In florida fewer than half the homes are covered by flood insurance. Of course, here in california we are encouraged to have earthquake insurance. We have been asking you if you have been doing that in the ktvu question of the day. How prepared are you . 7 say you retro fitted your home, 80 of you say you have done nothing. A lot of people saying i would like to but it is too darn expensive. It should be made more affordable. Im with you on that one. Why is it so expensive, our level of preparedness. Thanks for joining us, glen. Thanks for having me. Is it true that 10 of homes in california have earthquake insurance . It is true. We read about the 8. 1 magnitude earthquake. We are going to have our own Hurricane Harvey only it is going to come in form of earthquake without warning. Why is it so expensive . The payment is about 2,000 a year for San Francisco and alameda counties. Earthquake insurance costs what the risks require it to cost. The cost is just a message how risky this potential event could be. California earthquake is not for profit we have lowered our rates since we were created 20 years ago. California set up this Insurance Company, we made rates a lot more affordable and flexible. Most folks havent checked us out lately. They will see it is a lot less expensive than they thought. They need to focused on the fact they are completely on their own. If we had an earthquake in the bay area strong to similar the one in mexico and Central America saw an 8. 1. Is there an assumption that the federal government is in the money giving business. Fema does a great job, they will help out. Is there an assumption they will help me out . That is an assumption. It is false hope and it is dangerous. There is federal assistance. It is in the form of first response. It doesnt rebuild homes. So hundreds f of thousands of people are faced with the harsh reality they dont have flood insurance. Think of the dreams that get washed away in a flood. Thats all gone. You have no Insurance Protection to rebuild. Thats why it is so important you need to focus here in california that earthquake is not covered in the homeowner policy. Not for profit Insurance Company has these flexible and more affordable rates. You need to give it another look. Im not going to buy the insurance but im going to retrofit. It will make your home safer. If you live in an older home and get it retrofitted you are more likely to survive the earthquake. It will increase your odds of not getting seriously injured. Retrofitted is very important. There are many that were strengthen. We need to do everything we can to get those homes retrofitted. You can lower the policy up to 20 . Once we retro fitted we were out of money. We wanted to get something we could hold for the money we were able to invest. Im sorry. Retro fitting is great you priced a lot of people out of the whole equation. Go to the web site and see. It is much flexible and affordable. You retrofit your home you can lower the cost of 20 . You worry about being out of money which is an important thing to worry about. It is just it is important to take steps to be prepared. People just shouldnt assume. They are in the drivers seat to make the choices or get the preyum they can afford it. It is worth peeking at. Thanks for taking the time. Thanks so much. We do get letters take a second look. So we keep looking like i said we wanted a sure thing. Lets check in with rosemary who is joining us. People in south florida, really the whole state worried about flooding. It is very worrisome. Today will be the coolest day of the next few days. Take a look at the cloud cover. It will back off. Mostly sunny skies. This system off the coast is going to continue to be with us so to speak. It is going to move south and then it will move inland and in the extended forecast you could see bring us a little bit of rain. Lets talk about your friday here. Mostly sunny skies a ways from the coastline today. Temperatures are going to be warming into the upper 80s for our warmer locations. Mid70s expected. 70 degrees for your afternoon high. As we get into monday tuesday we will cool it back down and maybe see what we saw yesterday with drizzle and scattered showers. It feels like fall all of a sudden. The warm up and the cool down. Thank you, rosemary. This morning we are following the case of a veteran fire captain who is facing charges of child porn. Hundreds of images were found in his personal laptop. He wore a yellow jail jumpsuit to face two felony charges possessing and distributing child porn. He said the children and the images are victims and extremely damaged. The images in this crime are young as the age of 12 and toddlers as well. This is someone in our community downloading this and copying this. Reporter he was arrested wednesday night at his home in lafayette. This is a picture from his linkedin page. A county Internet Crime task force launched an investigation. Investigators had search warrants at his home and the fire station where he worked in oakland. The fire station is right across the street from the family justice center. It creates more of a market and we need to stop this to protect our children in our communities. He has been placed in administrative leave. If the allegations are true, this criminal behavior violates our Community Standard of decency. Henry joining us live in the studio. Charged with sharing more than 600 images. That is one of the primary reasons the judge ruled on the request to be released from his attorney but not to release him. Was it the amount of images . We have images of these children who are themselves often victims of abuse and other things. Of the images, did you learn anything in regards are these children that he knows . We dont think he actually victimized these children. They are children that are less than 12 and some of toddlers. Talk to me about the laptop. I know they searched his home in lafayette. Talk to me about what they had been found on. He would bring it to work and probably bring it to home as well. He is accused of sending 200 images to an undercover deputy. They go after a lot of people that have had these child porn images. We saw the response from the interim chief. Did you get any mood from other firefighters . We dont want any bad apples. One person does not represent the entire organization. They are as concerned as the fire chief. Very disturbing. Thank you, henry. A new documentary release. The man in the red bandana and the lives he saved while giving his own. A look at some of the Transit Agency as muni celebrates 100 years of service. Food. Water. Internet. We need it to live. But what we dont need are surprises, like extra monthly fees. I see you, fee, played by legendary actress anjelica huston. You got me, mark. We just want fast internet for one, simple rate. For all the streaming and the shopping and the newsing, but most of all. For the this. Internet for one everyday simple price and no extra monthly fees. This week is the 100 anniversary of muni bus services. Very cool. Sal joining us at one of the muni yards. I remember one of the first muni i got on. Reporter you know the first bus i took was probably the 14 mission. I didnt graduate until much later. The president of the Market Street railway. You are a Historical Organization who tries to keep munis history. We support them most streetcars and cable cars. This year we are celebrating the muni bus. The muni bus, i want to show this as we are talking here. I know that some of these buses still run in service from time to time. You have to keep them moving to keep them restored. Now that we see how beautiful they clean up, we are hoping they go out a little more often. Today several of these buses that you see now are going to be out on the seven line. Reporter so what does it take to keep these buses . Not only do you have to keep them but you also have to get parts for these old vehicles. How hard is that . If you look at that the oldest bus. We found a similar bus in the santa cruz mountain. We towed it up here. He paid to have it come up and you know, we took the engine out of that bus to put in this bus. We are always looking for parts and looking something to help muni to do their job. Mike, one of our anchors we were reminiscing one of the first bus. One of the 11 i road was that 49er bus. Im not sure we are showing it here. We are showing it. That bus used to go to candlestick. We all have this memory growing up in San Francisco. When people see these vehicles what do they tell you . It is a little bit of a Twilight Zone experience. It is a shock of recognition that they didnt expect to see. I think we are masters at preserving our past and bring these vehicles on the street. I think it delights old time San Francisco yans and new arrivals. Reporter one of the things i learned, i know muni has a policy wherever they get rid of a fleet of buses they will hold one back. One of those buses will be held so that 30 years from now that one can run as a historic vehicle. We think that is a great policy. Storage is always and issue in San Francisco but it is worthwhile. Future generations will have the same memories of some of these buses we had. Reporter if you are a bus geek, and i am admitting i am a bus geek.
