The northbay disaster is the product of several fires burning in napa and Sonoma County. Some continued to burn tonight. The winds are not nearly as fierce as they were earlier. Here is the latest. 10 people are now confirmed dead from the fire sparked seven and Sonoma County. To from napa county one from Mendocino County. 1500 buildings have burned. That includes homes one school and several wineries. Authorities in santa rosa imposed a curfew. In effect until tomorrow morning. They are on the lookout for looters. We are learning more about some of the victims of the wildfires. The granddaughter of charles and sarah rippy said the couple unable to escape from their home on atlas creek road in napa county. A map of the largest fires burning in Northern California. They ares red across the region from the redwood fire and Mendocino County down to the Santa Rosa County and the atlas fire in napa county. In all 15 fires broke out across the state in the past that day. Earning more than 73,000 acres. We have live coverage how the devastation is heading very close to his home. Fountain grove hilton. It has been growing burning all day. It is a total loss. 265 room hotel on the north end of town. One of two level along with hundreds of homes. I want to know how many people have died and have been injured. Reporter the mayor says he needs to know more. How many structures have been lost. It is frustrating. Reporter numbers have to wait as fires burn. First responders are still helping evacuate people. With no containment on the fire that roared into santa rosa in the middle of the night. We are a resilient county. He will come back from this. We need to grieve. We will come back from this. We have seven confirmed deaths related to the fire. Reporter the sheriff does not know details of the fatalities. Where they were found and how they were trapped. He expects the numbers to rise as teams are able to get into the worst areas. There is no searching yet. There is a lot of burned homes and areas. It is logical we will find more people. And has been a horrific and terrifying night for a great many people. Reporter police chief says his officers were penned in by flames. Even fleeing their patrol cars. This in the Fountain Grove area. That was the site of some of the most harrowing rescues last night. On the radio officers were going in and reporting they were surrounded by flames. Only two houses are still here. There is gratitude at surviving for victims. The grief at losing so much. This is the trinity oaks neighborhood were home after home burned. I tried to help the neighbors but that was my mistake. I should have grabbed a bunch of my stuff. The water failed at 2 pm. Everything was gone. Reporter huge swaths of subdivisions and commercial buildings. Fire officials insisted it wasnt because they didnt see it coming and tried to muster the support they could. You can compare it to a natural disaster. Reporter cal fire said sometimes they catch them and sometimes they get caught. There was an even amount of resources dispatch to each of these incidents. When you have that many of them at that magnitude obviously you dont have enough for the size of the fires. My house is fine. Family is fine. My city is not. Reporter as it stands at least 5000 households are evacuated. They have no timetable on returning. It is way too dangerous. There have been some cases of looting at homes and businesses. In some of the evacuated neighborhoods. That is why the curfew is being enforced from dusk until dawn. A quick question. What are the winds like tonight . Reporter no wind. Although, remember the winds did not kick up until late. After 10 pm or midnight. That is when they became strong. Earlier in the evening people were not noticing it. They are not on the forecast. That is giving the crews a chance to make progress on the fire. To napa county the atlas fire burning in the hills above the Silverado Country Club destroyed dozens of homes. 25,000 acres have burned in the atlas fire. More than 25,000 acres have burned in the atlas peak fire so far. More than 125 homes have been lost. Those 2 deaths of the couple very tragic. Although the winds are not as strong as last night cal fire said there is still danger and a real possibility of more evacuations. Flames still burning from the atlas peak fire. Around napa county park the biggest challenge is the terrain and heavy fuels. The winds have stabilized. It will get cooler. You minutes he will rise. That will assist the firefighters. Many of the firefighters are working the fire lines have been here since yesterday. Reporter the fire burned silverado trails. It is claimed 2 lives. An elderly couple unable to escape overnight on atlas peak road. According to the granddaughter charles turned 100 years old. Was with his wife sarah rippy. Leaving the world together after celebrating their 75th anniversary. Flames still burning through the afternoon monday. Sent columns of smoke into the air just beyond Vineyards Napa county issued an evacuation advisory. Police going door to door and putting yellow tape around the areas they have searched. Company has been bought by clover farms. There was no livestock inside when the flames came down the ridge overnight. He remembers bringing his children and his wife