The san mateo bridge looks good as well. Things are getting more crowded as the morning goes on as you make your way over to the peninsula. We are starting with breaking news in santa clara in the south bay. A lot of heavy smoke from a fire at a large commercial building. Its a cardboard manufacturing plant on matthews street. Christien kafton is live at the scene. At one point this fire was sending flames into the sky. Reporter yes. As you said, this was a massive fire at one point. Fire crews largely have this under control. Lets give you a live look. You can see they are still dumping water on this fire and it still putting off a lot of smoke and steam. This is what it looks like earlier. Santa clara fire put this out on social media. We were on the scene and we also got pictures of the fire. It was huge. Santa clara Fire Department said there were cardboard bills stacked as high as 15 feet as well as fuel storage and the highvoltage power line over the area, increasing the danger. With all that cardboard there was plenty of fuel for the fire to get going. One fire crews first arrived, they went defensive spring water without approaching too closely. The plant manager said that all employees were evacuated and accounted for so there was no reason for firefighters to enter the inferno. They went defensive and put water on it from the outside. As we come back to the live picture, you may be able to see there is a great deal of steam and smoke in the air. You can also see a lot of ash falling in the air as well. Around 4 15 am, the fire was under control. Fire crews are expected to remain on scene four hours mopping up. At this point the cause is unknown. The investigation is underway. Again, you can see how massive this effort is and you can imagine with bales of cardboard sect 15 feet high, how much fuel there was for this fire. This happened christmasy. Authorities say officer Andrew Camilleri and his partner was parked on the shoulder of 880 when a red cadillac hit them from behind. Camilleri was killed and his partner was injured but is expected to recover. The suspects name has not been released. We are told he is 22 years old and suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or marijuana at the time of the crash. Two people are recovering from injuries after a delivery truck hit them in a crosswalk in San Franciscos richmond district. This happened just before 4 00 yesterday afternoon. Police say the truck driver swerved and hit two pedestrians and then crashed into a car with a family of five inside. An officer on the scene gave us an update on the victims injuries. One is a 79yearold white male. He has internal bleeding and is in serious condition. The second is a 66yearold white male who has a broken rib that punctured a lung. The people in the car had minor injuries. Police did interview the truck driver. There is no word as to why he crashed. In san leandro, young woman recovering after a stray bullet hit her at a new years eve party. The police are blaming gun fire, celebrating the new year. We want to show you live pictures from the scene in santa clara. We are up there with the firefighters on that huge letter. Power lines are also in this area. The Fire Department said cardboard bills stacked 15 feet high and that building and there are fuel storage tanks and highvoltage power lines. That will increase the danger. Many of firefighters are on the scene. We saw a lot of flames earlier. Everyone inside the building has been evacuated. Christien kafton is there and he said ash from the fire has been falling throughout the area. You can see how much water they are pouring on the scene. Airports for many International Travelers. All the airports affected by the problems are now operating normally including sfo. Last night, International Travelers waited hours to get through passport control. In addition to sfo airports affected included seattle, chicago, dallas, atlanta, miami and denver. The outage is believed to have been caused by technical problems. An Airline Study shows 2017 was one of the safest years on record for flying. There were 10 deadly commercial passenger and cargo airplane crashes last year killing a total of 44 people. The Aviation Safety Network which monitors aviation accidents that the number of deadly crashes was less than the fiveyear average of 17 crashes and 495 deaths. Researchers say a visa and safety has improved as more people fly. There were three times as many people flying today compared to 25 years ago. Today we may find out when the trial will begin but the two men charged in oaklands daily ghost ship warehouse fire. Derrick almena and max harris are due and Alameda County court at 9 am. A judge is expected to set a trial date. Almena and harris are each charged with 36 counts of Involuntary Manslaughter for each of the vic comes killed and that fire in december 2016. Sometimes you live with that pain that you come with. We want to try to help to kill the hurting heart. She is now an advocate for at risk youth leading the oscar grant foundation. Its a nonprofit she started that supports teenagers by offering scholarships and other opportunities. We are trying to build our youth. We want to build better communities. Investing in our youth is how we get better communities. Police said a woman was found shot to death inside her home. A man was detained while trying to leave the home. There were 76 homicides in oakland for all of last year. Thats down from 87 in 2016. Marc krauss are expected at marijuana dispensaries now that the sale of Recreational Marijuana is legal in california. While some cities like San Francisco are still working on certain regulations, Recreational Marijuana can be purchased at dispensaries in cities that include berkeley, oakland, richmond, san jose and santa cruz. Yesterday, Berkeley Patients Group kicked off Recreational Marijuana sales with the mayor cutting the green ribbon. Organizer say its americas oldest operating dispensary. They opened the doors at 6 am, welcoming the crowd, some of whom stood in line for a couple of hours overnight. Recreational marijuana users also packed dispensaries in the south bay. At one store, the anticipation in the line started building at 7 pm new years eve the dispensary kicked off recreational sales with a party, raffles, free coffee and donuts. They served 300 people in the first two hours of operation. Most were new recreational users. Many customers have questions about how mac marijuana is taxed. California has a 15 excise tax and there is also a sales tax on Recreational Marijuana. Cities can opt to charge a cannabis tax as well. In oakland, dispensaries will charge a 10 tax for recreational users. That means if you buy pot in oakland, you could be charged a little more than 34 . Where does the money go . The state says it plans to give some of the money to medical Cannabis Research programs, Substance AbuseEducation Programs and to the chp so it can create new dui rules. Reporter the serene looking shores of Huntington Beach but recently what lies beneath the surface of these waters has caused misery for many. I got stung. Reporter and in the past few days theres been an invasion of stingrays. Right now we have low tides in the middle of the day and we have a high population of stingrays. For some reason they are out here. Reporter and they are out in big numbers. Causing at least 150 people in the past few days to seek treatment for the painful stings they deliver. When you have people entering the water, they step on them. The fish kill into a defensive mode. They flip their tail up and they have a stinger that has poison and is composed of bone. Reporter thats what happened to this man from south korea who was surfing with a friend when he took a wrong step. It was his first time to america and he wanted to try surfing. I get them down into the water and five minutes later i feel pain in my foot. It really hurts. Reporter kim came to a lifeguard statements station for the treatment was effective. If you get stung and the barb stays inside, its pretty painful because the powers and spreads. If not, you can expect the pain to last around six hours or so.
