There are some new mandatory Evacuation Orders in northern Sonoma County for parts of the geyserville area and alexander valley. Bill martin is tracking the winds and red flag warnings. Reporter we are at the river rock casino. It is empty on a friday night. Part of that mandatory evacuation with fire nearby and winds uncertain. Better to evacuate people and to take chances the chaos of five nights ago. Getting out not happen fast enough. This is bodycam video from the night of the firestorm. One of the first of santa rosa neighborhoods incinerated. With little warning. Sergeant brandon was one of 15 Sheriff Deputies dashing door to door to get people out. Her eyes were red and burning from the smoke. The intensity was unbelievable. Reporter he knows evacuees are and see to go home. He wants them to realize how fast conditions can turn deadly. She said his car caught fire as he was driving to the flames. The video was way worse than what he had initially described. Im curious it looks like your hair is not blowing that much. The big concern is the wind. How bad is it . Reporter it has picked up but not strong. Occasionally we get a stronger breeze. I know there has been a lot of preparation for wind. A lot of lines have been laid. Defensively with bulldozers. Those lines soaked with retardant. So they really become dead zones for burning. They have done a lot of backfiring along the fires to eliminate vegetation. Hopefully that holds and pays off. Hundreds of people packed a Community Meeting and sonoma to hear from state and federal representatives. At the meeting congressman Mike Thompson told his constituents federal grants have been approved to help fire victims. Firefighters on the front lines are getting reinforcement from across the country. Every county and every city has cops and firefighters here it is very impressive. Every state imaginable has a mutual aid agreement with us. Cal fire said they are optimistic about their progress. They are concerned about the winds picking up tonight and making efforts more difficult for the weekend. To napa county where three wildfires are burning including some people have left the area and waves of First Responders continued to beat back the flames. The nuns fire was pretty active today with fire crews for multiple agencies working throughout the day using engines dozers hand crews and even aircraft. They cannot fly the aircraft at night. They are trying to get ahead of the high winds expected around midnight. There is no wind to speak of right now. It is a massive effort taking place throughout the entire region. We did talk with the fire crew from oakland who had been working around the clock. 92 hours straight. They were taking catnaps on the fire lines. Sleeping anywhere they could. With those red flag warnings come a big problem. We heard from a cal fire battalion chief. Another night when the winds kicked a. Several units from the jurisdictions are on the strike team were confronted with fastmoving flames. They created some hairy moments for everybody. Everyone had to take refuge in a structure. Since the event began five days ago there have been three different red flag warnings. Tonight fire crews telling me they are doing well and hoping the winds dont pick up and come down this hill. You look for indications. Look for what is happening in reading in the foothills. So far, the winds are running behind what was forecast. That is always a good time. This that means they are delayed . In my experience as these pressure systems it is a slow build. They will come on. It was supposed to be blowing 25 in napa. But it is not. They are three Miles Per Hour out of the north. My hope is that the forecast is being over forecast. 40 amount 40 mileperhour winds wont materialize. The winds they are worried about is the 35 or 40 and 45 and 50. Right now cut the indications are good. It is nine Miles Per Hour at his peak. That is nothing. The direction indicative of what the changes that are occurring in terms of direction. The humidity pretty good in mount diablo. They are almost 20 Miles Per Hour. I would expect them to be a 20. The next few hours the winds continued to come up. Right now im showing you the forecast. As we go through time you will see the sweet spot in terms of wind is going to be here. 5 am, 6 am, 7 am and then dying of the winds. It is looking favorable. A red flag warning. It is very dangerous. 