Back to the decision by the Oakland Police department to show members of the media body camera video of two incidents where suspects died. The first was a Police Shooting last week. The second was a case where a man was found wedged in a tiny space between two walls. Ktvus Cristina Rendon was one of the few reporters who saw the video and she is here now. I know you will walk us through what you saw, why did police just show this to reporters . Reporter the public does have a right to know what happened but they dont want to jeopardize the investigation but they plan on releasing videos when the cases are closed. There was restrictions for us today. Our photographers were not allowed to record video once they started playing it for us. Reporter in a room full of Reporters Police allowed us to see body camera video of two incidents. Last week nate wilks was shot and killed by officers. The video was shaky because the officer was chasing after nate wilks. Police told him several times drop the gun. He ran towards the officer with a gun in his hand. He is not pointing at one officer in particular but he pointed in their direction. The officers opened fire. The short answer is, if somebody is pointing at you,. [ indiscernible ] all it takes is a squeeze of the trigger from whatever position and that is deadly. They watched the video on tuesday reporter they watched the video on tuesday. The family of Richard Linyard chose not to watch the video. In that video Richard Linyard was pulled over for a traffic stop. Officers question him. He ran across the street and over a fence. Over the next 20 Minutes Police have no footage. The next video was from a officer searching for him. The officers told him to raise his hands till they realized he is unresponsive. He becomes visible when officers pull him from the space and he appears lifeless. Officers performed cpr. No signs of force and his cause of death is unknown. Again police say they revealed the video to clear up misinformation. We are trying to walk that fine line. As time goes on it will get smoother. We are trying to do the right thing. The chief added officers dont have the luxury of slowing down real time when making use of force decisions. Going back to the video of nate wilks. The man who was shot and killed last week. When he was running and turned around, did he turn around fast, slow, okay, you got me, i am going to give up . Reporter i would say he was running away fast. He stops. It looks like he tripped. He goes to the ground and stands up and runs back at the officer who was wearing the body camera. It was fast. Especially when it was played out in real time. It was shaky. When you slow it down he did turn around in a quick manner. When he was coming towards the officer and pointing his gun, did he have his gun out like this or was it up . Reporter well, when he was turning towards the officer he is running. He has the gun in his hand. That gun is waving in different directions. What they call masking. It was in the direction, general direction of the two officers that were next to him and the officer in front of him. It put the officers in danger and that is why the chief says the officers decide to open fire. Any way to estimate the distance . Reporter we asked that question, they said there is no set distance. If you think about it, when he was running away, he comes back at the officer, that difference is ever changing. I would say maybe 2, 3 feet. Very interesting. We are learning new details about the people involvedane homicide at this office build volved in a homicide at this office building. Surveillance video captured three systems. Two carrying guns. Police say the suspects then killed the man in the White T Shirt seen with his hands raised. Two of the suspects in the video have been killed by police in separate shootings. The case started last thursday morning at the office complex. That is where Christopher Wrenn was shot and killed. Sunday night police shot and killed one of the suspects in the surveillance video. He was shot on center road. And then on monday officers killed a second suspect as he ran from police. Ktvus Azenith Smith joins us live from san jose with what we learned today. Reporter police have yet to reveal a motive but we know this was not a random shooting and according to the documents all the parties involved here have extensive criminal history involving the selling and possession of drugs and robbery. His sister tells us her brother was looking to start a security business. Last thursday, 1 00 a. M. Surveillance cameras captured two men entering the hall way with another man. Christopher wrenn had his hands up. One of the men points a gun. A suspect dressed in black follows. Christopher wrenn was tortured, and shot to death. San jose police obtained a search warrant. Two days later, sunday police shot and killed suspect number one. Matthew castillo. In july Matthew Castillo faced charges for stolen property and prior convictions for transporting and selling a controlled substance. Police killed another suspect. 40yearold in south san jose. He is seen here with a weapon. He was about to kill another woman but he was not armed. He was arrested in 2007 for robbery. And inflicting bodily harm to the victim in that case. Friends of Christopher Wrenn are surprised about the events of the last few days. [ indiscernible ] reporter Christopher Wrenn grew up in virginia and spent time in prison for drug related offenses. Most ribbertly in recently in february. Nobody should have to have their life ended in terror and fear. It is just devastating to watch.