to see ice cream being made and getting a free chocolate milk with the tour. It is a piece of history. Reporter they continue concentrating on protecting lives versus property. As the fire remains uncontained. People in areas under evacuation advisory should be prepared. Everyone should be prepared to leave if asked to do so. Reporter cal fire says there are 5000 structures that are still threatened tonight. Fremont might have issues in evacuation advisory not mandatory. They are looking at the perimeter to see where the danger zones might be. Helicopter crew members risk their lives to rescue dozens of victims in the middle of the night last night. The live music cut what you see is the tresses of the stage expert they had jimmy buffett. The google dolls. It was a great atmosphere. You see how quickly obviously people had to leave given giving you a clue as to how rapidly this fire hits. Sunday night everything was mellow. It was a beautiful evening just like the week. Explained to us how in the beginning you found out about this fire. Like so many others, you were getting ready to go to bed. And in for the night. It happened so fast. I was in bed. I did not know it was a fire. I got a call from a friend. He said im down at the country club. I see a fire i said i thought i smelled something. I went outside and turned around and faced north. There was a wall of fire. I told my girlfriend we have to get out now. I just got my keys a pair of jeans and some shoes. I think we have pictures of the remnants of your house. How did you find out . You havent been able to see the property yourself. Youre not letting anyone up at the top. A friend of mine that works for cal fire. They let him up there. He took some pictures of the house. That is the pictures i got back. There is nothing left. Reporter it is pretty devastating. How do you reconcile this . All of us who live in this area have friends and acquaintances dealing with the same thing. Are you in shock . On in shock. I hope everyone got out. If i would not have gotten the phone call it could have been different. The fire came, probably no more than five minutes after that its at the house. Reporter have you ever seen in he wins like this . It came so fast. That is one of the shocking aspects. How quickly it happened. You can see behind us. I remember the 81 fire. I was working at a gas station downtown. It wasnt the conditions like it was here. I just knew this thing was going to get blown out of control. It has been. They have closed the road that leads to atlas peak. A couple miles away. Were able to make our way past the roadblocks. Being native to napa. It is like nothing you have ever seen. There is nobody here except for one Security Guard. The damage to the mansion is minimal. A couple other things a lot of people have said today, saying that the spot which is across the street was totaled. That is not true. I talked to the Security Guard in charge here. It is basically unscathed. A lot of people talking about of the road at atlas peak, the winery fairly minimal damage to that. Contrary to some erroneous reports. I dont want to discount the fact that there are many homes straight of atlas peak here. That are gone. Basically vaporized. The situation is bleak very quiet. A place where it was just literally less than a day and a half ago teeming with festive activities. It is just a sad sight. At Silverado Country Club off of atlas peak right now. That is a scene that is being played out across the north bay. All across the bay area people can smell smoke is the fire has impacted air quality. The smoke caused breathing problems for some. People were worried it might be coming from close to home. Bay area schools and outdoor resources were suspended. Sports teams called off practices. We are making mass available for kids if they need extra support for airquality. When they are not feeling well we ask that they are headed home. Schools reported widespread absences. Those with respiratory problems the elderly and children should stay indoors. Keep those windows closed put airconditioners on recirculate so they dont breathe in dirty air. A Campus Police officer and a Texas University has been shot and killed allegedly by a student. At a Texas University. We are following developing news in texas. A Police Officer was shot and killed at texas tech. Allegedly by a student. Campus Police Responded to a call to a dorm room. They found evidence of drugs. The officers took a student into custody. While at the station in lubbock the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the officer in the head before running away. The student Hollis Daniels was captured a short time later. The identity of that slain officer has not been released. The chancellor expressed sadness at the shooting. He offered prayers for the fallen officers family. The family is strong and we will support each other as they grieve. Authorities in las vegas tried to figure out what led Stephen Paddock to open fire from his hotel room at the mandalay bay resort a week ago. He killed 58 people and injured nearly 500 others. Investigators today released new details and updated the timeline of events. We know he attempted to shoot up the fuel tanks. We know he had personal Protection Equipment in the room. We