You remember the First Responders who went up and risk their lives and the First Responders who dies. The men and women who signed up to serve our country who werent in the mlt and risk their lives. Running in when everyone was running out. Mark cut tis and pam cook were the anchors. They broke off for a while. We realized how serious it was. We just want to fox and we stayed with the national coverage. I sat there days thinking, whats next. Is San Francisco next . The certainty. Fear and uncertainty. [ bells ringing ] a moment of silence in new york city to remember the people who died when two plane crashed into the towers. The moment of silence was followed by the reading of the names of those who were killed that day. President trump and first lady led a moment of silence. A bell rang at 8 46 eastern time the exact moment the first plane hit the first tower of the World Trade Center. At the pentagon this morning the names were ed read of the 184 People Killed went the flight crashed into the building there. President trump spoke at the ceremony calling the attack worse than pearl harbor because civilians were targeted. For the families on this anniversary we know not a single day goes by when you dont think about the loved ones stolen from your life. Our entire nation grieves with you. With every of family those 2,977 innocent souls who were murdered by terrorist 16 years ago. Vice president pence visited pennsylvania. Passengers on board which was headed to San Francisco fought to regain control from the hijackers. The plane crashed killing all 44 people. The plane intended target was the u. S. Capitol building. Every year on this solemn anniversary they hold a tribute to the people that lost their lives that day. At fire house seven for todays remembrance there. Reporter when the World Trade Center towers were burning firefighters were climbing thousands of flights of stairs. Today firefighters took turns reading the names of the First Responders who died trying to rescue people. 412 emergency workers including more than 300 firefighters lost their lives. The first plane hit the tower. The Fire Department rolled out the engines into the driveway. The lieutenant says many new firefighters of the force were just children during the september 11th attacks. When you look at our newer employees you cant help to think that these employees were 10 years old if that during september 11th. Talking to some of them throughout their short career. September 11th is one of the factors that led them to become a public servant. To mark the moment the bell rang three times to signify the last alarm. Killed nearly 3,000 people and injured more than 6,000. The flag is going to be flying half staff all day today to remember those who lost their lives on that day. Lee martinez, fox 2 news. We mentioned Hurricane Irma now a Tropical Storm as it moves across florida into georgia. Joining us from orlando where people are still without power. Rescue operations underway right now . There are all over the state. Here in orlando First Responders trying to see what damage there is. As the sun has come up here, of course, everyone assessing what kind of damage irma brought in Hurricane Irma is now Tropical Storm irma. It passed over floridas gulf coast overnight bringing major flooding. Local officials are amping up their recovery operations with serious threats remaining in tampa and jacksonville. Put what represents a white flag somewhere in your house that can be viewed visible outside. Residents without power almost 60 of the state. It will take weeks to fully restore service and in some areas it is still too dangerous to assess the damage. We dont have a comprehensive insight of what the damage is. Reporter thousands remain in shelters here in florida and in the hard hit florida keys. Anxious residents who stayed behind now waiting for the chance to return to their homes and see what is left. We dont know what to expect. Reporter forecasters say irma will continue to weaken as it moves north. It will continue to pose a risk to georgia, alabama, and tennessee over the next 48 hours. In the handle of florida as you know, there is about 14 task forces from up and down through florida. Can you tell me chief, from the pictures we are seeing, this seems to be a wind event. Harvey we saw massive street flooding in houston. Talk about how your crews are approaching irma rescue and relief differently . When we were involved in harvey it was just a water rescue team. This is a full task force. It is 80 personnel, we have everything from dog to drones, to doctors to much larger rescue teams and search teams. For a wind event it is a more ground base support. That is at the end of the day they are going to be doing is just the locals. They will be brought in and selfcontained for seven days and they can do all those large area searchs of multiple structures that need to be done in certain communities. Chief, you have been doing this for a long time. Your team is one of the pioneer teams. I always ask you this. I like hearing what you learned over the years and how you can help people more nowadays than you could when you first started. Sal, ive been here since the beginning. We begin a team and we were dumpster diving for old gear. It is tough to not be there. It is good to see what has come about. We are in a 26,000 square foot warehouse, 80 people. It is amazing how big this has gotten. How much capability. All the partnerships we have with civilians. It can work in a modular format or it can work in a small little team. I was happy to hear that the storm has been down graded. Irma is no longing existing but the effects will making a few impact. I can tell you from having been in florida friday night and travelling down the state since yesterday morning when there were torrential rains and lifethreatening winds topping at 100 Miles Per Hour. There has been a dramatic transformation in the state. It is a good thing people paid attention to the warning. Florida took a strong blow but came through it. All Things Considered relatively well. Dozens of life lost. But they were talking about catastrophic death and destruction. For the most part that has not happened here in florida. Phil, you talked about restoring power. I know we have pg e crews helping the power crews in florida. Just today are you starting to see trucks lining out there to put together some power on those power lines . Reporter well, we have seen trucks pouring in florida all over the country, california, of course from the past several days. You can see the we are northern orlando which so far for the most part has not lost power. There are hundreds of thousands of people in this area and millions across the state. They want to remind people that it is still dangerous with power line down, with trees blocking roads just because the storm has passed dont rushing back to your neighborhood and risk getting hurt. It is stuff, there is a curfew until 6 00 p. M. I have a hard time thinking they wont revise that. Is there a rescue or a search and rescue aspect to this storm where you are or not . We are told that an Apartment Building had several dozen people evacuating because of flooding. There have been reports of flooding and rescues in some of the outlying areas in orlando.
