Police recover 17 guns there. Police also found more weapons and bomb making material at Stephen Paddocks retirement Home Northeast of las vegas. We retrieved in excess of 18 additional firearms. There was also some explosives, and several thousand rounds of ammunition along with some Electronic Devices that we are evaluating at this point. Reporter a s. W. A. T. Team was headed to Stephen Paddocks former home in reno. The fbi is discounting any links to a terrorist group. Speaking from florida, padlocks brother said the family is in shock. He described his brother as a multimillionaire investor who spent the money at casinos and never showed any sign of violence. Was he upset about politics or anything . Nothing. He had no religious affiliation or political affiliation. He just hung out. Reporter as they work to figure out the victims, they are all being treated. Our staff handled it very well, and triage patients were giving the appropriate care no matter where they was at. Investigators say that Stephen Paddock checked into the Mandalay Bay Hotel under his girlfriends name. She is traveling in asia, and apparently had nothing to do with this. At least two Gun Shop Owners who so weapons to Stephen Paddock said he passed all background checks and that there was no red flags. There are a number of vigils, prayer services, and fundraisers being held across las vegas. We have a reporter just outside of city hall. Reporter this vigil was kind of still ongoing. It is officially over, but a lot of people just do not want to leave. They are singing now as there is several dozen people still gathered in a circle and singing hymns and so on and trying to heal from what happened here last night. Earlier, we had the mayor and other local peoples peaking about the response, and now we are having this heartfelt impromptu moment. We want to show you some pictures from just about one hour ago. There was a candlelight ceremony where candles were spread out among the crowd here. A lot of the people who are living here in las vegas will have to live with this as the city struggles to move forward and recover. One of the speakers was a pastor, and he spoke about what happened and the tragedy here in las vegas. Evil showed his face last night, but love is showing his face this morning. We are crying out that you will move in such a way in every hospital room and with all of the family members that are flying in to be with loved ones. Also, our hearts are torched by the people who are having to identify bodies of loved ones. Reporter that pretty much sums up the mood and the feeling here. I just spoke with a woman a short time ago who is walking to hear and carrying a puppy in her arms and said that this puppy gives her a lot of comfort during these difficult times. She said she knew some people who are at the concert last night, and is grateful and thankful that none of them are injured, but they are going to be carrying the trauma that happened with them the rest of their life. They said they had to in some cases, step over people who are bloody and down, and who may not have ever gotten up again. You flew in at the airport which is essentially across the street from the Mandalay Bay Hotel. Was a lie driving in from the airport to city hall . Reporter the interesting thing is that we were in a vehicle most of the time. No one said a word or anything about it. But, what happened here which was different about what we was reporting last night, and people said that was all that everybody was talking about. I think there is a little bit of numbness that is setting in here. People are still trying to wrap their heads around what is happening here. On the plane into oakland, no one said anything at all. As we drove down here to city hall, which is close to downtown, the only sign that we saw of anything that had happened, it was a big sign on the mark a outside of mandalay bay that said our prayers are with the victims and our hearts are with the first responders. That was a very simple black and white message on a giant billboard that is usually promoting big musical acts. We all know las vegas and that famous strip that is usually packed with people and activity. We know that a lot of it is closed off as investigators scoured the crime scene. Are you hearing when any part of that strip will reopen . Reporter when we drove down on the freeway julie, there was signs on the exit ramps that said you cannot get on the strip in various spots. We were running parallel to the strip on the freeway, so we were not actually on the strip because we had to get downtown as soon as we could. We are going to head back out there tonight and certainly but 10 00 p. M. , i will be able to give you an idea about what is going on on the strip and mandalay bay. I dont know whether you have heard this, but i have heard that some of the hotels are offering free rooms for relatives of the victims . I have not yet heard that, but that does not surprise me. The sense of generosity and outpouring from this community has really been tremendous. The morning who the woman who said she was holding the puppy said she had to stand in line for six hours to donate blood. She said the city is almost overwhelmed with volunteers from the local community and that Everyone Wants to do something to help. So the idea that hotels would open up their doors to assist the families of loved ones does not surprise me in the least. Are you hearing stories of heartbreak that are pouring out of this scene . We are hearing heartbreaking stories of people who have not been able to get in touch of their loved ones, and people who lost their way in the mad stampede to get out of there. There is also people who are still unaccounted for. Anyone there who you have talked to said they just do not know where their loved one is at this hour . Reporter we are waiting for the brother of Vinnie Etcheber to get here. After the shooting, he was attending to someone who was shot and told his wife and another couple that was with them that they should go for their safety. So they flat at that time. We believe that was when a second burst of gunfire may have occurred, and in the chaos, he lost his wife, and still has not been able to find her. He has been going hospital to hospital to try and locate her, and he cannot find her. His brother is driving from the bay area right now, and is expected to be here in las vegas at about 6 30 pm. So in about 20 minutes, we are going to try and connect with them and find out if they have made any progress in