The hearse carrying officer camilleri is pulling up in front of the church. You can see officers making their way inside. Earlier we saw officer camilleris family arrived. We have seen men who we assume are the pallbearers and the honor guard is set up on at the entryway of the church. Hundreds if not thousands of officers are showing up to pay their respects. I saw officers from texas, florida and around the state of california. Officers are here to pay their respects to officer camilleri who lost his life in a suspected Impaired Driving incident. As you can see the pallbearers are beginning to move into position. Fellow officers will be saying thank you and farewell to officer camilleri. Though he only served for nine months or so, his fellow officers and his command officers say he certainly made an impact on the community. They made an impact on him with his commitment to his family, to Law Enforcement and to his community. That is now being reflected back at him as you see the turnout for his Memorial Service. The Memorial Service is expected to get underway at 8 30 am. We are expecting them to bring the coffin inside. There will be a welcoming greeting. They will be performing amazing grace. There will be a eulogy. There will be an introduction. His commander is expected to speak as well. A very solemn moment. One of the aspects that the fellow officers have highlighted with me is that this happened on Christmas Eve. A terrible sense of timing. He was out there to protect others. An explanation from the staffing crisis that they are facing. 26 officers have left in the last year. That mean otselic a lot but for a department that is authorized to have 181 officers losing one hurt. According to the po a the number of residents has increased by 20 since 1999. Over that time they have had a 30 reduction in officers. Berkeley pd has 160 officers on the force. Seven of which are in training. It takes more than one year until they will be on the street. The council and the mayor need to decide if they value Public Safety. If they do, they need to support the berkeley please department. 50 of its revenue is spent on Public Safety. Many of the perks they once had are now gone. We dont have tasers, canines, helicopter unit, marine unit, we dont have a Drug Task Force anymore. The officer recently graduated and was with her Training Officer at the time. One suspect has been taken into custody. They are searching for other possible suspect. A dispute erupted into violence. When officers got to the scene they found Fernando Miramontez lying on the ground. He was rushed to la medical center. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. Deangelo said it is intended to prevent a negative experience if a child or pet accidentally ingests the product. There is good reason for these regulations. The regulators have carved out capsules for people who may need more than 10 milligrams at a time. They are waiting for the rush. Memorial service is underway for the chp officer killed in the line of duty on Christmas Eve, officer camilleri. We are seeing a tribute from officers all over the country. Secretary Brian P Kelly is talking about the state transportation and offering the condolences following this terrible accident and paying tribute to officer officer camilleri. We can tell you officer camilleri. We can tell you that we have heard from officer camilleris brother and sister. I heard unexpectedly with from his partner who was in the car with him during the night of this terrible accident. During a heartfelt moment he was talking to those there and he said he was proud to have been his partner. They had only worked together for about three months but they developed a deep and meaningful bond. He gave a hug to the widow and to the children. He said the partner i know is still there for me. If we can pass for a moment we will listen into the ceremony. A lot of tears and a lot of help heartfelt offerings. Service and security. Andrew joins 227 other chp officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. For me personally, andrew becomes the sixth line of duty death during my tenure as agency secretary. The name of each stays with me. Six heroes who i will forever admire. To andrews wife, his children, his siblings and his parents and to the entire family i want to thank you so much for sharing andrew with all of us. Your support enabled andrew to serve the state well whilst doing something he loved. People of california are grateful for his service. And for your sacrifice. Please know that the chp family is here for you and will be. In the department you are surrounded by people who care and who are dedicated to supporting you in the days ahead. His Commanding Officer said that he would see him at the start of shift and he was happy and had a big smile on his face. He loved being a part of Law Enforcement. Even when he had to bust people for a dui he was still happy to do that. He saw that as his duty, to take the drivers off the road. And now in a terrible coincidence it appears that an apparent dui driver was the one that took his life. They are urging drivers to be careful going into the new years holiday. They want to add more meaning to officer camilleris death. They want