You can see that if i put up the map, not 280 slow but so is 85 and 101 is getting into some action. Getting up into Mountain View and sunnyvale. Still plenty of room for you and i want to discourage you from getting on the road sooner rather than later on the peninsula. Highway 101 is the slowest and the san mateo bridge traffic is getting filled in. At the bay bridge, it is also backed up except in the carpool lane. There has been nothing unusual on the bridge for this mornings commute. It has just been slow traffic. 7 02 and lets go back to the desk. Officials in texas have confirmed the name of the man suspected in that deadly shooting of 26 people in the south texas church. Thing they have some helpful information, they are still trying to figure out the motive. This small town in sutherland springs, east of san antonio, are trying to pick up the pieces after this tragedy. 26 People Killed in the shooting and the youngest victim is only five years old. Several victims were teenagers and kids. School districts are adding counselors to help comfort children. From witness accounts, they were inside the small church when the gunman approached the building with a firearm and started shooting. He went around the church outside firing rounds and inside , went back around to the front and entered the front door of the church firing rounds as he was walking in the church. He got up to the front and turned around firing rounds going out. The gunman has been identified as Devin Patrick kelley, a veteran of the air force. He was dishonorably discharged on charges that he was assaulting his wife. 2 men that live near the church are being applauded for their efforts to stop the gunman. One of them saw the gunman and exchanged gunfire with him and that man elicited the help of a neighbor. They both follow the gunman on the highway. We just take pursuit and we speed over 87 through traffic and like i said, we hit about 95 going down 39 trying to catch this guy until he finally lost control on his own and went off in a ditch. The sheriff says they believe the gunman died from a selfinflicted gunshot wind that he may have also been injured by the neighbor who shot at him. The sheriff also says Law Enforcement officers are no closer to finding a motive if there even is one. The only connection they have found between the church and the gunman is that the gunmans mother and fatherinlaw may have attended the Church Although they were not there at the time of the shooting. It is not clear whether the gunman and his wife are still married. President trump is in asia this week and that is where he reacted to the news of the shooting offering his deepest condolences. This act of evil occurred as the victims and their families were in their place of sacred worship. We cannot put into words the pain and grief we all feel and we cannot begin to imagine the suffering of those who lost the ones they so dearly loved. The president also said the gunman was deranged and that this was a Mental Health problem and not a gun situation. Former president obama also expressed condolences and expressed and called for change. After this most recent mass shooting, democrats are again calling for reform. Nancy pelosi released a statement saying as we mourn the lives of those cruelly cut short, we must respond not only with prayer and unwavering love but with action. She goes on to say much more needs to be done in congress to make sure no other family is forced to endure such unimaginable tragedy. The fbi says the officer was attending a Terrorism Task force meeting when someone broke into his car and stole a shotgun, a rifle, ammunition, a bulletproof vest and an fbi raid jacket. Happening today in tampa cisco, the defense in the kate steinle case will begin presenting his case to the jury. On thursday, prosecutors rested their case almost 2 weeks after Opening Statements. They argued that undocumented immigrants josi garcia, intentionally fire the shot that hit steinle along the San Francisco waterfront 2 years ago and that he should be convicted of seconddegree murder of the defense maintains that the bullet ricocheted and the shooting was an accident. In this case, the gun used by garcia had been stolen from the personal car of a ranger with the bureau of Land Management. A Mobile Home Park in santa rosa was devastated in the north bay fire and is now red tagged because of asbestos. The Environmental Protection agency is closing access to the journeys and Mobile Home Park on sandy on mendocino avenue. Fire officials met yesterday with People Living in the Mobile Home Park to answer their questions. Access to the park is restricted pending test results expected this week. A teacher at a walnut Middle Creek School is arrested accused of sexual relations with a minor. Christians . Reporter we have new information about that Science Teacher who was here in Walnut Creek Intermediate School. He was a Science Teacher here and he has been arrested. He has been removed from the classroom pending the outcome of the investigation. We just got new information over the last four or five minutes. We walked over to the district offices where they released a statement about this incident greeting in part michael bartel, a sixth and seventh grade teacher at walmart Creek Middle School has been placed on leave effective monday, november 6 following his arrest for alleged Inappropriate Conduct with a minor. His parents said over the weekend that the district said over the weekend that he was on leave. The accident reportedly broke involves a minor in with he previously worked as a substitute teacher. The school says they performed a thorough background