Its a dangerous time to be in the water and First Responders have been busy. The waters of the San Joaquin River in stanislaw county clarmed the life of a 30 yearold woman after she jumped in the water to save her 11 yearold daughter. Weve had, you know, multiple. Fatality incidents just in the last week contra costa county, a 5 yearold boy drowned over the weekend on Bethel Island. Larry collins with cal oes fire and rescue says each fatalities serves as a sad reminder of the importance of water safety. Exactly what weve been warning against. Have a flotation on your body when youre in or near that cold water. Staying out of the current really aware of where you are in relation to fastmoving current may is recognized nationally as water safety month and the organization courtneys cause works to prevent drownings, especially among kids. The Alameda CountyDistrict Attorney announced this afternoon. Joseph roberts has been found guilty of seconddegree murder for the killing of Rachel Buckner buckners from pleasanton. Her body was found dismembered along the shoreline of Bay Farm Island last summer. Police say buck there and roberts live together at the time of the murder. No word yet on when roberts will be sentenced. Oaklands new police chief has officially begun his tenure in the town. Floyd mitchell started the day by meeting new recruits and other members of the departments mitchell last worked as chief in lubbock, texas. He says one of his main goals as the top cop in oakland is Building Public trust. In a brief statement, he said hes looking forward to working with the community. State director for obama she agreed to be the Campaign Manager for one term councilmember who was challenging the incumbent. A setback today for the Nevada Teachers Union, which has been trying to put a stop to the public funding of a new as ballpark in las vegas as kron fours dan kerman reports now the Nevada Supreme Court has ruled the proposed ballot measure to put the question up for a public vote was written improperly, which will now push a public vote to 2026. When the battle lawmakers approved spending 380 Million Dollars in public money to help fund a stadium in las vegas last june. The Nevada Teachers Union took steps to reverse that decision by putting the issue toaa public vote. This november. Now that wont happen. The Nevada Supreme Court upheld a Lower Court Ruling that the proposed ballot measure was not written correctly and petition signatures cannot be gathered until its read and to comply with state law fighting billionaires is never easy. This is just minor setback. Alexander marks but the Teachers Union schools over stadium says the ruling means the measure wont appear on this novembers ballot because now there are only 44 days left to rewrite the petition and then collect the 102,000 signatures with no state elections in 2025. That means the next chance for a public vote is november of 2026. But schools over stadiums remains undeterred. This still remains incredibly unpopular locally. It still underwater 20 . You know, preventing the teachers from going out there ensure every student has a highquality Public Education is probably not going help with their polling either. But, you know, we we remain committed to try and help fix the misguided priorities of the state. So not much has really changed. In a statement, the attorney who represents the Coalition Opposing the ballot measure, which includes the as, was pleased with the ruling saying all nevadans have a right to participate in direct democracy, but they need to observe the laws that require properly informing the voters of a proposal. This measure failed to do that. All they did was delay if they were hoping for a quick decision and calling it a day and saying that they want thats not what they got today as part of a 2 pronged attack, schools over stadiums has sued the state of nevada saying the passage of that funding measure violates nevada state constitution. Portola Music Festival is returning to pier 80 in San Francisco for its 3rd year in a row. The festival has not only made a name for itself with its musical lineup, but also for its noise, complaints or how with by brady we thought it might have firework. The man convicted of attacking paul pelosi will learn his fate in federal court later this week. David de pap was convicted last year for the attempted kidnapping and assault of a federal official in october of 2022. During the trial, the pap admitted he broke into the pelosi home with full intent of Holding Nancy Pelosi hostage. The pap is set to be sentenced on friday. Video from the citizen app showing a large cloud of black heavy smoke hovering over the San Francisco bay yesterday afternoon, crews were able to get that fire under control, though, just a short time after those flames erupted. Well, of course, lots of clouds and fog and theyll start to burn off as the as the days go on. And what you see today is pretty much what youre going to see for the next couple of days. So were into it that condition. This is the view from the berkeley hills. You see a lot of gray lot of gray, especially at the coast, pretty much wherever you are. If your coast side is great. But when youre inland, it did burn off a little bit earlier today. Winds right now are just going right through the golden gate. You see at 18 Miles Per Hour through San Francisco and not quite as windy in santa rosa, 10 Miles Per Hour, but 18 Miles Per Hour in fairfield, there is the fog. You can see it pushing right through. This is the future cast. This could be today. It could be tomorrow. Could be the next day. Well see a little bit of variation. But basically the story is clouds and fog will start to burn off in the afternoons. So you can see the future wind gusts. Look a lot like today. Its beautiful conditions, but you have to like the wind and looking ahead toward the the high temperatures for tomorrow looking for 50s and 60s right along the coast side and in San Francisco start to head south and inland gets a little bit warmer bay shoreline, mainly 60s. Well, maybe 80 in the very far reaches of the east bay and in the north bay. But right at the coast to point rays, maybe 60 degrees. So there you go. Great conditions. San Francisco City leaders celebrated the opening of the new Panorama Park over the weekend. The public park located on the islands highest point and it offers some pretty incredible views you can see in this the bay and San Francisco skyline all visible. From this park. I dont know if i could ever really of magic it. When you see the pictures, what you here, people talk about it. Its one thing but to be in it, its quite something else. It is magical. The park features a 6 to 9 foot tall sculpture called the point of infinity by japanese artist hiroshi sugimoto. The new open space is part of a bigger project to bring thousands of new homes and parks too treasure. And your islands. San jose mayor matt mahan led a groundbreaking ceremony for a new effort to expand and improve their vietnamese Heritage Garden in kelly park. The garden was originally built in 2011 to honor the thousands of refugees who fled vietnam after the fall of saigon in 1975, the new plans. Call for building a new garden with trees trails and benches. There will also be a space to Host Community events. The first phase of the project will include adding a statue featuring an american soldier and a vietnamese soldier standing side by side.