people to take that message that drinking and being impaired is unacceptable. The cost is too high. Can we go back there. You mentioned a very profound moment. Officer camilleris partner , Jonathan Velasquez got up in front of the crowd. That must have been an incredible moment for everyone there. Yes. Reporter it was unexpected. He was not in the program. They even said this was not on the program. Officer velasquez would like to offer a few words. At that moment, he was biting his own grief. You could see he was struggling with it. You could see that it was difficult for him. I believe we may have a little bit of that moment queued up on tape. Lets go to that for a moment so you can see for yourself what an emotional moment it was and how difficult it was. Andrew was a great partner and officer. He left his job and he loved the highway patrol. Andrew, i know you can hear me, i love you buddy. It was an honor being your partner. Rest in peace brother. Reporter that should give you a sense of the motion in that room. The room immediately after he wrapped up erupted in applause. People were very proud of officer velasquezs bravery. You can see the emotional content and the emotional commitment that those two had made to each other was obvious. He said it was his honor to be there as the officer passed away. They will be a part of officer camilleris family going forward. They have made a commitment to be there for them in the years ahead. You know that all of the officers no and their families know their families know that they are in danger and to deal with that is unimaginable. It is a very emotional day. We want to move along. A developing story out of Southern California where an lapd officer was shot and injured in what police are describing as an ambush. This happened near downtown la near 10 pm last night. A female officer was shot in the thigh and is now in stable condition. According to the la times, a gunman fired several rounds from a distance. Officers were conducting an unrelated investigation. The officer had graduated from the Police Academy and was with her Training Officer. One police one person was taken into custody. They are still searching for another suspect. A deadly workplace shooting happened yesterday afternoon around 2 30 pm not far from the long beach airport. Please say a man walked into a law firm where he worked and shot two men before turning the gun on himself. The gunman and one of the victims died at the scene. The other victim was injured. Here is cell phone footage that show people running from the law office. Witnesses say they saw s. W. A. T. Teams warming the building after. I saw s. W. A. T. Members form up about eight deep and started crouch and started in crouch down. The victims have not been named yet. More than 1 Million People are expected to bring in 2018 in New York Times square. We have been looking all life all morning long at the service happening at the Christian Life center. Family, friends and fellow officers are paying tribute. We have heard from his brother, his sister and his partner who was working with him on Christmas Eve who survived the crash. He got up and spoke. It he was not is scheduled speaker. He gave a very emotional talk. It was pretty incredible. Both officers were sitting inside the patrol car late on Christmas Eve. They were on duty looking especially on the lookout for impaired drivers. A driver that was under the influence of alcohol and possibly marijuana slammed into their patrol car. Officer camilleri died from his injuries. His partner survived. It is a tragic story around the holidays. He is a father and husband. There he is with his family. The most recent numbers released by the Mayors Office reports that they have 161 officers on the force, seven are still in training. It will take them one year to be on the street. The mayor said that the city spends 54 of its revenue on Public Safety. That is not enough to keep the department competitive. We do not have tasers, canines, a helicopter unit, a marine unit, we dont have a Drug Task Force unit anymore. Report neck the city says they reporter , the mayor says they supply important tools. Sacramento county deputies say they have arrested this coach. He is facing several felony charges including pandering and false imprisonment. This came after a 17yearold girl called 911 saying she was a victim of Sexual Assault and was being forced into human trafficking. She was in a backyard and she was hiding. Officers responded and found a male with another female that was ,17 17 years old. The sacrament a sacramento countys Sheriffs Office is looking for other victims that might come forward. I told my husband everything that happens we have to stay positive, we have to be hopeful, we cannot lose our faith. This is going to be the best new year, it is going to be great and unique because it is going to be her first new year. That sweet little face. Doctor saved the baby is now five pounds and is still recovering from several complications associated with premature birth. Doctors are confident that she will continue to overcome her health problems. Very incredible there. The end of 2017 is leaving us high and dry. There is hope for 2018. There is hope for some rain.