check. They have told parents that the das office has said no students at walnut creek intermediate have been involved in or identified in connection to this case but that the investigation is still underway. The district also tells us that he has been teaching since 2011. At this point, we are waiting for more information from Martinez Police and hope to find out more about this arrest. We are also hoping to talk to parents at Walnut Creek Intermediate School to find out what their reaction to all of this is as the news filters to the community about the arrest of this Science Teacher here at Walnut Creek Intermediate School. It is kind of becoming the normal thing to be sluggish out of San Francisco on the 101 and if you are driving on the east bay, we are back to concorde southbound. I am looking around for slow traffic and i do pretty much see it everywhere in hayward and fremont and union city. But we havent been marred by too many serious crashes. It is not a light commute as we get back to business on a monday. Now, lets go back to the desk. Back to that tragedy in texas. Following a deadly shooting at a church in sutherland springs. About 40 miles south of san antonio, texas. We know that at least 26 people are dead and another 20 people are injured by gunfire. Caroline . Reporter good morning to you. Still no word on a motive, this morning. I interviewed the sheriff and asked him about that and he said that since the gunman is dead, we may never know. He did say there is a potential clue that they will be looking into. The dead mans motherinlaw and fatherinlaw did potentially attend the baptist church. However, they did not attend Services Sunday morning. Part of the shooting was in fact recorded. Federal officials and local officials will be looking at that tape closely, today. Reporter investigators are piecing together what is now the deadliest shooting in modern history. More than 2 dozen people were killed when a gunman dressed in Tactical Gear stormed a church. The pastors daughter is among the victims. We have lost some great friends, today. And we had some really great friends injured. Reporter Governor Abbott attended a vigil sunday night. They call my wife because they were gunshots. Reporter the shooter is 26 yearold Devin Patrick kelley, courtmartialed a few years ago for assault on his spouse and child. President trump claiming the shooting is a Mental Health problem and not what he calls a good situation. A very deranged individual with a lot of problems for a long amount of time. Reporter we are also learning more about what happened after the gunman exited the church. There was a man on the street and heard the gunfire and realized it was going on at the church. He grabbed his own gun and confronted kelly right there in the parking lot. Kelly through his rifle to the ground, jumped in his vehicle and took off. That man and another man chased him down the street calling 911, the entire way. Eventually, he ran off the road having shot himself in the head. And we may never know the reason why. This morning, authorities are searching for stolen guns and ammunition taken from the car of a San Mateo County sheriffs deputy in San Francisco last friday. Alex savidge is in redwood city. You are at the sheriffs headquarters with more on this. What do you know, now, alex . We know that this is very concerning to the Sheriffs Office. The Deputy Sergeant at the center of this investigation is also a member of the fbis joint Terrorism Task force. On friday, he was attending an fbi meeting in San Francisco. When that sergeant returned to his parked car, he found that someone had broken in and stolen 2 guns as well as ammunition and his official fbi jackets. The first is going to be a shotgun 12gauge pump action. Brown stock. The second is an ar 4, black and color. Also, 40 mags containing 40 rounds each that were stolen. Reporter this is part of the radio call from San Francisco police about this breakin that happened on friday night on jones street. You can hear the officer describing the stolen weapons. A shotgun along with ammunition. Also taken from that car, a bulletproof vest and an fbi jacket. The San Mateo County Sheriffs Office immediately reported this step to San Francisco police as well as to his superiors. This was not the sergeant personal car. It was an unmarked car belonging to the Sheriffs Office. Also, it is unclear if the officer had those guns secured inside the car which is required by this department. The investigation is being headed up by the San Francisco Police Department because that is where the theft took place and we are awaiting more information from San Francisco police. We hope to get more details from them about this investigation, later today. The time is 7 36. The San Francisco police union is now considering taking the issue of giving tasers to Police Officers to the voters. Late friday night, the Police Commission narrowly approved giving tasers to Police Officers after a seven hour meeting. The plan calls for giving them tasers by december 2017. Commending the commission for taking action but he wants to speed up the process, possibly putting the proposal on the june 2018 ballots in San Francisco. Our polling numbers indicate that over 78 of residents of San Francisco launch want officers to be equipped with the stateoftheart equipment which is tasers. Tasers will reduce injury to the public, to the Police Officers and it will save lives. Some Police Critics have pushed back against lasers raising concerns about potential abuses. Tasers have long been debated in San Francisco making the city one of the last without tasers. Happening today, a new