40 or 50 i dont think so. 20 or 30 i think so. The long process of rebuilding and recovery is getting underway. Will be open daily 9 am until 7 pm for at least two weeks. Teams will be heading out to Evacuation Centers to offer information about federal aid for individuals affected by the fires. Lake county crews were making progress. The sulfur fire burning to the east of clear lake is 55 contained. It has burned 2500 acres. Orders have been lifted people have been allowed back to their homes. The sheriff told us today there is still concern about the strong winds in the forecast this weekend. Possibly fanning the flames. People on the silverado trail has started to return home to survey the damage and destruction. The alice fire broke out last sunday night sweeping through vineyards and several well known wineries. The official number of homes lost is not known. They estimate 100 homes were destroyed. Any of them worth millions of dollars. It is pretty devastating. To realize everything you have is gone. And not only your possessions but those possessions that have been bequeathed to you. The winery was one of the ones destroyed in the fire along silverado trail. The region is known for its cabernet sauvignon. Hayward interstate 880 shut down the Highway Patrol investigates a shooting on the freeway. It was reported 7 pm on northbound 880 the winton avenue exit. All the northbound lanes between a street and highway 238 are closed. Detectives looks for evidence. One person was hit by the gunfire. We dont know the persons condition. There is no word on a suspect vehicle. We want to give you a sign of how bad the backup is. You can see the backup and read. Those of the northbound lanes of aad. It appears that backup stretches at least a couple of miles 880. Today search the rubble of a Mobile Home Park and santa rosa. The effort underway to locate those who were unable to get out in time. The alameda Sheriffs Department flew drones over the coffee park neighborhood today. That area was essentially wiped off the map of the firestorm five days ago. The drones are collecting images to create 3d maps. They are looking for hotspots. We are able to use thermal imaging camera and get a temperature reading of the actual trailer themselves. So we can then know it is safe to send our search and rescue teams as well as canines. They will use the images to create maps of the damage and keep track of the areas they have searched. An important reminder. Civilians are not allowed to fly drones in the area because they dont want them to interfere with the firefighters. Recovery teams are doing the work of searching for additional victims who were unable to escape neighborhoods that burned to the ground. The fountain growth area of santa rosa crews found more remains today. Reporter earlier today recovery teams were at the journeys in Mobile Home Park of mendocino avenue and Fountain Grove parkway. The recovered some bones. The remains of one person found on a mattress in a bedroom. Is struck at nighttime when maybe this might when many people slept. That is where they are looking. There were two missing persons reports that the Mobile Home Park. Good news considering there were hundreds of people who escape. One set of remains has been found. No word on if they found remains of the second missing person. Authorities say they are struggling emotionally. We are all human. Everybody cares about this. It does impact us. We talked to them all the time. We are making sure they are okay with it. We take their feelings into account. It is hard to do this day after day. Reporter the remains found to date with that of 69 yearold linda tunis. She called her daughter sunday morning the fire was raging. The family search shelters and hospitals it was unable to locate her so they notified authorities. The Redwood Credit Union collected 2 million for fire victims. Donation to the Northbay Fire Relief Fund will go directly to those affected the fires. The credit union is paying for the cost allowing all of the money to go to victims and relief efforts. They held a donation drive collecting money and supplies. Matt martin with the credit union says they are working to make the money available to victims as soon as possible. We know there are people today that need help. People are providing that help. We are doing all we can to move as fast as we can to create that bridge of help and support. We are told the giving includes 200,000 donation to Young Children bringing in 10 from their piggy banks. If youre interested in donating to the Northbay Fire Relief Fund go to ktvu. Com. Anheuserbusch helping fire victims. Their company which has a brewery is sending 100,000 cans of Drinking Water to the northbay. The brewery was temporarily closed due to the air conditions. It was not damaged by fire. The red cross will distribute the water as soon as those cans of water arrived from georgia. Along with dealing with fires in the see note county had to deal with an earthquake. A threepoint nine earthquake hit a mile and a half northwest of redwood valley. It was felt all the way from fort bragg to red bluff. No reports of damage so far whether the earthquake affected firefighting efforts. One of the things we look at to determine what the winds are doing is the Pressure Gradient. The surface pressure. If you look at this map what you will see the surface high. You see the lions together. These three lines isobar spectacles of a get together and the more of them there are the stronger the wind is blowing. We are tracking the surface flow.
