Reporter frank now according to east bay mud the reason why that only affects Alameda Point is because the naval infrastructure officials have been handing out bottled water. This after it was determined the water in the system was undrinkable. We decided to essentially have everyone seize using the water for drinking, consumption and for you know use for showering and bathing until we can pinpoint the problem. Reporter east bay mud says alameda owns the system which dates back to the 1930s. The water system has failed to maintain the water. This all came after a complaint last night about the taste and odor of the water. From there the district began running tests and said it was possible water from an outside source could be in the system. The profile of the water is were flushing the water out of the system which is improving things. Reporter out of a abundance of precaution they decided to ask people to stop using the system. How long. My kids have been drinking the water, using the water, cooking in the water. Whats the long term effects. Have they been knowing this for a week or just today. They found high mineral content which is not consistent with east bay mud water elsewhere in their jurisdiction. Tonight city leaders in berkeley voted to arm Police Officers with pepper spray ahead of a potential protest this week. Conservative ben shapiro is scheduled to deliver a speech at cal on thursday to an expected crowd of 1,000 people. At a heated meeting today the city Council Voted 63 to allow police to use pepper spray. But only to specifically target violent individuals who may show up. Back in february, violence broke out at uc berkeley when milo unopolis was expected to speak. President trumps former chief strategist is now scheduled to speak during the final day of the free speech event on the cal campus. But uc berkeley Officials Say hasnt satisfied a number of measures to hold the speech. The resolution now goes to president trump. Supervie sor malia cohen says the citys 35 medical cannabis dispensaries could be among the first to apply for permits to sell recreational marijuana. San mateo county is pushing for state law making it illegal to text while crossing the street. The county board of supervisors passed a resolution urging the state legislature to adopt a law similar to one just passed in hawaii. That law makes it illegal to look at an Electronic Device while in a crosswalk. There are exceptions though to that law in hawaii, you can talk on the phone because that doesnt require looking down.