know the car that was in the parking garage still contained binary explosives. Those fuel tanks were next to the concert venue. Authorities also say it is believed he shot and wounded hotel Security Guard first several minutes before he started shooting at all the concertgoers below. It was initially believed the Security Guard might have interrupted him right in the middle of his rampage. Authorities say they still dont know why Stephen Paddock stop shooting and then killed himself. Mike pence is in sacramento as part of a fundraising trip to california. Just to come in here and see it now and see everything across the highway and high how far it goes. It is unimaginable. Reporter he returned for the first time to see what is left of his home on willow green place. It has been destroyed. He and his family were forced to evacuate 2 am on monday. He said he is in disbelief. We were like, we have to go now. This is all i have to. Reporter home after home burned. It burned a bright orange glow from the smoke. Nearby flames ravaged Cardinal Newman a catholic high school. It is an indescribable feeling. My last four years is burned to the ground. Reporter many buildings into their skeletons. Desk and chairs are mangled. Hotspots smoldered stubbornly. When i first saw it, i was heartbroken. Reporter Cheyenne Simmons graduated in june. She has a sister who is a freshman their father wonders what is next for hundreds of students who attend the school. Is going to be hard for the next year. There will be serious rebuilding that has to be done to accommodate new students. Reporter this homeowner says he read he will reveal. He cherishes the memories that were created in what was his familys home. I left this morning thinking i was going to come back to my house. I dont know why. Reporter he and his family are staying at a hotel. He says he is grateful they escaped with the no injuries. The wildfires forced the closure of schools in several different counties. All Public Schools in Sonoma County will be closed tomorrow. That includes Sonoma State University as well as santa rosa junior college. Schools in Napa Valley Unified School district will also remain closed tomorrow. Napa valley is known for its wineries. And a number of famous estates were destroyed or damaged by the wildfires. The silverado trail with that part of the story. Reporter this is still very much an active scene. You can see behind me the crews in an effort to keep the larger fire from spreading. We are just outside the city of silverado trail. We are beginning to assess the damage as far as the wineries are concerned. Your along this stretch of road there are about 15 wineries and half of them are either damaged or destroyed. Buildings at the winery along silverado trail continue to burn. The winery destroyed. There is quite a few of the wineries on the side that are gone. We dont know what else. Reporter a grower who supplied sindre welo with grapes from her property. Even the ones that were not burned by the fire most likely ruined. Most of the growers are writing off their grapes. With this amount of smoke the grapes absorbed the smoke flavor. There is no way to work with those grapes. Reporter the wineries known for their Cabernet Sauvignon devastated in a matter of hours. Down the road was severely damaged but along with william hill winery. The silverado resort which is hosted the final round of the pga tour open on sunday has evacuated all guess. The resort is still in tact. Homes east of the golf course burned to the ground. Tonight in napa residents watched with concern as a plume of smoke to the east grew larger. You look there there is a fire. Multiple directions. We are inside the bowl. Reporter you can see these backfires continue to burn on this hillside. Silverado trail remains close. If you residents have been allowed back into their homes including the grower we spoke to. She has no power or Water Service and no cell service. She is basically just camping at home. There is the personal impact of all of this and then the economic impact. That will be felt by a lot of people in the state of california. Is the magnitude of the fires becomes more apparent it is clear thousands of people are going to need help in the days and months ahead. How organizations are stepping out stepping up. Reporter they are showing no signs of letting up. Many people are asking how they can help the residence affected. There are many ways they can. We were talking to the red cross representative today. She said in general they get enough donations of food clothing. What they really could use our monetary donations. For pet owners and those who are displaced 50 animals have been admitted to shelters because of the napa fire. Anyone who has thought of adopting or volunteering the time is now. Thousands of people in the north bay remain under evacuation orders tonight. So far about 79,000 acres have burned. 