How do you feel the city is doing in addressing issues that were revealed by the ghost ship . In washington tonight, republicans are promising to have a tax reform bill on the president s desk by christmas despite some differences between the house and senate versions. Democrats call the measures an assault on the middle class. House democrat leader nancy pelosi in San Francisco today said two million middle class californians would see a tax increase. It raises tax on the middle class no matter what they say. Slashes taxes to the wealthiest and corporations. Explodes the deficit. I think the deficit hawk is probably an endangered species if not extinct by now. For more on the tax bill we go to Caroline Shively live in washington to break down the key differences between the house and the senate bills. Reporter there is little rest for republicans in the congress and the white house who are trying to push tax reform through both chambers. We are deeply passionate about tax reform, deeply committed to it. Reporter as republicans continue to stress the importance of an overhaul, the house is gearing up to vote on its legislation. While lawmakers in the senate give us a look at how they would tackle reform, heres some of the highlights. The senate plan has 7 tax brackets compared to 4 in the houses plan and senators would keep the mortgage interest reduction at a Million Dollars while the house slashes it in half. Both plans would cut the Corporate Tax rate to 20 but the senate would delay that cut by a year. But the biggest Sticking Point is when it comes to state and local taxes. The senate plan removes the federal deduction for high tax states including property taxes. New Yorks Chuck Schumer urging republicans to vote no on the plan. And your only chance to stop it is by voting no next week on the house bill on the floor. This assault on the middle class that the republicans are putting forth, it is a tax scam. Reporter while republicans admit the plans differ, they say they will compromise and send is to the president for his signature. Id say its 90 the same as ours with little tweaks and nuances. Reporter the House Rules Committee will take it up wednesday, the full house could vote by next friday. Caroline, are republicans still sticking to this timetable of trying to get this bill through and signed before the end of the year . Reporter yes, ken. They are trying to. That is what President Trump says he expects from them. But it will certainly be tight. We are down to just a couple of weeks of legislative days left. If the house gets it through by the end of next week, the senate still has to put it together and then they have to get together and have the same bill and pass it one more time so christmas maybe, but it will be tight. Thank you, Caroline Shively in washington. He says his opposition to a second gun shop in town has nothing to do with the second amendment. This is about responsible city planning. This is about understanding the risk of having a gun store like turners in the city. Reporter part of that risk says gates and others is seen here. There was a rash of breakins at gun Stores Across the bay area last year in which thieves rammed their cars through storefronts and made off with hundreds of weapons. In fact, one of those burglaries happened just down the street at the local store. A san carlos mother is concerned another gun store in town could attract crime.
