Were following developing news from texas about a state trooper killed in the line of duty. A suspect has been arrested. This happened about 90 miles south of dallas when trooper damon allen made a traffic stop. The trooper approached the vehicle and interacted with the driver and went back to his patrol vehicle. The suspect fired multiple rounds from a rifle at the trooper. Allen spent 15 years on the texas highway patrol. The suspect, bret black, he was tracked down and arrested. Back here at home, its been almost a year since the deadly ghost ship fire in oakland killed 36 people. Now, new body camera Footage Shows Police interacting with Derick Almena almost two years before that fire. How many times have you come back here . I dont know, in the past week. Reporter the body camera video shows Oakland Police talking with almena about problems about the warehouse. The Video Shows Police knew people were living there illegally. Youre not listening to me, they claim to live is there, from calls there, they live there. If youre so scared, you [inaudible] almena and codefendant max harris pled not guilty to manslaughter. Vallejo police are asking for help finding a missing 88 year old woman who has mild dementia. Police say birdy calvin was [inaudible] last seen wearing an orange jacket and red pants. Police say she was driving a red 2010 chevy impala. Victims of the north buy wildfire still coping with their losses. They and the people working to help them recover, they were the guest of honors at special thanksgiving meals. Leigh martinez says there was a spirit of gratitude at both events. I was checking something out, and i looked on the mantle, and i found somebodys ring and i got a hold of the owner. Today, as you know, is black friday. Holt day shop Holiday Shoppers are going to be out but some started last night. We were not first in line. We were probably 200 in. I went to walmart and then we went to jc penneys and stood in line for about an hour for boots. Reporter some of the bargain holders told us they skipped thanksgiving dinner to search for a deep deal. The target store hired more than a hundred employees to get ready. The guests are excited and ready to stop. Reporter though its already been busy at some stores, economists say black friday is not popular as it used to be. Many Small Businesses are reminding people shop local for what they call plaid friday. The idea was created in oakland. It is an alternative to shopping in the big box stores. Organizers encourage people to wear plaid to show support. Dont forget about Small Business saturday. According to a research firm, last year, independent businesses saw a 77 jump in sales on Small Business saturday. The Ridesharing Company lyft confirms its raising an extra 500 million in funding. The rideshare issued a statement that says increasing the potential for this round of funding will let the company further accelerate its service to drivers and passengers. A any report says lawyers for Michael Flynn are no longer sharing information with President Trumps team about the investigation into alleged russian meddling in the 2016 election. According to the new york times, that may be a sign that flynn may strike a deal himself. A part of muellers investigation will determine if the Trump Campaign colluded with russia to try to win the election. Republicans are on the final lap, hoping to push a major tax reform package through congress before the end of the year. President trump hopes it will give people a boost. Reporter the White House Christmas tree has arrived here in washington, and President Trump has already said what he would like to see under it. Were going to give the American People a huge tax cut for christmas. The markets would love to see tax cuts as well, especially a big reduction in the corporate rate. Trump supporters have been arguing for some time that there will be a payoff if and when that happens. The National Retail federation says more than half of us already started Holiday Shopping before thanksgiving. Brick and mortar retailers may be nervous. A lot of people may camp out outside of target and theyll make some purchases but i think online sales are going to grow and its going to be reflected. This may be the year thats marked by businesses like sears. A lot of these retailers are no longer viable. Minnesota senator al franken issued a thanksgiving apology after more women said he touched them inappropriately. Frankens statement says hes met tens of thousands of people and taken many photographs and he went on to say hes a warm person and hugs people and for some people, he said, that crossed the line. November is lung Cancer Awareness month. One cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths among both men and women and its not just smokers who get cancer. In fact, 25 of cancer cases around the world are non smokers. Researchers say theres not enough attention on it. Thats why donna is telling her story. Donna does not smoke, she exercises and eats healthy. Donna also has stage four lung cancer. Reporter if life can be captured in pictures, donna seemed like one out of a story book. Everything was going perfect. I married the top, we both went back to grad school, he got a detective job at a good city. We thought we were going to buy our forever home, had a boy and a girl, and then i got sick. At first, she thought it was a cold, a cough that wouldnt go away. I got to the point where i was coughing so hard, i was actually breaking ribs. They decided to do a biopsy, and when i woke up from anesthesia, i saw the look in my doctors face and i said just tell it to me straight, and he said its cancer, its stage four. Which means it had spread from her lungs to her lymphnodes and her brain. I had over 200 tumors in my lungs, and 13 tumors in my brain. Reporter she was healthy, didnt smoke, and when the symptoms started, she did not wait to go to the doctor. A lot of the screening guidelines for lung cancer are for patients who have a history of smoking. 25 of lung cancer world wide cannot be accounted for by smoking. Thats a big percentage when you think 1. 6 million cases are diagnosed yearly world wide. Thats a lot of people. Yes. Who never smoked. Who never smoked. Non smokers getting cancer is more predominant in men than women except in asia. More research is needed. Research has identified three specific types of lung cancer in non smokers. Donna has whats called ross one, a mutation of small cell cancer. Knowing what it is is game changer for treatment. We want to test for those because we have medications that can shut off that signals to make the tumor stop growing. There are still side effects. Terry has lost a lot of hair bit she can take the treatment at home with a pill. Before the treatment, she was on oxygen and couldnt walk around because she was in too much pain. I would say three weeks, i was up and running, no oxygen, no shortness of breath. Last week, i had my third scan, my lung scan, and they said my lungs now look like a normal, quote, unquote, normal person. 15 down to six tumors in my head, but theyre much smaller, reduced in size, not causing symptoms. Reporter we wish we could tell you that donna terry will get her story bookending, but the treatment is not a cure. Shes still stage four. She still has lung cancer. What we can tell you is that shes determined to tell her story for herself and for others. I cant take anything for granted anymore. Like tomorrows not guaranteed. Reporter if life can be captured in pictures, donna is building one filled with love and strength, the story of a woman who just wants to grow old with the love of her life, the story of a mother who is fighting with everything she has for that story bookending, the one giving her a chance to watch her babies growing up.
