A date is set for the recall election of Alameda CountyDistrict Attorney pamela price. Voters will decide in the november general election. That question we have kron fours will tran live in Alameda County. Thats a date thats apparently good for one side, not for the other. Now the other side, the people who want her out of her job, they actually wanted to decide this as early as august. Lets get right to the video last night. Many people on both sides of the issue, those for and against pamela price. They showed up at county board of supervisors meeting in Alameda County and they voice their opinions. Now, supporters say november 5th is fair because thats when she won her position in 2022. During the general election, they also believe more people will turn out during that time. So a bigger sample size is good for District Attorney pamela price. Now people who want her recalled, they want a special election, a standalone election because they want this issue settled sooner than later. But ultimately the board of supervisors unanimously voted november 5th because it was a lot cheaper. Then a special election both sides of the issue with reaction. Da price won her election fairly. It should be allowed to serve her entire term. This recall is ridiculous. So many businesses that are closing down because they are the da is not prosecuting. These criminals says the selective recall election. Has violated the county charter. It is actually illegal and undemocratic. All we want is justice. Accountability for the citizens. Alameda county. People want her recalled and were talking 75,000 and more signatures verified even get it to this particular point. They believe pamela price is soft on crime and soft on suspects. And thats why they want her out of the job. But supporters, they obviously dont. And they are looking forward to november 5th when in Alameda County, there are 960,000 registered voters. And just a final break down a general election for this will cost about 4 Million Dollars, a special election as much as 20 Million Dollars. And that is why they chose the cheaper option of 4 Million Dollars. Back to you. Thank you very much. Well 704, and new this morning, teachers in the south bay are rallying this morning. With israel as to other universities now set deadlines for students to clear up the tents that theyve set up. Yeah, and those deadlines for yesterday. Lets take a look at the encampment at cow. As it stood yesterday, students have been there for 3 weeks at sproul hall and the chancellor. Sent a letter out yesterday saying that the School Leaders and the demonstrators has halved reached an agreement. And that the university for its part would be creating a committee to look over the investments they have in israel. Meantime, student protesters at San Francisco state also reach an agreement with the administration after more than 2 weeks of demonstrating, the Group Announced that the schools president and other leaders have committed to divest from weapons manufacturers. And create workforce to develop new screenings for investments. The student protesters scheduled a press conference for this afternoon to discuss the matter further and in the south san jose state, there was a deadline of yesterday at 06 00pm that the school gave for the protesters to clear out their encampment. But as kron 4 jack moment reports, they have no plans to leave any time soon. What started as daytime the states campus is now a 24 7 encampment. Because i understand that our campus is very silent and complicit with not only genocide, but also as 9 isnt. Around 70 protesters asking the university to abide by their demands. Professor of justice studies saying kill is the adviser for some of the students here. The students in solidarity each other decided to launch a Popular University for gaza. On the other hand, says they for the opposite from smith and the other and libyan bear. John carlos, i do think that makes the administration a little bit nervous about this encampment, even existing so close to graduation. Meantime, back on campus, the deadline to move out has passed. No police and no forcing out saying kill says she iants to keep advocating for her students. So thats why i risk my own skin in order to protect their right to free speech and Academic Freedom to speak out against this genocide. Now officials with san jose state tell me that many of the students and of violating the student code of conduct what that punishment may look like remains to be seen with the administration telling me were just so close to graduation. Reporting in san jose, jackie moment kron 4 thank you, jack. Well, from san jose to San Francisco now where students at ucsf are also given a deadline of 03 00pm yesterday by School Leaders. Either encampment has been really unifying for all of us. Well, the university has been in talks with those protesters. They say theyve been working to keep an open dialogue. In a statement, the University Says there are no plans right now to clear those encampments or involve law enforcement. As long as the demonstrators to remain peaceful and nonviolent. Health workers and Community Groups are demanding San Francisco do more to prevent Overdose Deaths. Members of the Group Carried signs that said things like care, not cages in dealing with addicts. They argue against what they call car several measures and other words, jail or prison time in 2023. We saw a crackdown on drug users. The sheriffs were activated to arrest. People use drugs in the heart of our city. 60 of those arrests involved. People of see the ways that disrupts peoples lives and actually contributes to Overdose Deaths. District attorney Brooke Jenkins sees the problem in a very different light. I think the fact that we have enabled drug use that we have condoned it and weve allowed it is what has caused this problem to everyone that i talked to who is in recovery right now, it has been successful, said that it was the criminal Justice System that really propelled to decide that treatment was what they needed for themselves. They had to be forced in a way to make that choice for what was best for them. And so thats all that were trying to do is to make sure that we protect the most vulnerable from drug dealers, but also use this system to try to to to influence people to choose a better life for themselves. Coalition members argue that crackdown measures only lead to more overdoses. They say San Francisco needs to spend more money on prevention, treatment and Community Care facilities and say treatment should be available on demand. No waiting. We put so many barriers in peoples way from meeting to have id from meeting to show up at a certain place at a certain time of day. Wait, lance. But among those agreeing that tougher measures are critical supervisor matt dorsey, who has overcome his own drug problems, he says with progress being made to reduce street level drug scenes advocating to turn San Francisco streets into arrest free for all of public drug use is a lunatic fringe and are key, not sound Public Health strategy.
