The cars collided but the big rig is blocking the car so that other cars dont hit it. They are trying to move this accident scene out of the way but it is effecting traffic. Luckily on the noncommute side. The northbound again 680 south of the now castle ridge drive exit. Expect delays there. Bay bridge toll plaza this morning this is starting to build up as well. Metering lights are on. And that means traffic is starting to build as you approach the toll plaza. It is starting to build as you approach emeryville this morning. The search for a missing eightyearold girl in santa cruz has ended in tragedy. Police found what appears to be the body of Madison Middleton in a dumpster near her home. Janine de la vega is in santa cruz where a 15yearold boy has been arrested. Reporter there has been a lot of Police Activity here over night. The coroners van is here right now. They are going to be taking away the body, examining it and determining how the girl died. Now the coroner will be in charge of positively identifying whether it is in fact Mady Middleton but the police chief is very confident that it is her. At 8 00 p. M. Last night a detective made the discovery of the body in a dumpster located in the garage at the housing complex. The chief says he doesnt believe it was searched prior. Now police say immediately sealed off this area at the crime scene. A 15yearold boy was taken away in handcuffs. He has been arrested and is being interviewed by police. Neighbors say he lives on the third floor with his mother and describe him as a nice, well liked boy. Police have not revealed if the teen new mady or what evidence they have that prompted them to arrest him. We have people in the complex who saw the individual. As far as what they actually saw him d i dont know. But we do have people we will be interviewing. Reporter flowers and candles have been left for mady at the complex. This is a very tight knit community. Everyone was hoping for her safe return. The last known image of mady was caught on surveillance cameras inside the complex showing her riding on a white razor scooter at 5 00 sunday night. Search and rescue teams spent the last day and a half looking for her while vol tuners handed out flowers. And right now it will be a very bitter pill to swallow. We know the fbi and the department of justice are helping in this investigation and we are supposed to get an update. Hoping to learn more about the suspect and this investigation and bring that to you later this morning. Pam. Sounds like there is a lot of information that needs to come out. This morning nine major wild fires are burning all over the state. So far this year crews have responded to 5200 fires on state or federal land. That is 500 more compared to this time last year. But the total size of the burn areas is actually 6 smaller. Now the lull fire is burning near grass valley. It is still threatening about 2,000 homes this morning. There are mandatory evacuation orders in place for several communities. This fire has already burned 1700 acres. Its only 25 contained. Firefighters hope to fully contain it by saturday. Four firefighters have been hurt but three of them have been released from the hospital. The cause of that fire is still under investigation. Fire investigators arrested one person for arson after a fast moving fire in sacramento county. The flames threatened several homes in the town of elver that. The fire is fully contained now but the crews are staying out there on the fire lines and watching for my flairups. The fire burned 430 acres, one home, six cars, and a tractor. People who live nearby say they were surprised about how fast those flames couple toward them. We saw the fire coming toward our direction and we thought the fire trucks were going to contain it because it was like this wall of fire coming at us. And it was so quick because we thought okay we have time. Weve got the fire, we have water. It just went nuts. The fire crews kept the flames away from horses and cattles. Some of the ranchers moved their animals to an evacuation center. Investigators are not releasing the name of the suspected arsonist but he may be charged with several counts of deliberately starting fires. The fire danger is also high closer to home now. Those high temperatures coupled with light winds combine to trap a lot of that car exhaust and that creates very unhealthy air and of course officials are asking people if you can leave the car at home. Try to walk if you can. Car pool, take public transportation, bart, ac transit, and of course with the heat taking hold for the next couple of days around the bay area especially in those inland valleys, people will be looking for any way to stay cool. We talked to one woman that lives in concord she is surprised when i said it would hit triple digits at her house. Oh my goodness. It looks like i will have to hit the pool today. Take the day off . Just yesterday this was the scene in bay point. Firefighters battled a brush fire there that was going through brush in the hills. Fanned by strong winds. Contra costa county firefighters were arable to contain that fire to 37 acres. And apparently it was started bay couple power lines that came together and then sparks rained down on to the dry grass below. With these dry conditions we have right now, that is all it will take. Firefighters not happy obviously about the hot, dry conditions we have here in the bay area and that we will have for the next couple of days before this heat wave lets up. Dave. Residential parking permits are for neighborhoods like rock ridge where there are homes, businesses, and transit in the same area. And people with permits can park for as long as they need to. Other drivers are limited to just 24 hours. For the last six years, permits cost 35 a year. Now they are going up to 82 for the first year and renewals will be 59. What is happened in six years that the parking permit fee would go up exponentially and so much. I would like to have that kind of raise. Its been artificially low 35 for a long time and weve been losing money on that. The city says it costs 82 just to process the permits including an accountant and Public Service representative along with producing the permits and maintaining the signs. Parking permits in San Francisco cost more than 100 a year. A new Housing Development project is coming to livermore. Last night the Livermore City Council voted unanimously to approve the development of 49 Single Family homes. The new neighborhood will be known as the vines and construction could begin by the spring of 2016. Still ahead police say a man that was killed by an escort he was reportedly attacking may have