This has been an incredibly tough 24 hours for the chb, especially the Hayward Office where camilleri worked out of. Chp said camilleri and another officer, jonathan velasquez, were near the southland mall when a cadillac came barreling down the on ramp behind them and slammed into their vehicle. The driver slammed into the back of the patrol car killing officer camilleri and injuring velasquez. They believed the driver was drunk and high and leaving a party. There are reports the was an officer hit on southbound eight eddie. And officer is down. Officer down can i get units started southbound. The children were expecting their father to come home to open christmas presents. Instead he chose to work today. Reporter the name of the suspect is not been released. Chp says he is in serious condition and they may release his identity when he is stabilized. The second officer has been released from the hospital. Starting new years day, bars, restaurants and companies that produce alcohol can help people who have had too much to drink at home without getting behind the wheel. They can offer vouchers for free or discounted rides through a ridesharing companies. The current law does not allow any business with an alcohol license to offer customers anything other than whats considered of inconsequential value. The alcohol industry strongly supported the new law but a San Rafael Group says it promotes and does encourage heavy drinking. It claims the law does not forbid the vouchers from being used to go somewhere else to drink something else. Deputy shot a man suspected of Domestic Violence. This happened before 2 00 monday morning at a home on princeton street in hayward. Someone reported a Domestic Violence incident. At the scene, the chp found a woman who said she was assaulted by her husband. When deputies found the man on the rear patio of the home, they say he took a machete from his waistband and try to attack them. One deputy fired at the suspect and hit him. Deputies arrested the suspect and he was taken to the hospital but is expected to survive. Fire officials in santa rosa say a fire last night was caused by discarded smoking materials. Crews responded to reports of a fire at an apartment on russell avenue near highway 101. They were able to put out the fire. It did cause 25,000 in damage. The woman who lives in the apartment was not home at the time but arrived as fire crews were finishing up. They say the fire started in the bathroom. No injuries were reported. An Investigation Continues into a Christmas Day house fire in San Francisco. It was first reported shortly before 1 am on monday on prospect avenue in the Bernal Heights avenue. Four people were displaced. Firefighters were on the scene in minutes and got everyone out of the home safely. The 2alarm fire caused major damage including to the neighboring homes on either side of the house. The red cross is helping four people. Fire investigators are trying to determine how the fire was started. The california Highway Patrol is mourning the loss of an officer after a deadly crash on the nimitz freeway late Christmas Eve. 33yearold officer Andrew Camilleri and his partner were watching for impaired drivers on the freeway north of highway 92 when a red car slammed into their patrol units. The impact was so severe that it turned the Utility Vehicle into a small, compact vehicle. That gives you an idea of the speeds that were involved. Both officers and the other driver were taken to the hospital. Officer camilleri died a short time later and is survived by his wife, a 12yearold daughter and two sons age 6 and 2. The other officer was treated for injuries and released. The driver of the red carpet was reportedly driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. He was seriously injured and will be booked on several felonies when his Condition Improves enough to transfer him out of the hospital and into jail.
