It began at 8 00 in the morning when the suspect opened fire in rancho tehama reserve. He shot victims apparently at random killing four people and injuring 10 including two boys. We spoke to a woman who says she came facetoface with the killer as she tried to visit a friend. When i try to go inside her house a guy stop behind me and said somebodys killing people and i said who and he said me. He shot me. One child was hit as he read with as mother. A neighbor walked to gunfire and bullets piercing through his walls. The guy started shooting. It was a big sound. His bullets came in my house, three of them. Reporter the rampage came to an end when the suspect was shot and killed. The shooting has sent shockwaves through the community. People died here today, folks. This is a tragic event for all of us. There are children involved. Its an emotional thing. The nuts and bolts are that we are Law Enforcement and this is what we do and we will do our job. Reporter investigators have recovered a number of weapons including a semi automatic rifle and at least two handguns including a gun found in one of the two vehicles that he stole our cards. The gunman tried to get into some classrooms at an Elementary School during the rampage. Reporter we are talking about 10 to 15 seconds. We keep hearing it from School Administrators and from people in the community. 10 to 15 seconds made a world of difference between one student being shot and possibly multiple students and staff being shot and possibly killed. That is what made a world of difference. 10 to 15 seconds when they heard those gunshots and they immediately said we need to begin lockdown procedures and the custodian was getting the last few children and with that suspect ran to truck into the fence here, jumped out of the vehicle with the semi automatic rifle and began firing at the school. We said the superintendent told us the gunman hadnt made it inside of the school because the gunman hadnt gone inside of the mobile classroom. And so the school has several of them. The government never made it inside because they were on lockdown. Those classrooms were locked and closed off. The Sheriffs Office said the gunman made it inside one of the bathrooms and once he realized he couldnt get into the classrooms he took off to continue his deadly rampage. Again we are talking about a very challenging situation. Phone lines were down and also the superintendent said the only way they were able to get information was because of the secretary was very heroic. I was notified by a heroic secretary who sent an email will crouching under her desk and reaching up and typing on the keyboard. One student was shot while hunkering down under a desk, hit by a bullet that pierced the wall of the school. That child was transported to Mercy Medical center and is in stable condition. The superintendent said things couldve been much worse describing the scene at that Elementary School as a war zone. It was a really horrific scene as described by the educators with multiple rounds being fired. Multiple magazines found at the scene we were very, it was a very difficult and terrifying situation which couldve gone a lot worse and we are grateful for the fact that although we did have one student injured in thats horrible enough, it couldve been much worse after the shooting in the school was clear the students were taken on a bus to a nearby Community Center where their parents were able to pick them up. School will be closed for the rest of the week as Law Enforcement continues their investigation and so they can make the necessary repairs to the school. Reporting live, ktvu fox2 news.