been a serial killing. Republican leaders say they will not take action on a senate highway funding bill before they go on summer recess friday. The senates version of the highway bill which is on track to pass later in the week also includes funding for the federal export, import bank. Instead they are pushing for a temporary five month extension of the highway funding bill without that export import bank. Now if congress doesnt act by friday, states are going to lose money for highway and transit projects right in the middle of the summer construction season. A man says he was banned from carnival basketball games at the Orange County fair after raking in the prizes. But the man was former nba player dell bert arenas. Yeah he won a few. About 20 minutes to get you pass the span. And highway 24 oh what happened there . Back on it again. Moving okay through there. The search for a missing eightyearold girl in santa cruz has ended now in tragedy. Police have found what appears to be the body of Mady Middleton in a dumpster. In the last 30 minutes we found a coroners van pulling out of the arts complex carrying the body found in the dumpster. This is where eightyearold Mady Middleton lived. Police still have this area sealed off. In the distance there is a California Department of justice van. They have their investigators here because everyone is gathering evidence. Police have worked over night processing the crime scene that is focused around the dumpster in a garage. The coroner will be making a positive identification on the body. A detective found the body around 8 00 last night. According to the chief he doesnt believe it was searched before. Police have arrested a 15year old boy and interviewing him. Police have not revealed if the teen knew mady or what prompted his arrest. Investigators are working on obtaining search warrants in the apartment he lives in. For what i know he is very well spoken and has a very kind manner. It is a shocking situation all together. The filipino woman that was screaming was his mother. Anyone seeing their son being taken away that will evoke some emotions. The man accused of killing kate steinle on San Franciscos pier 14 is due in court today. Juan Francisco Lopez sanchez pled guilty to killing steinle. Steinles killing sparked a National Debate about illegal immigration because Lopez Sanchez is an undocumented immigrant who had been deported five times before he was arrested for murder. A Police Officer shot a dog after it charged at officers near the asian art museum. It happened late last night when two officers were on patrol near fulton and hide streets. They noticed a man who had apparently drug pareira few nail yeah. When they got out to talk to the man, his dog which was loose charged at them. One officer fired two or three rounds. A man accused of killing two in a shooting rampage in a Movie Theater passed a federal background check when he purchased his gun. The pawnshop says no red flags were raised at the time. Police say houser killed two people, wounded nine others in that crowded Movie Theater before quilling himself. His family says he hood a history of mental problems. Back here in the bay area San Jose Police plan to put extra officers in high crime areas following an especially violent weekend in the city. Two men were killed, four others were shot and wounded. In another case a man was arrested after police say he attacked three women with a knife in an apparent Sexual Assault attempts. Santa rosa has reported seven homicides in the past four years. 16 for the year. They have not decided how long the heavier development will last. People in parts of los altos you are being advised boil your Drinking Water because e. Coli was found in tap water. It started on friday when a water main ruptured. Now after the pipe was repaired, the water tested positive for that bacteria. The first time its ever happened and ive lived here for 46 years. We have never had any bacterial problems. Now more than 850 customers have been effected by this contaminated water. The scsf Medical Center says it supports a plan by the Golden State Warriors to build a new stadium just across the street in the mission bay neighborhood. Yesterday was the final day of Public Comment on the proposal and Officials Say they want the city to help make sure traffic doesnt keep patients from getting to the er. The city has the ability to say to the giants or warriors, lets schedule it so youre not having madonna here at the same time the giants are playing the dodgers. The city says its been working with the warriors and ucsf to work out traffic routes and improve Public Transit in the area. Still ahead a story about an injured owl rescued in the south bay. Just yesterday strong winds pushed this brush fire across some hillsides. Firefighters were able to contain that fire to 37 acres before it could damage any homes. There was also fire in santa rosa that did damage a home. It broke out in a lot full of dry brush and a home was gutted by the flames. It was recorded during a Training Exercise at the Sacramento Regional fire academy. This dramatic footage shows fire behavior and also how they attack the flames in an interior fire. The academy released the video on their facebook page. After six months proclaiming boston would be the city to bring the summer olympics back to the United States the u. S. Olympic Committee Says boston has dropped its bid. Yesterday bostons mayor announced he would not be pressured into signing the host city contract. As you can see things are moving pretty slow at least for now on highway 4. Moving on to the south bay now 280, 880 split moving okay through the south bay. There is an earlier accident near the lawrence expressway. Over all south bay traffic. This is our third accident this morning near the altamont pass. This newest one near the grant light road off ramp. There cars involved in that one. Crews are still working on the other two accidents. One of them a motorcycle accident from earlier this morning. Definitely heavy along 580. Still remains very heavy southbound on 680. 6 49 here is my friend steve. We do have clear skies. A little hint of fog. Warming up for a few. A little haze. Some smoke from the rag fire. We have a north breeze yesterday. Some of that smoke started to filter in. Get a little north, northeast that can bring in that smoke. 53 bodega bay. Monterey has dipped below 50. Some of the coldest ocean temps are right here from the bay area to Northern California and then they get warm. So some of the coolest waters on the california coast and some of the coolest readings are here even though we have High Pressure and warm temps.
