Chp said officer Andrew Camilleri and his partner were parked on the side of the freeway watching for drunk drivers when their suv was hit. Henry lee reports they were both taken to the hospital where the other officer was treated for minor offerings. Minor injuries. Camilleri died a short time later. Reporter Andrew Camilleri was killed by a motorist who was under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The same driver he and his partner were trying to stop on Christmas Eve. Today is not a Highway Patrol holiday. Today is a tragic loss of one of our own. In both officers were parked in the patrol vehicle on southbound 880 when they were rearended at high speed by a red cadillac. That led to a call the officer wants to hear. Reporter the 22yearold driver was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana after leaving a party. These irresponsible and senseless acts need to stop. Reporter officer camilleri, who was in the passenger seat, later died at the hospital. His partner was treated and released. Both officers were wearing their seatbelts. The impact was so severe it turned the Utility Vehicle into a compact vehicle. That gives you an idea of the speech that were involved. Reporter officer camilleri, was 33 years old. He had only been with chp for a year and four months. Andrew was drawn to this profession due to his courage, integrity and desire to for. The suspect is facing serious felony charges and will be transferred from the hospital to jail. One deputy fired at the suspect. Deputies arrested the suspect. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. His name has not been released. Fire officials in santa rosa say in Apartment Fire was caused by discarded smoking materials. There were reports of a fire at a onestory apartment on russell avenue highway 101 around 6 15 pm. They were able to quickly put out the fire. The woman who lives in the apartment was not home at the time but arrived as fire crews were mopping up. They say the fire was started in the bathroom. No injuries were reported. An Investigation Continues into a Christmas Day house fire in San Francisco. It was reported shortly before 1 am on monday on prospect avenue. Four people have been displaced because of the fire. Firefighters were on the scene within minutes and got everyone out of the home safely.