10 people have been killed. That number is expected to go higher. As many as 44 rescued by from the flames by a chp Helicopter Rescue team. Authorities have been too busy to perform accurate damage assessments. At least 1500 homes and businesses have been destroyed. They do expect the death toll to rise. To discover more people were unable to escape the flames. It has been a heartbreaking day for so many families. Here are some of the emotional scenes captured in both napa and sonoma. Golfball sized amber coming down my street. It looked like something out of armageddon movies. I went knocking on doors and ringing bells. It came on quick. With these kind of fires it is unpredictable. You think you have five minutes. Next thing you dont have any minutes. We didnt have any time. There was really no evacuation. It was that fast. People had to get in their cars and go. It is just so scary. It is one of those things you never think what happened. This was my childhood home. It is unbelievable standing here looking at all of this ash. My bicycle and everything just completely gone. This is unreal. It is devastating. All i can say is it is devastating. I have my life and my wife and my kids. My neighbors house burned down but i saved mine. Im pretty thankful. Im just letting it sink in right now. It is not good. We bought all of the cases of water. They are low on supplies right now. This is a horrific fire. I would want someone to do it for me. We have the ability and the resources to do it. Have to pitch in and do what we can if we can. I have friends that have lost their homes already. This is very devastating. I am lucky. My house is fine. My family is fine. My city is not. It will take a long time for us to recover from what has happened today. Those are the faces and the people. Your neighbors and coworkers. Impacted by what has happened overnight in both napa and sonoma counties. The scope is unimaginable. So many people have lost their homes and businesses. This is going to take years to rebuild this area. Thats bring in bill martin. It is something when you think about. We were on last night. The atlas fire was 200 acres. The fire that started in calistoga and went down to santa rosa was small as well. It just exploded. This eight everybody i have talked to know somebody. Heather said i know someone who lost their home. That is to people in a room of four people. How many people have been touched by the story . This was huge. What happened last night with the winds. It was an urban wildfire. Something i have never seen. In Oakland Hills that was rural. What happened here, i illustrated this earlier. Here is the Fountain Grove area. I know the area pretty well. Fountain grove park weight goes like this. Runs downhill and it is a bit like a canyon. It is coming from the northeast. Which way with the winds blowing . 68 or 70 Miles Per Hour out of the northeast. They get funneled into this canyon. They get flying down here. Here is the hilton. Here is the coffee district over here. The winds come flying. This thing is a blowtorch. Not in a rural setting. Into an urban setting. Taco bell and pizza parlors. That is the most shocking things. What happened there is unprecedented. I dont think i have ever seen that in an urban setting in california or anywhere else. The kind of destruction. Look at the wind direction. They are coming out of the west. That is better. Nothing like last night. The red flag warning remains. Mainly for humidity and residue left over winds. 1520 Miles Per Hour. We talked about the Pressure Gradient. Last night it was 20 millibars. That is a lot. Tonight it is down to 7 from winnemucca to San Francisco. That means half the amount of the wind. 1015. Tomorrow that is your forecast. A better firefighting forecast. Almost everybody, people in the city mike kellys daughter said she has a cow and a horse at her house. Her friends had to evacuate. Everybody has a story. That is how big this is. It is affecting Cardinal NewmanHigh School Gets burned to the ground. That is a high school. It has been there forever. Where do those kids go . The situation tonight much better. Just know you remember this date in this year. You will remember this month and that last night. That was in Oakland Hills event. You talk about the loss of a bill of a building and landmarks. There are people employed the bear. So many people in the area have lost their homes. Look at the hilton hotel. It is big. It touches everybody. We all feel the same way. There is a situation in Mendocino County. That fire destroyed 175 the Fountain Grove saying, that is the thing that is most stunning because of the sheer destruction. These fires are still burning out of control. There could be more evacuations. It is still going to be a firefight but nothing like last night. We have more breaking news. Another fire in southern california. This is the canyon fire. It has forced the evacuation of thousands of homes in anaheim. Live pictures from kabc. 6000 acres burned. 24 structures destroyed including homes. Thousands of other homes are being threatened. At this point look at the massive fire. There is zero containment. At least one person has died and the Massive Wildfire in Mendocino County. To more people were seriously injured. This fire is about 10 miles north of the city of ukiah. It is burned 19,000 acres. Officials estimate 75 homes have been destroyed. Nearly the entire Redwood Valley is under a mandatory evacuation. Evacuated animals are being taken to the fairgrounds. It is hard. It is hard to live through these incidents and see people to get through it. Being here and making sure we have what people need.
