The mayor died of a heart attack early tuesday morning. Christian Christien Kafton is outside city hall were a weekend of special honors is beginning. Reporter the city is just beginning to say their final farewells to the mayor. If you look you can see the informal memorial weve seen watch on the front steps of city hall which includes flowers, photographs and candles left here as people say goodbye to to mayor ed lee. Today the city will begin officially saying goodbye. The mayor will lie in state today at city hall. He will be brought here sometime between 6 45 am and 7 00. The doors to city hall will open at 8 00. Mourners are being asked to gather on the polk street side of city hall to line up for a closed casket viewing. The mayor will lie in state from 8 am until 7 pm. A Memorial Service is also set up for sunday. At this point the family in the city are finalizing details on that. Former mayor willie brown and nancy pelosi are among the city and state readers expected to come here to city hall to pay their respects today or on sunday. We do know the Memorial Service on sunday will begin at 3 00 here at city hall. Remember that the opportunity for people to come by to see the mayor one final time the doors open at 8 00. People will be allowed in to city hall to see the mayor lying in state until 7 pm this evening. Thank you for being here and we will check back in with you. The two men charged in last years ghost ship warehouse fire in oakland will stand trial on Involuntary Manslaughter charges. A judge ruled there is enough evidence to bring criminal cases against defendants Derrick Almena and max harris. Almena rented the converted warehouse that caught fire last december. That fire killed 36 people attending a music party in the building. Yesterday was the last day of the preliminary hearing. The victims relatives cried in court when prosecutors read the name of each person killed in the fire. They believed there was sufficient evidence of the guilt and responsibility of these defendants for creating the ghost ship and making it, as the judge stated in his final words, he called it a death trap. This was not a death trap. It was orderly and clean and wholesome and in many respects my client did everything humanly possible within his financial means to make it that way. The defendants will return to court in january but we are told their trial may be at least a year away. A man who was bitten on the arm by ec lying in while swimming in San Francisco bay is recovering. This happened yesterday near aquatic park beyond the cove. Fortunately he was rescued by a sailboat that was nearby returning to sausalito. The people on board call for help. The police put a tourniquet on the arm to stop the bleeding and the injured man stayed conscious and was even called. Had that boat not seen him, this could have been a different story. He was talking the whole time. Everything about him seemed pretty normal. We got the bleeding stopped as best we could and he was more worried about his clothing on the beach than about anything else. That was a good sign. Sea lion attacks are rare but swimmers and beachgoers are advised to stay away from sea lions and seals. They have very sharp teeth and a strong bite. In santa rosa two workers were rushed to the hospital after a building under construction collapsed. One worker had a cut on his face and the other injured his leg. A fire officials said a third worker hurt his back but did not go to the hospital. Workers replacing roof trusses on the building when the exterior walls buckled and the trusses collapsed. The Santa Rosa Building Division and cal osha will conduct an investigation. Three contractors in oakland have been cited and fined almost 150,000 for a construction accident back in may that injured 13 workers. They fell 20 feet onto freshly poured concrete as they worked on an elevated mold. A cal osha investigation conclude the scaffolding system was not designed, installed or inspected properly. Another plea for help this morning from the parents of a 20yearold College Student killed while playing pokimon go. Calvin riley of stockton was shot and killed in august of last year at aquatic park in San Francisco. He was shot in the back as he was looking at his phone. Police released a sketch of a possible suspect but his family pleaded again for witnesses to come forward. They took the most precious person in our lives. The Commission Voted that it will serve a recommendation to the city council to make a decision. The Berkeley City Council has not decided on a date to discuss the recommendation. Police and concord are searching for two gunmen suspected of robbing a medical marijuana Delivery Driver. This happened monday night around 6 45 pm on carlotta drive. Police say that thieves called in a fake marijuana order using a random address and they were waiting for the driver when he showed up. Police say the man stole the marijuana and tried to break into the Delivery Drivers car. A neighbor heard what was going on and called the police. When it comes to these mobile delivery services, they can be targeted in this way if these companies dont take the necessary provisions to safeguard their drivers by having commonsense practices in place. Police said at least seven radical marijuana Delivery Drivers have been robbed and conquered since april and in each case the dispensary did not verify the client ahead of time. Inadequate of killing kate steinle will be sentenced in three weeks. Sentencing for josi Ines Garcia Zarate is set for january 5. A jury acquitted him of murder and Involuntary Manslaughter but found him guilty of being a felon in possession of a gun. His attorneys have filed a motion asking a judge to throw out the conviction. They say the judge gave jurors wrong instructions about the charge. A federal Judicial Council will investigate a judge on the San Franciscobased ninth Circuit Court of appeals for alleged inappropriate behavior. We are talking about judge alex kozinski. He is accused of Sexual Misconduct on the job. Six women including former law clerks accuse the judge of engaging in inappropriate comments and behavior. Now the chief judge of the ninth circuit order a formal misconduct investigation. The judge was appointed by president reagan in 1985. Libya announced its coast guard rescued 97 migrants trying to sail to europe. The Group Includes 21 women and 2 children. An International Relief organization is providing blankets and food. This was the second rescue operation off the libyan coast. They rescued 114 people wednesday night. A firefighter has died while battling one of several fires in Southern California. Cal fire says 32yearold cory iverson died while battling the thomas fire in ventura county. He was an engineer with the state fire inching strike team from san diego. He leaves behind a pregnant wife and a twoyearold daughter. What i can say is a heartfelt and deep thank you for the outpouring of support for coreys family and the cal fire family. The cause of his death is still being investigated. This is the second death connected to the thomas fire. Last week a 70yearold woman died in a car crash while evacuating. The state recent wildfires are sparking tougher regulations for utility companies. The California Public utilities Commission Voted to implement new rules designed to prevent wildfires. These regulations call on utilities to increase the space between power lines and tree branches and also requires more inspections of utility poles and power lines. Companies will have to make repairs quicker. Utilities have six months to make these changes in certain highrisk areas. The Governors Office of Emergency Services will conduct a review of the way people in Sonoma County were notified of the deadly fastmoving wildfires in october. The Sonoma County board of supervisors asked for this investigation. Critics question why county emergency officials decided not to use a government alert system designed to send messages through tv, radio and cell phones. The same system used for amber alerts. The fires killed 24 people in Sonoma County and destroyed more than 5000 homes. The Environmental Protection agency will conduct an internal review of its response to hurricanes harvey, irma and maria. The epa office of Inspector General said the review will focus on whether or not the epa was prepared. The goal is to help the agency better plan and respond to future hurricanes. A coalition of young people gathered last night in oakland, protesting a lawsuit that could allow a major shipping terminal for coal back at the port of oakland. The protesters gathered outside the rotunda building which is owned by developer phil tagami. Tagami filed a lawsuit against the city of oak and. He wants to overturn the citys ban on storing and handling coal. Climate advocates are calling for a boycott of tagamis buildings. We want good jobs. We want clean air and he is opposed to both of those and we are asking folks to boycott his buildings until he drops the lawsuit. Oakland city council implemented the ban on transporting or shipping coal last year. Phil tagamis lawsuit is expected to go to trial next month. 5 40 am. Every kettle that is not out is a loss of 200. We are losing approximately 4000 every day because we do not have enough kettles on the streets.
