at 4 15. Crews say they are expected to remain on scene for hours mopping up. They are wait being for heavy equipment. Now that is the sun is up, they can get a fire investigator into the area to determine exactly how the fire started in the first place. In santa clara, christien kafton, ktvu fox 2 news. Santa rosa police are looking for a man who fired a gun in a road rage incident last night. It happened just about 8 45. The victim says the suspect was tailgating him and he noticed the driver was carrying a gun. He told police he went down several side streets trying to lose the suspect. When he tried to turn around, the suspect shot at him once, hitting his vehicle. A Community Watch group is offering up 2,500 with anyone for information leading to an arrest in this case. The gunman is described as a white, possibly latino man in his 30s or 40s and was driving a newer silver suv, possibly a mercedes. A san leandro woman is recovering after being hit by a spray bullet on new years eve. No one realized what had happened when she was first hit in the back. She was like quiet. And then we understand that she has like pain. But then she didnt want to scare us. So she didnt say anything for like one hour. The likelihood is that this bullet came down, struck the ground, ricocheted, losing all of its velocity and then hitting her. Fortunately she was not struck in the head. She was not struck critically. We got lucky this time. And the police also say if she had been standing a foot over, the bullet may have hit her in a more critical spot in the body. The police had to explain to the group that shooting into the air can lead to serious injury or death. Computers crashed at the u. S. Customers and Border Protection agency, temporarily knocking out the processing system. San Francisco International airport was among the many airports affected. Other airports include ohare, miami, denver, and seattle. The computer outage lasted about two hours but some travelers had to wait longer than that as they tried to get through passport control. We came here and customs was backed up. By the time we arrived, they said the system was down for to hours. Hundreds of people were waiting. It was disappointing. I would hope that they would have a backup plan when Something Like that goes wrong. A spokeswoman for customs and Border Protections dont think it was a deliberate act. President trump is back at the white house this morning after returning from florida last night. The crew immediately located the hikers who were kind of waving their cell phone lights at the chopper. One of the hikers was injured and had to be flown to a waiting ambulance. The time is 8 16. A couple minor issues to talk about. Highway 4 in the east bay. This is at highway 4 at Franklin Canyon road. There is a twovehicle crash that happened a short time ago. It has been moved off to the right hand shoulder. It isnt slowing things down in that area too badly. We mentioned it last time, about a vehicle blocking the intersection of canyon and grove way. We have information that that is a moving van with 17,000 pounds of stuff, according to the chp. They are calling it a heavy duty tow truck and awaiting for that to arrive to clear that. Traffic is lighter on this stretch heading towards the caldecott tunnel than an hour ago. Now things are clearing up and traffic moving nicely. Also on 880 in oakland northbound and southbound, as you pass the coliseum, no problems to tell but there. Similar story for 280 in san jose. Smooth sailing for you this morning. The time is 8 32. We will send it back to the desk. Thank you, allie. A huge fire at a cardboard manufacturing plant is still sending smoke into the air. When firefighters first arrived in the area at about 3 00 a. M. Today, they had to attack the fire from a safe distance because huge flames were pouring from the building due to 15foot stacks of flaming cardboard inside on fire. Keep in mind, high voltage power lines were also nearby. These photos taken by firefighters just arriving at the scene at the height of the incident. Crews were able to get the fire under control by about 4 15 this morning. The Fire Department says the plant manager reported all employees vackitied and accounted for so really there was no reason for crews to head into the building. At this point though the cause of the fire is still being investigated. Criminal charges may be announced for the man accused of driving under the influence when he killed officer Andrew Camilleri on Christmas Eve. Leigh martinez is joining us live in vallejo. What can we expect to hear today . Reporter well, chp has never released the name of the driver involved. Immediately after the crash that killed officer camilleri, the suspected driver was taken to the hospital. We never knew the nature of his injuries. We were told by the assistant chief during the First Press Conference on Christmas Day that when the person was released from the hospital, they would be facing some very serious multiple charges. Now, chp says on Christmas Eve, officer camilleri and his partner were parked on the shoulder in hayward looking out for reckless or age paired drivers as part of the maximum enforcement. The patrol car was struck from behind and officer camilleri was killed and his partner was injured but was later released from the hospital. The driver is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and marijuana at the time of the crash. On december 26th, a procession of Law Enforcement escorted the body of officer camilleri from the Coroners Office in oakland to tracy, his hometown. The funeral was this past saturday. He leaves behind a wife and three children. And that press conference will take place here in vallejo at chp headquarters with the district attorney. They will be announcing the charges against the suspected driver. And that will happen at 10 00 this morning. Leigh martinez, live in vallejo. Thank you. More crowds are expected at bay area marijuana dispensaries now that it is legal here in california. Some cities such as San Francisco with are working on certain regulations. It can be purchased at dispenseys in cities such as berkeley and santa cruz. Patients group kicked off sales yesterday with the mayor of berkeley cutting the green ribbon. It opened a couple hours earlier on new years day to handle the large crowds. Some people waited in line for hours to be one of the first to buy the marijuana under the new rules. Recreational marijuana users also packed dispensaries in the east bay. The store in san jose, the anticipation and line started up at about 7 00 new years eve night. The dispensary kicked off sales with a ralph and free coffee and donuts. The vast majority of the business were new recreational users. I think this is something now that it is legal that i would like to partake in on a regular basis. It feels festive. Everybody is extremely happy here. We all got smiles on our face. Were all standing in line. No matter how long it takes to get in there. The store expects its retail sales to more than double in 2018. Many customers have questions about how Recreational Marijuana is actually taxed. California has implemented a 15 excise tax. And there is also a sales tax on Recreational Marijuana. Sit others can opt to charge a cannabis tack as well. In oakland, dispensaries will charge 10 tax for recreational users. If youre buying marijuana in oakland, you could be charged a little more than 34 in all taxes. Where does all of the money go . Reporter television was her escape. Seeing the cosby show and seeing that people can live like that. I wanted to live like that. I wanted something bet sphere although she admits she got into trouble a lot, she was a scrappy kid who believed that people in the community saw something in her. All these people throughout my life really pushed me and supported me. So its why i went to college and why i came back and wanted to work in my community because i felt like there were too many young people that grew up the same way that i did that were falling through the cracks. Reporter after graduating from galloway high school, she received her bachelors degree there uc did i from uc davis and has been in Public Service ever since. I grew up here. Weve had our challenges. Two people suffered serious injuries after a delivery truck hit them in a crosswalk in the richmond district. It happened just before 4 00 yesterday afternoon near gary much the truck driver swerved and hit the two pedestrians and crashed into a car with a family of five in the car. The people in the vehicle only had minor injuries. The two people who were hit, a 66yearold man and a 79year old man had to be taken to the hospital. They interviewed the truck driver but no word on why he crashed. We could learn when the trial will begin for the two men charged in the ghost ship warehouse fire. The two are scheduled to appear in court at 9 00 in alameda. A judge is expected to schedule a trial date. They are charged with 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter, one for each of the victims killed in the fire.
