The highway because two lanes are open, lanes three and four are open but lanes one and two are closed which is why the traffic is dragging along. They hoped to have it cleared by noon but that is not happening because one of the semi trucks involved in the accident had a full load. They tried to drag it but that was not working. They literally have to take everything out of the truck, and we have another truck waiting to take on that freight but it is taking a long time. This crash happened several hours ago, at 4 am with these large semi trucks blocking three westbound lanes in the Castro Valley causing the three hour delay for many drivers. Chp has confirmed this was a fatal accident. The driver of the second semi truck was killed. At 4 20 am we had a three vehicle collision involving two big rigs, and an earlier car. The big rig clipped the front of the first big rig causing it to lose its steering. It came to rest in the three lane, and then the second big rig had come along and it did no the vehicle was stopped and it hit the rear end. Reporter the tow trucks were on the scene earlier but that complicated the cleanup for this semi truck that is fully loaded. They are unloading it on the separate waiting semi truck. Hazmat also had to clean up the oil spill and they redirected the traffic and from there the cars to get back on the highway. By 9 00 chp did open one lane which alleviated some of the traffic problems. We have had traffic issues all over the spaded this particular accident with other roads becoming more congested. We are off of the Dublin Canyon road, and we see much more traffic than it would normally have in a day. We do not have the time from chp, and they said at this point they cannot give us the time because they are trying to unload the freight in order to move the semi truck. That is leigh martinez, and thank you. The incredible backup we have been saying all morning long on westbound 580, and you can see the backup extending through dublin back into livermore and that is with two lanes open. Obviously people are finding alternate routes and one of those alternate routes is highway 24. You can see this Ripple Effect it is having, heavy traffic on westbound 24 out of the walnut creek area as they try to get around the accident, but obviously taking 24 you have a lot of company.
