Sean, over in the east bay, a family is mourning the loss of a 5 yearold boy that drowned over the weekend. It happened in the back of the home on Bethel Island. Neighbors say the boy was visiting family when the tragedy occurred. A kron fours check moment. Hes got details. Contra costa county First Responders rushed to Bethel Island. Reports of a 5 yearold drowned in Bethel Island. We had a young male drowned. Landing over there. John sullivan, a neighbor says each of these homes has a dock news hitting close to his home. He says this tragedy was praying for you know, it didnt work out youre the rescuers did the best they could. Neighbors tell us the boy was visiting relatives in the complex and fell off the dock in the back of the home. So neighbors say a drowning is really uncommon. Some of them have been living here for years and say theyve never seen anything like it. But they also said at the same time, water safety is at the top of mind spreading life vests and words of advice for people who have boats just like this one. Im very sad about it. Hearing about it that that breaks my heart. Darlene weaver has lived here for 3 years and says shes never heard of a drowning in this community until now. Im not blaming the pairing, you shows. As of now, no details have been given on how she got into the water. Officials say the case is still under investigation. The body of a mother who went missing days ago has now been recovered in the San Joaquin River. Now its tennis. Last county officials with the deputys office say they responded to calls on thursday about several people drowned ing and the San Joaquin River near fishermans bend Officials Say 30 yearold brenda durand jumped into the water to save her 11 yearold daughter. The daughter was able to get out safely, but unfortunately, iran did die and not resurface. On saturday. Volunteers reached our search, the area for duran and recovered her body just outside of the town of newman and wake of this tragedy. Sheriffs office is reminding people to always wear a life jacket when getting into the river. Well, happening today, oaklands new top cop will be addressing the city at its annual event. This is 11 feet right the he passed away on april 22nd in his home. His daughter kimberly shared what he was like in his final hours. I want everyone to know she was radiant and full of and like that day for more than 60 years, the reverend fought for civil rights and champion of the Lgbtq Community. Quickly after he made the brave decision to make the church inclusive to all. When he stood up for folks in the Lgbtq Community to get rid of the stigma. And this city that did not embrace this Community Williams and his late wife, janice america, tony, expanded glide to become what it is today. It happened at the Broadway Hotel on polk street early sunday morning. The fire forced residents to evacuate the building. And crews say several streets were shut down at the time theyve been reopened. Firefighters were able to quickly put out the flames. However, one person suffered minor injuries. No word yet on the cause of the actual fire. Over in the east bay, a lithium battery. It causes a fire at the port of oakland. Video from the citizen app shows a large cloud of smoke hovering over the San Francisco bay yesterday afternoon crews were able to get the fire under control. Police say the van was stolen from the novato area and spotted in the early Morning Hours. The suspected thief was later arrested and found with a revolver in their possession. That driver has been booked in us now in marin county jail. 2 people who claim they were interested in buying a used pickup trucks are now facing several gun and drug charges. It happened in livermore. Police say they got a call from a woman who had posted her truck for sale. What was concerned about a prospective buyer. Police say they arrived on the scene of the sellers house and spoke with 2 people that were interested in the truck. Officers later searched their vehicle, leading them to find meth, heroin and a gun. Both men were from the oakland area according to police. They were both taken into custody. And look at this more than 2000 pot plants and 100 pounds of processed marijuana were seized at the Santa Clara County property early last week. A special unit with the Santa Clara CountySheriffs Office says theyve been focused on this specific operation for months. In total. They arrested 4 people. Some of those roads, the highway reopened more than 10 hours ahead of schedule as officials predicted it would actually open until later on this afternoon.