Program Begins in Sonoma County to help wildfire victims who are dealing with Hazardous Waste problems. You can sign up for the Government Program between now and november 13. The county will help remove Hazardous Waste from some of the Properties Destroyed or damaged in the recent wildfires for those who do qualify for it. Homeowners can find out more about the program tonight. The meeting begins at 6 00 at the santa rosa Veterans Memorial building on maple avenue. Another program to help wildfire victims gets underway this morning in Sonoma County. The county Assessors Office will begin teams of 2 appraisers to expect homes. The appraisers may lead to a new property tax bill for homeowners all across the county. Hundreds of people held an event over the weekend to show their gratitude to First Responders who put their lives on the line during the fire disaster. [ music ] many say that it was music with a message. Some 1200 people gathered at the Lincoln Theater for a special concert. Thinking First Responders and nasa and sonoma counties for their heroic efforts. We are pretty fortunate to be here today because of the First Responders. I am a little embarrassed, quite honestly. For the First Time Since his arrest after the warehouse fire that killed 36 people, the Master Tenant of the ghost ship warehouse in oakland is talking about the fire and the case against him. This is the first time Derek Almeida has spoken publicly since his arrest. He sat down with us to talk about the case, his family and that deadly fire. He is charged with 36 counts of manslaughter, one for each person who died in the fire. He is one of 2 men being charged. He says the warehouse was not up to Safety Standards from the moment you rented it and that he should not bear the full responsibility. I thought if you are going to rent a building to a group of artist, as the owner, you would have to tell the city, im going to be collecting money every month and there are going to be humans coming in and out of this building. What do i have to do to make sure i can legally collect that money . It had never been inspected, right . It was still listed in all the newspapers and says, i rented it as a dry goods warehouse and changed it on his own without telling anybody. Snuck in there and rented it as a storage warehouse. That is the story. That is not the story. I rented it as an art space, a community center, a boutique. But do i give that to the city . I have never done that. Ive never moved into a place where i had to tell the city what i wanted to do. I told the landlord what i wanted to do. The landlord owns the building and the landlord has to go to the city and say, hey, and then, theres a question. What do i think of the landlords . Deceitful and greedy. Do you think they rented you and unsafe building . Yes, definitely. They definitely rented me something they knew was unsafe. Lawyers for the owner of the building have yet to provide a response to his claims. The terminal was locked down after a passenger raised through a security checkpoint. He was then questioned by Airport Security and they determined he was not a threat. Federal and local investigators from texas are searching for answers in the deadly shooting of a church 30 miles outside of san antonio. We have the latest including social media post. According to investigators, the gunman appears to display an ar 15 semiautomatic weapon. We dont know if that was the weapon used in this attack. The gunman has been identified as 26yearold Devin Patrick kelley. He was courtmartialed on charges that he assaulted his wife and child. He received confinement because of it and a couple of years later, he received a bad conduct discharge and 2017 in 2017. The six people were killed and 20 others were injured when the gunman dressed in black Tactical Gear approached the church firing an assault type weapon. They had just begun their 11 a. M. Service inside and the sheriff said they were essentially trapped with nowhere to go when the gunman started firing. He went outside and to the inside of the church and back around to the front and enter the front door of the church. Firing rounds as he was walking in the church. He got up to the front and turned around firing rounds going out. 2 men are being applauded for their efforts. One of the men saw the gunman come out of the church with his weapon and exchanged gunfire with him. That neighbor got some help from another man nearby and both followed the gunman on the highway in their pickup trucks. We just took pursuit and we speeded, hitting about 95 trying to catch this guy until he eventually lost control on his own and went off in a ditch. They believe the man died of a selfinflicted gunshot wound but may have also been injured by the neighborhood exchanged gunfire with him. The gunmans mother and father inlaw may have occasionally attended services at the church but they were not in attendance that morning when this all happened. President trump is in asia this week where he reacted of news to the shooting by offering his deepest condolences. Is actively people occurred as the victims and their families were in their place of sacred worship. We cannot put into words the pain and grief we all feel and we cannot begin to imagine the suffering of those who have lost the ones they so dearly loved. The president also said the gunman was deranged and called this a Mental Health problem and not a gun situation. Former president obama also expressed his condolences. San Francisco Police are investigating the theft of several weapons from an unmarked car from a San Mateo County sheriffs car. Investigators say the officer was attending