Tackling global warming, we have a web series that talks about using humor to get people thinking about those important issues. The legendary rock n roll magazine that started in San Francisco is now for sale. Up next we will talk to one of the former editors of rollings done. We will get to the back story on this deal. 50yearold music and counterculture magazine, Rolling Stone, is up for sale. The future looks tough for the familyrun publication. Is started back in 1967 in San Francisco. That was when he was a student in berkeley. He runs the magazine with his son. For mourn all of this we are joined by the columnist and editor been, many didnt see this coming, did you . Oh yes. He sold almost half of Rolling Stone a while ago to a music and technology company. It has been said, he has tried to sell it before. Now the time has come, where its the 50th anniversary. He is finishing celebrations of that. They are just about to begin. It was just about 50 years ago that they put out the first issue in San Francisco, in october. It is a long time coming. I think he is tired. He has had some health considerations. He has had some financial setbacks. He has his son in place to take over. If the new owners, want to keep them on. Its about the right time for it. I do not want to date both of us. I remember back in the 70s when i was a teenager, i could not wait to get my subscription issue of Rolling Stone. You i would read your stories about music and politics. It seemed to be the bible for a lot of us when we were growing up in that time. It has not really changed a whole lot, has it . Tell me what Rolling Stone is like for us who have not picked up a copy lately. Rolling stone has changed over the year. The world has changed, media has changed. With technology, there are so many more choices and competition for Rolling Stone. It has changed. The weird thing about it is it is seen as a rock magazine. It began as a rock and other things. It always embraced the various aspects of life and lifestyles that surrounded the culture and counterculture. One thing about Rolling Stone that was amazing, through all of the years and competition, it maintained itself. It got into the main industry and became the go to place for coverage of music and entertainment. It was also involved in politics and other things. So, he lasted 50 years. He may go more. Who knows. What does the future of Rolling Stone, whether get sold or not . It depends on the buyer. If the buyer comes along, and they approve of that. It depends on what the buyer wants to do. It may leave the magazine in the hands of the current staff, including his son. Or, they can do an overhaul of it. New ownership can do that. They often do that. It is up in the air. Would you want to have any part in any Rolling Stone . I am older than jan winter. I have other projects going on. I feel like mike colom is in the chronicle. Im doing a radio project. I am a pretty happy guy. I know. I have been to your house. You have a great house. Thank you very much, ben. Back in the day, they had a song called the cover of the Rolling Stone. It was such a big deal to be on Rolling Stone. They made a hit record out of it. The issue, we have a new web series, takes a comedic look at the displacement of longtime oakland raiders. There hoping that it will shed light on a very serious issue. This is an incredibly rare sight these days. The series is called the north pole likens africans and africanamericans to polar bears. Africanamericans in oakland are being priced out of their homes and businesses and being forced to leave. It felt like the culture of the neighborhood was changing. Like the climate was changing. For me, that hit home. The idea of the north pole, and the local Community Feeling like an endangered species in your own environment. According to census figures, 19 8047 of oaklands population was africanamerican. In the latest census in 2010 showed that number had dropped to 28 . Thats just more than a quarter. Many feel the africanamerican population is even smaller now. The north pole skewers some of the newcomers to oakland. They bring their case to the cities along known for its diversity, arts, and culture. The series follows Three Friends as they try to stay rooted in oakland. Newcomers are trying to get in on what is all of a sudden the place to live. I grew up in the laurel. They are calling it the laurel. She says it is frustrating to see changes. There are improvements happening only after many of the minority residents have moved out. Its nice to go to downtown oakland now that theres is mrs. Why did it have to happen at this time . Why couldnt have happened while we were all here the creator of the plea for everyone new to oakland. And get to know the environment and the city. To get to know the culture and the people. This is oakland. This is the city of black panthers. This is hells angels, this is ricky hendrix. This is a city with history. With about 7000 people moving to oakland in just the past year, one wonders, how many of them could pass this test . Can you use one of these words in a sentence. The first season of the north pole was just released last week. It was financed by a kick starter campaign. It is totally free to watch. You will find it on www. Ktvu. Com. The creator says he is at work on season two. Reporting live, fox2. Up next, look at how San Francisco police racked up a bill of more than 700,000 securing rallies around the city. My shoulders carry some i deserve others i dont but in the end only one name really matters because shoulders were made for greatness, not dandruff