locating her. She had left her cell phone in the hotel room and left her idea with her husband. So nobody can reach her. You would think that if she was okay, she would have now at least bald someones phone or something, and contacted at least borrowed someones phone or something and contacted someone. So, there is a desperate search underway to try and find this woman from nevada. We are going to have more on this story later as well. More from you later ken this evening. Thank you so much. We are just starting to learn the names of some of the victims killed in las vegas. One of them was a male nurse from tennessee. It is reported that sonny melton died shielding his wife from gunfire. His wife grew up in this area, and she is in complete disbelief tonight. The meltons were in las vegas celebrating their first wedding anniversary. A young man from canada is also identified as one of those that was killed. He was just 21 a few days away from his 21st birthday. At least three of the victims were from southern california. Sandy casey was a special Education Teacher at manhattan middle school. They are providing canceling to staff and students there. Another teacher, susan smith, worked at this Elementary School for 16 years. And Rachel Parker worked at the Police Department and will be sorely missed. Reporter it is going well. I am going to take you over this way first because i want you to see the activity that is going on here. This has been going on for hours and hours. How many people have you processed here for blood and how long has some people waited line . I have talked to some people who have waited in line since 9 00 this morning. The next in line who are eligible to come in have been here quite a long time. Unfortunately we are having a little difficulty. They stay until we are done. Reporter the bottom line here is that you have hundreds of people. We have about 700 to 800 people coming here. We stopped taking names at around 400 people, because we knew that we could not finish all of them. Some of them left and some of them stayed, but the weight is at least three or four hours or more. Portland reporter the bottom line here is that when bad things happen to good people, other good people will step forward. I want to show you this. Authorities say today that they found 16 guns inside of the hotel room in las vegas, and at least one of them had been modified. Sources are telling the Associated Press that he had two devices called bum socks that make a semi automatic weapon become fully automatic. The suspected gunman might have used other modifications to allow him to fire the weapons faster. The issue of gun control came up in the press meeting and Huckabee Sanders said it is not the time for a debate on gun control. But this guardsman said it is time for congressman to get up and get going. What would you like to see done congresswoman . When is there a good time to talk about gun safety legislation. The only time we seemed to give it a passing glance is when some tragedy comes upon a number of americans whether it is children in school or the concertgoers in las vegas. I think at the very least we have to get serious about assault weapons. It appears now that the killer also modified the guns. So, even though automatic weapons are not allowed in this country, the machine guns are outlawed except for those that existed before 1986. But, if you can modify these guns, then we have not achieved our goal. We all can see the carnage that occurs when someone can modify a gun that can mow down hundreds of people. Tell us about a boat. Is a vote coming up in the house about gun suppressors or silencers . This is the ultimate fantasy dream of the nra. They jumped on these two bills for the last five or 10 years. Among them is a provision that would no longer restrict what are called silencers or noise suppressors. It would also make the registry that does exist in the country be shredded. If a state has a law that prohibits silencers, then that would be handled separately. It is weakening the rules that are on the books on the federal level. Beyond that, it is going to say if you have a gun and you have the right to carry a concealed weapon, then you can come into a state like california where you have to have a permit to carry, then you can carry even if california has not lighted you to do that. Also, we have put a ban on armor piercing bullets because we did not want Law Enforcement officers who were wearing bulletproof armor to have these kind of bullets be able to penetrate parker now, the nra wants to loosen the rules on that, and also allow lead shot to be used with animals. And of course, that becomes a environmental problem as well. A lot of the things that have been on the books, they want to undo. Far be it that we would close any loopholes in the existing laws about background checks. If you are a felon or someone who has committed Domestic Violence or are mentally unstable, you cannot buy a gun here, but you can buy a gun online or by a gun from another party where there is no background check. Congresswoman, let me take the flipside for a second. There are 300 million guns in the United States and almost one gun for every person in the country. California has some of the toughest laws in the country and so i would like to ask would gun control have saved these people in las vegas . That is a question that we will not be able to answer for some time, but the fact that he was able to adapt these guns is a problem. We have a lot of gun manufacturers out there who create these adapters to make these guns automatic weapons. They should not be allowed to do that. I am not about to say that these peoples lives could have been saved if there was a deranged person out there who wants to mow down people. But, we can certainly restrict the access that make guns so lethal to where they are weapons of war. Just quickly, just a final thought, what happened in las vegas is so frightening on so many levels. It just created so much fear throughout the country, and are we getting to the point where we are getting desensitize to all of this . Is this the new normal . The last thing i want to hear is that maybe it is the new normal. I will tell you that congress is desensitize to these cases. We continue to have these moments of silence on the floor, and i will not participate in them anymore. They only want to do it when they are headlines about them. Mass shootings go on everyday in this country, and they are never on the front pages, and they happen every day.
