Reporter we were having the same problem too, pam. Six people were first thought to be dead and they revised that down to three. There are a number of people in the hospital. There were 80 passengers on the train and five crew members. No one in the cars miraculously died on interstate five you see behind me. And it was morning rush hour. There are 70 people taken to the hospital and some of them in serious and critical condition. The numbers could fluctuate more today. One last question. One of the nearby towns was opposing the service because of safety concerns. What are you hearing about that. Reporter yeah, they didnt want this. They were protesting and saying this is not out in the middle of the country. This goes through our town, right by our interstate. And they were trying to make this a more popular train to shave off 10 minutes. They upped the speed. It was a fast moving speed. Nothing like you see in japan but it was a fast moving train. And some of the communities were trying to educate people. This is definitely a fast train. This train should not have been going 80 Miles Per Hour, however. The Pittsburg City Council approved a plan for a Security System on two freeways. This is all in response to several freeway shootings. Congratulations. [ applause ] reporter the Pittsburg City Council unanimously approved the freeway Security Network. Our citizens have been driving in fear along the highway. And so the safety of the motorists has actually been one of our highest prior toes. Reporter by late spring or early summer 2018 city and county Officials Say the freeway Security Network will be up and running in contra costa county. Eight people have been killed. The system will be made up of cameras, shot spotter technology, and license plate readers. When shots are fired on the freeway, the shot spotter will turn the camera in the direction of the gunfire. And then shot spotter will send an alert to our task force commander. The task force is made up of the fbi and chp. The system will be installed on interstate 80 and highway 4 from richmond to hercules and all the way to antioch. Pittsburg, san pablo, and richmond are participating in the project. It hits home real quick. You dont look at anybody on the freeways any more. The mother of demarcus the victim of mistaken identity killed on interstate 80 tells me she supports the freeway camera project. He wasnt affiliated with any gangs. He was just driving along like you or me. Finally, well have tools to help the chp. This is what this is about. Its a deterrent. We cant expect the Law Enforcement to be everywhere. Police have arrested four teenagers suspected of firing flare guns at cars and homes. The four suspects are between 15 and 16 years old. And were booked into Juvenile Hall in martinez for shooting into occupied homes and charged with conspiracy. They also found the car used in the attacks. There were 12 flare guns inside. A sad story. A 14yearold boy from redwood city drowned in a hot tub at a lake tahoe resort. He was found 1 30 sunday afternoon. Deputies performed cpr but he was later pronounced dead. The childs name has not been released. Its unclear how the boy ended up in the hot tub and the death is under investigation. It appears to be an accidental drowning. The use of cell phones may be banned the next time state lawmakers meet to discuss ways of improving their policies for preventing and responding to Sexual Harassment. The ban was suggested after a legislature harassment Training Session last month. According to one lawmaker. Some people take the training seriously, and some are on their phones and some are even cracking jokes. California law requires lawmakers and legislative staff to attend Sexual Harassment training every two years. Its aimed at preventing the behavior that forced two lawmakers to resign last month.