the costs are starting to pile up here to keep the peace, one a conservative comes to the bay area. We told you about uc berkeley. It has collected 600,000 when ben shapiros book on campus. At San Francisco, they spent 75,000 to make sure its entire force was mobilized during last months plan protest called patriot prayer. For more on these increasing security costs, im joined by the columnist. Protecting free speech, not so free . If i was in berkeley or San Francisco, is this the new norm . Its been pretty obvious, the protesters have outnumbered the police. They had to get a handle on this. I think when people saw the riots in february, and the police stood by and watched them throws buriers of the glasses of fourth. That sent a shockwave through law enforcement. People had to think, oh my goodness, are we going to let this thing go . And this is the alternative. Having a massive force, tons of overtime, people out there the entire time. That will cost us some real money. You mentioned at this new norm. That was something i was going to ask. Our universities and cities supposed to accept this, and except that this is how you will deal with divisive speakers . Mayor lee had asked for a refund with the government. This is what we need to see. To see an overall comprehensive plan. To start with what were talking about, with the prayer rally, San Francisco asked the park service not to give a permit to those people. They knew there would be trouble. At the Park Service Just passed it on. We have free speech. We have to go ahead and do it. There is a bigger issue and that. These are people, both sides that are very active. Of violence is becoming the standard. We need a comprehensive plan that goes beyond city by city approaches. It needs to be statewide. When you are talking about the issue that happened in San Francisco, and you had federal officials saying, we will give the okay here. It falls on local municipalities to secure it, it becomes an issue. Do you start denying the permits . Do you start turning people away . What will be the basis for turning those groups away . That is the thing. The city is in a situation where they have spent the money. They will get a certain amount of abuse for spending the money. Whats the alternative . The alternative is what we have seen in some of the protest. The streets are not safe. There taking over a public space. Thats a terrible thing. I think each city, they want to make a decision on their own. That will be a tough sell. We need to see. We could go along with the idea, if you can make a convincing case that there is going to be violence at this rally, that a permit should not be allowed. At that point, they are in violation of the law. I think thats what is going to have to happen. We cannot allow the streets to be taken over. Theres much more to be debated. We have free speech week that is expected to happen on the cal campus coming up. Its always a pleasure, thank you. First day of fall is friday. It is starting to feel like it. The equinox is just around the corner. We have temperatures that are mild. We had a lot of heat in the last month or so. We had a record heat. Temperatures today are in the 70s. That is a very fall like a feel to the atmosphere. The humidity is gone. That sticky maginnis is gone. As you look outside, you can see all this force a building and compared to everything else. You do not see the fog. But you will see the clouds overhead. Those are serious clouds way up here. That is out in front of this weather system right here. This is all highlevel clouds. You see how easily it moves overland. The topography is not dragging it. The force of friction is not affecting it because its up around 20,000 feet. That system right there is bringing rain to portland and seattle. It will bring us continued mild weather tomorrow. Then, on wednesday, there is one behind that as well. We will continue with the week weather systems as they go through the north. And that brings in the high pressure. That brings us closer to our rain event. If this was a one month down the road, we would be calling for rain on wednesday. I will show you this next system. It will bring a little drizzle. It still just a bit too far north to produce for us. Here are the current temperatures. We had 78 in napa. San francisco, tomorrow morning, there is a cloud cover. Here are the high cirrus clouds. You see how they move in opposite directions. Down below, this is your stratus and fog. We have fair skies and breezy. San francisco 167 for a high tomorrow. This is tomorrow afternoon right here. This is the chance. I want you to see it all the way through wednesday. It is just a sprinkle. This is coming from and extratropical low. If this was a month down the road, this would bring rain. It will clear out as we head into wednesday afternoon. I just thought i would show to you. It marks the change of seasons. The other stuff we saw, that other rain, that was tropical in origin. That is not atypical. They are very different. One is extratropical, the other is subtropical. Of the next one we will see is going to be extratropical. It should be cooler. I would not be surprised if you got some snowflakes. It would have to be above 7200 feet. The five day forecast, here it is. No big changes in here. It will stay in the 70s and low 80s right into the bay area weekend. We can lay out the fire danger a little bit. I do not have to be preaching today. It is always dangerous. Will probably have some snow and echo summit. All right. Thank you bill. Were going to look at the stories we are working on the stories for ktvu.
