This family made the drive to ocean beach in San Francisco today. The kids splashed around in the surf but they did not venture too far out. We could not go any further than this, we are trying to be as safe as possible. They were worried i would get pulled into the waves. Reporter already this holiday weekend, at least a dozen people have been rescued at ocean beach after getting into trouble in the water. Sunday, this father and son were pulled out by a rip current and swimmers had to come in to help them get back to shore. Its a reminder of how dangerous the water could be. We want to start them young, getting used to being able to read the water. Because of the hot weather, its bringing people to the water, perhaps people that are not used to it. Reporter the warning signs are posted but many people decide to take a dip. Authorities say that swimming here is not a good idea. Parents and children with a rare gene mutation are learning about research being done to unlock again genetic mysteries. Reporter thes kids are from all over the world but there is a genetic thing that they share. This girl was recently diagnosed with a rare gene mutation, research suggestion that its involved in autism and cancer but anything else remains a mystery. Until now, the 30 families that have a child diagnosed with it have only spoken on facebook. If you told us a year ago that we would be doing Something Like this, we would have said no way. Reporter recently, the mutation was named jordans syndrome after at family that made it their mission to take a larger look at the mutation. Historically, this type of research would have taken decades to do, but with the rate of science being so quick right now, we are trying to take advantage of that. So now the smoke from our northern fires is kind of going further north. But smoke from the southern fires is kind of coming into our area. So smoke from these areas. Whats going on . Just tons of easterly component winds. Which are pushing the smoke into the bay area. And into Northern California. There should be less tomorrow. Tomorrow is a spare the air day.
