Steven deschler has been a coach at Novato High School for 20 years. He was picked up after he returned from a vacation with his wife last night. Officials said it appeared she was taken by surprise, his wife, the investigation began after the 17yearolds mother looked at her daughter cell phone. The mother of the victim approached approached the Police Department in regards to concerning texts she had discovered between her daughter and steven deschler. Steven deschler was released on 100,000 bail this morning. He has been ordered to stay away from the teenager. A School District is halting plans to resurface an Athletic Field after parents raised concerns about crumb rubber. Some believe crumb rubber fields pose a cancer risk. Ktvus Ken Pritchett has more. When it came time to replace the artificial turf crumb rubber was the material of choice and that caught the eye of a parent. I was watching the field get replaced and as i was watching i remembered there are all these articles about kids who play on crumb rubber fields getting cancer. Reporter he took his concerns to the School District along with other parents. We shouldnt be approving the replacement of something just because it was fine 10 years ago. Reporter material flies. There have been government tests. Only of air samples, 4 feet above the turf. Not at ground level. Kids play hard. Running, jumping. The goalies are in particular are scraping on it.