a Task Force Meeting with someone broke into his car and stole a shotgun, rifle, ammunition and a bulletproof vest. The police are still looking for whoever took those items that we will have a live update for you at 8 30. The stanley case will present its case to the jury. On thursday, prosecutors rested their case almost 2 weeks after an Opening Statement arguing that the immigrant did not intentionally fire did intentionally fire a shot that struck her 10 years ago. The defense maintains that the bullet ricocheted and that the shooting was an accident. In this case, the gun had been stolen from the personal car of a bureau of Land Management ranger. In response to the steinle killing, and law was passed one year ago requiring gun owners including Law Enforcement officers who leave firearms in their car to lock them in a safe box or in the trunk. That law 2 that in january of this year that law took effect in january of this year. Because of Dangerous Levels of asbestos, the Environmental Protection agency is closing the park at mendocino avenue. Fire officials met yesterday with residents of the Mobile Home Park to answer their questions. Access is restricted pending the results of more tests and those are expected this week. A new Program Begins in Sonoma County today to help  wildfire victims dealing with Hazardous Waste problems. They can sign up between now and november 13. The county will help to remove Hazardous Waste from some Properties Destroyed or damaged in the recent wildfires. A teacher at a walnut Creek Middle School has been arrested accused of an inappropriate relationship with a student. Reporter a Science Teacher here has been arrested and is on leave depending depending on the outcome of this investigation. We do have new information. A press release saying in part that he has been placed on administrative leave effective monday, november 26 monday, november 6. The School District sent out a statement saying he is on leave. He was arrested for inappropriate contact with a minor. This reportedly involves a minor where he previously worked with whom he previously worked as a substitute teacher. The das office has no student has been involved in or identified in connection with this case but that the investigation is underway. The district also tells us that he has been teaching since 2011. At this point, we are awaiting more information. Police are asking that anyone with information come forward. One final note, we have also seen some walnut creek officers who say they are in the area assisting with the investigation and we will continue to follow this story and bring you the very latest developments. That monday morning commute is well underway and we will check in with sal to see how we are doing. We are looking at commutes that are going to be moderate. 880 southbound, i am beginning to see some slow down south. That alerts me to the fact that there could be something that is beginning to affect traffic as you head down to san leandro. As you can see, traffic is beginning to backup where it would not normally be. But all lanes were open recently. It looks like some of that backup may have not gone away just yet. The lanes opened a few moments ago but the traffic is still slow in both directions. Lets take a look at some of the other commutes and you can see 80 westbound is going to be moderate. Out of the bay bridge, a 25 or 30 minute delay. That bridge traffic looks good in the San Francisco area. Exploring other parts of the east bay, 680 has caught my attention from all of the slow traffic at concorde. Almost all the way to san ramon. It has been a slow drive and so has highway 24. Next rain, wednesday evening and it could be wednesday afternoon to the north. Thursday morning for everyone else and probably a hit and miss on friday. The suspects name is Devin Patrick kelley. He has a 26yearold white male. The cause and manner of the death with the shooter will be determined by a pathologist during the autopsy. However, investigators have found evidence at the scene that indicates the subject may have died from a selfinflicted gunshot wound. We can tell you, as with all active shooter situations, the goal of all Law Enforcement is to neutralize the shooter. In this situation, we had 2 Good Samaritans who did that for Law Enforcement. Law enforcement was responding and we know that a local resident who lives across the street from the church heard what was going on and armed himself with an ar Assault Rifle and engaged the suspect. They engaged at the church. We know that the suspect was shot when he dropped his Assault Rifle and fled the scene. This Good Samaritan flagged down another young man and jumped in his vehicle and they pursued the suspect. We know that during that pursuit, the suspect used his cell phone to notify his father that he had been shot and didnt think he was going to make it. Subsequently, he shot himself and as i said, the pathologist will determine the cause and manner of his death. We can confirm that the suspect did not have a license to carry. The suspect did have a noncommissioned unarmed private security license similar to a Security Guard at a concert situation. You have been listening into the News Conference in sutherland springs. Can remain in Critical Condition. Six are in stable condition. The number of dead remains the same as yesterday, 26. But the gentleman says that number could change because of those 10 individuals in Critical Condition. The gunman did die of a self inflicted gunshot wound. There are so many questions. The warehouse fire that killed 36 people, talking about the tragedy and the case against him, it is the first time