Aaa is predicting this thanksgiving holiday will be the busiest on the roads in more than a decade. 51million people are expected to hit the roads and go 50 miles or more away from their home. If you have been on bay area roads the past few nights, you probably have seen the traffic. Heres an example tonight. This is a live look at highway 24 in walnut creek. Those headlights you see are going eastbound toward walnut creek. Another live look now at the holiday getaway traffic on 880 through oakland near the coliseum. Most nights at this time this is one of the busy spots but right now, doesnt look that bad out there for this time of night. And heres 101 heading out of San Francisco. Those are the lanes on the right. The lanes on the left with the headlights are all heading toward the bay bridge. You can see that traffic is pretty heavy in both directions especially heading toward the bay bridge. Obviously, during the thanksgiving holiday, theres a lot of concern about drunk driving. And in one hour, the chps maximum holiday enforcement goes into effect. That means you can expect to see a Highway Patrol officer if you are driving over the next five days. During last years thanksgiving weekend, 27 people were killed in crashes on california highways and more than half of them were not wearing seatbelts. We definitely see more people taking dangerous chances if you will. I think that has to do with both the fact that theres a lot more people out there. Everybody is in a rush to get where theyre going. Our hope is that they will just slow it down, realize that they are going to get to their destination. We just ask they exercise a little bit of patience and common courtesy to those around them. Reporter while millions of californians will be traveling this thanksgiving, others are staying home. The crowds, the hassle at the airports, you know, the crowded highways, everything. So when i can, i just stick around for the holidays. I always got to be alert when air driving, thats the key. So but, you know, dont text, dont be on the phone, just be safe. Reporter those extra chp officers will be on patrol starting at 6 00 tonight and this maximum enforcement period runs all the way through midnight on sunday. Even though this is the Holiday Season, dont expect any gifts from the chp if you get pulled over. Officers are not planning on handing out very many warnings this weekend. Two former students at Presentation High School in san jose are alleging that the school covered up reports of sexual abuse for decades. The women spoke with their attorney today at a news conference. But as ann rubin explains, the all Girls Catholic School strongly denies any wrongdoing. Reporter the pain is fresh though the allegations of sexual abuse by a Presentation High School teacher happened three decades ago. She said they went together to report what happened to administrators at the all girls school. Not only are we not getting help. She dismissed both of us were stern warnings to be careful about what we say. Reporter School Officials at presentation strongly dispute any claims that they failed to act. In a statement today, they say, quote, for anyone to suggest that phs had in any manner covered up or condoned any instance of sexual abuse is an outright lie. In fact, they say, they conducted an investigation 25 years ago, though they cannot discuss the outcome. Still, the attorney representing the women says more should have been done. The response by the administration at Presentation High School was to protect the image and reputation of the school and cast the safety and welfare of the students to the side. Reporter allard says the women want three things, an acknowledgment of wrongdoing, a public apology, and a commitment to a drastic change in mindset. He also says there are other victims. The teacher in catherine lahaines case died last year. But in recent weeks, the school put two current teachers on leave for leading to other incidents and for the women in those cases, she says this. I believe you. I support you. And i stand with you as we work to make a difference. Reporter the women and their attorney are now demanding a meeting with presentations board of directors in the hopes that something here will change. In san jose, ann rubin, ktvu fox 2 news. The 49ers play the seahawks this weekend. Everybody is wondering who the 49ers quarterback is going to be. Joe is here. The one thing about a 19 team these guys have not lacked for story lines so we can give them credit for that. 49er head coach Kyle Shanahan said today in his weekly meeting with the media that he has never been in a situation like he is in this year. He has never been with a team that gets a quarterback midseason and then has to get him up to speed quickly. It all gets a little more complicated. They were happy and clear about the fact that they were thrilled to have the chance to get Jimmy Garoppolo. They acknowledged it would take some time for him to learn a new offense. The other quarterback the rookie is coming off his best game of his career which also just happens to be the 49ers only win this season. Its hard to tell a guy after a win, thanks, now take a seat. I think sometimes, you know, people forget at the end of the day im still a rookie and you know, im going out there and doing the best i can every day. Theres going to be mistakes and things i learn from. I feel better each week about the offense and things ive learned from games and experiences. As a competitor you want to help the team win but its a tough situation coming in midway through the season. So its going to be a process. But well get there. Jimmy gets more and more ready each week. Is he going to be the best he can . To me, thats impossible. He hasnt been here long enough but tj did play his best football last week which definitely made the decision easier. Well, shanahan again this weekend his bet a little. He did say beathard is the starter as things stand now but you can bet that garoppolo will be on the field soon in the heat of battle as the 49ers evaluate the moves they need to make in the coming off season. So its an interesting dilemma in which to be. Beathard is a start they are weekend. It depends how they do against the seahawks and whether they do really well. Theyll leave him in. If they need to, they can trade him out. Just as the problem with the giants, the original plan was get garoppolo in after the bye. But then again, how do you tell a guy who is a third round draft pick obviously they thought highly enough of cy beathard to draft him. He goes out and improves every week, gets a win, oh, now take a seat. So what if he beats the seahawks . What do you do . It must be awkward in the locker room. Beathard knows garoppolo is the guy and then comes and takes his job. The quarterback position is always like that because with the exception of kickers there are fewer quarterbacks than anybody else on the team. Thats your competitor but your also in the meetings rooms and because theres only two or three of you, you see each other every, single day in the meeting rooms. The coaches more than anybody else does. So youre teammates and competitors, the nature of being a quarterback. It all comes down to business. Teams want to win games. Nobody says, oh, i cant wait to get in the nfl and be a backup. Everybody thinks they are the starter. Im curious, whats your reaction to the raiders firing ken norton . Well, its one of those things where i think it felt like somebody had to be accountable for the fact that their defense hasnt been anywhere near what the raiders expected it to be. He may or may not be the guy who had to go but he is the obvious guy when the defense is so bad the guy held accountable is the defensive coordinator. You think it will make any difference the rest of the season . Honestly, no. I dont. You were about to be diplomatic . I honestly dont. And they have some tough games coming up with no margin for error if they want to get into the playoffs. Joe, thank you. Certainly. All right. So you think you have a lot of turkey to carve tomorrow . One group of folks just carved more than 1600 pounds for a special dinner tomorrow. Coming up next, the feast and the stories of thanks at the Salvation Army. Setting up your turkey day forecast, its looking good. We had a couple of records today. Reporter that realization and the mercy of a judge who told him at his sentencing im going to give you one more chance in life. Im going to sends you to the Salvation Army. Reporter brought him here after going through the Salvation Armys drug rehabilitation program, they offered him a job.