derek has spoken publicly since his arrest. He sat down at a santa rita jail to talk about the case with his family and the deadly fire. He is charged with 36 counts of manslaughter, one of 2 men being charged. He says the warehouse was not up to Safety Standards from the moment he printed it and he should not bear the full responsibility. I thought that if you are going to rent a building to a group of artists, as the owner of the building, you have to tell the city. The search continues for guns and ammunition stolen from a Law Enforcement vehicle right here in the bay area. Welcome back. Again, we begin with the tragedy in texas. We have more information coming up. Southerly springs, about 40 minutes southeast of san antonio. We know that 26 people are dead and 20 people are in the hospital, 10 of which are in Critical Condition. Reporter this News Conference which is ongoing is confirming some of the information that we already knew. That it was a selfinflicted gunshot wound that took out the driver, the suspect. We are also being told that the 2 men that stop them are heroes. The police are going into details about how these 2 men jumped in the car , followed and helped to neutralize the suspect in this case. Reporter originals at the First Baptist church are still in disbelief, one day after Devin Patrick kelley opened fire at church services. Patrick tells me he is still trying to figure out what drove him to do it. He just went up in there and shooting on the way in and shooting on the layout. Reporter he was confronted on his way out by an armed civilian. He escaped and was found later with a selfinflicted gunshot wound to the head. He believed his inlaws attended the charge. That is a connection that they will be investigating over the coming days. He received a bad conduct discharge from the air force after assaulting his wife and child and had been refused a gun permit in texas. President trump says he was deranged and no gun control laws could have prevented the shooting. We have a lot of Mental Illness in our country but this is not a Mental Illness but this is not a gun situation. Reporter three guns were recovered. 2 of them at the scene and one in the car with him. Because of his conviction of assault, he should not have been able to legally purchase a gun. Authorities will be going into details. Where did he get the gun . How did he get the gun . The Texas Governor saying that he was denied a gun permit. Still, more questions in this case. Law enforcement has reached out to the gunmans family members, havent they . That is right, he was apparently living on property owned by his family. His motherinlaw and fatherin law occasionally attended church here. They will be reaching out to find out more details. The Sheriffs Department also said that the gunman called his father on his cell phone during the middle of this highspeed chase to tell them that it was almost over. This is the east bay commutes. It has been extra slow driving out of walnut creek to the remote area and the same thing goes trying to get off of 680 over to oakland using highway 124. Authorities are searching for the gun and ammunition stolen from a sheriffs deputy in San Francisco on friday. We have the headquarters in redwood city with more on the story. Reporter as you can imagine, this crime is very concerning to the San Mateo County Sheriffs Office. They are hoping that these weapons are recovered soon. The sergeant is also a member of the fbis joint Terrorism Task force and on friday, he was attending an fbi meeting up in San Francisco. When he returned to his parked car, he found that someone had broken in and stolen guns, ammunition and his official fbi jackets. At first, it is going to be a shotgun, a rifle, and the second firearm is a cold ar 4, black in color. There are also 40 bags containing 40 rounds each that were stolen. Reporter this is part of the radio call from San Francisco. About this breakin that happened at 10 00 on friday night on jones street. Authorities say a shotgun and rifle were stolen along with ammunition. Also taken from the car, a bulletproof vest and that fbi jacket. The San Mateo County sheriffs sergeant immediately reported this 2 San Francisco police and to his superiors, as well. We understand and were told that this is not the sergeants personal car. It is unclear if it is a sheriffs vehicle or what agency it may belong to. It is also unclear if those guns and equipment were secured inside the car which is required. And of course, guns stolen from Law Enforcement have been used in crimes a number of times in the bay area. A full investigation is underway and being headed up by the San Francisco Police Department, mike. We are curious to find out if those guns were locked away. The San Francisco police union is now taking the issue of arming officers with tasers. Narrowly approving the use of tasers for city Police Officers following a contentious seven hour meeting. Calling for officers with tasers by december 2018. The Police Officers association commands the commission for taking action but wants to speed up the process and that includes possibly putting a proposal on the june 2018 ballot for San Francisco. Our polling numbers indicate that over 78 of residents in San Francisco want officers to be equipped with the stateof theart equipment which is tasers. Tasers will reduce injury to the public, to the Police Officers and it will save lives. Activists and Police Critics have pushed back raising concerns of potential abuses and impacts. San francisco is one of the last not to have them. Late this morning, uber says the money will be used for Sexual Assault training groups.
