In walnut creek, Philippe Djegal kron. 4 news. Just a tremendous loss for the journalism communities today, ktla, Entertainment News anchor sam rubin has passed away. Yeah, he was a staple at our sister station ktla. Sam joined the ktla morning news in 1991 and he was vital to making it the success that it is today. Sam is a multi award winner and legend in the Entertainment Community hosting countless red carpets, beloved by coworkers and celebrities alike. Many of those celebrities offering their condolence as and shock. Today, sam was just 64 years old. He died suddenly this morning in los angeles, his work spanned the world. He was also a contributor for uk and australia. News programs but he loved his role as husband and dad the most. Our hearts are definitely with his wife, leslie and his 4 children today as well as his ktla family. I actually got my start in news back in 2010 and turning for sam in the ktla Entertainment News department. He was just incredible influence and presence in my life and my career kept us on our he was known for forcing a lot of us behind the scenes to do silly skits and appearances on air. Before he was a matchmaker, this is video of him trying to play matchmaker for me and actor taj marie. Im live on the air one year. It did not things never did usually for him. But we supported him in his delusions. And ive continue to work in the industry. Of course, hes always been so so supportive of me. Hes giving shoutouts on air for different reports. Ive done and different milestones that ive made when i got to kron 4, he was just really excited, especially for us to be sister stations and nobody conducted interviews quite like him and i really did try my best to learn by osmosis his comedic timing. He was an incredible writer and incredible storyteller and i will forever be grateful for his kindness and his willingness to teach younger folks in the industry. I always tell young kids trying to get in the you need to do an internship. You need to understand how it works. How newsroom works. And he was definitely vital to helping me learn that. And kind of help sparked this fire and meta be on tv. So thank you, sam, for everything. And im like i said, our hearts are definitely with his family. Well, today, im sorry for your loss. You you can hear your voice, what he meant to you, what he means to you. It seems that, you know, every red carpet he was there. He was gonna miss with la that entertainment scene. But it sounds like were saying he was like super into his family and just a silly nice guys. Super silly. Really just fun. He was taught me, you its ok if mistakes are made. You can laugh about it and roll on, you know, call it out. Sometimes it makes it, you know, it makes tv more fun that way. And you know, i like i say, i just i tip my hat to to him. And everyone who has worked with him knows it that same person that he is on air is who he was and his reallife very, very kind and a generous to anyone who wanted to learn about the industry. So, yeah, its a a big, big loss for sure. May his memory be a blessing in obviously touched a lot of lives. And yeah, that will leave a legacy. No doubt. Yeah. Funny one we let im im trying to like, you know, laughing joke a little bit with. Different things about him but that he would have wanted. Yeah, no, definitely. He was incredible. We have to take a quick break. More news coming up right after this. All right. First, the good news. Northern lights are expected to appear this weekend and maybe even be seen as far south as Northern California. But where Northern California, more on that in a minute now. The bad news, theyre part of a rare and powerful geomagnetic solar storm that could disrupt mobile phone networks, gps satellites, Internet Service power grids. Yikes. Thats like everything. This follows a series of solar flares on the sun. That blast at least 5 massive streams of plasma toward the earth. Space weather forecasters have issued a severe g 4 geomagnetic storm. Watch for tonight. That could last a weekend. What earlier today we caught a glimpse of the sun spots that could cause the geomagnetic storm. This is wild lawrence, what do you know about all this . Yeah, you know, thats called a coronal mass ejections. So what happens . You see the sun spots and the sun rotates. So if the sun rotates and its aimed right at the earth and they have one of those solar flares that ejects all that plasma. Those cosmic rays headed our way in before. You know what . Weve got the possibility of really a space storm out there tonight. So could be really fascinating if you get a chance if you got clear skies, go out and take a look right around midnight or thereafter. Heres the latest forecast for where we might see likely going to see it across much of the Northern Tier of the United States across north dakota, minneapolis, all the way possibly in a new york. But theres a chance. You know, these things forecast on the solar storms really difficult others possible that we could see maybe a chance of some of that activity and even Northern California toward reading. Theres about a 4 chance that you might see it there. But with the last event that we had here locally, we actually saw some of that on the rise. And so go check that out tonight. Boy, its a nice sight to see if you get a chance to do it. You were looking good out there at the airport right now, except for sfo has got some issues there. Theyve had the delays there just because the work going on some construction. Theyre out there on one of the runways. Otherwise a beautiful evening around the bay area. Nice and clear out there right now. Temperatures today. Yeah, we cool a little bit along the coastline. A sign of things to come. A few degrees cooler there. Cooler to oakland and also into hayward, but warmer in spots inland. In fact, check out these temperatures. Yeah, were up in the 70s and the 80s. Even some hot 90s today in concord and santa rosa, quite the day around the bay area. Now, tomorrow, what were going to see the cooling beginning along the coastline. Were going to see more fog to start out your day. Temperatures tomorrow. Yes, so the 70s were in the 60s and much of San Francisco along the coastline. Dont go expecting it to be really, really warm up toward the beaches, 50s and 60s. Youre going to see that fog out, hugging the coastline inside the bay. Its going to be nice about 69 degrees in san bruno. 76 in millbrae further down. Youre going to see those temperatures warming up in the 80s in some spots. Then we go maybe couple low 90s in the south bay again tomorrow afternoon. Little hot side there. 88 in pleasanton, 79 in hayward, a breezy in the afternoon. 89 in concord about 86 degrees in hercules 80 and napa back along the coastline. Temperatures generally in the 50s and the 60s next couple days. Those temperatures coming down just a little bit as we head in toward mothers day. Otherwise, it looks like it is going to be sunny and bright, especially inland. That moving along the coastline that can keep those temperatures little bit cooler toward the beaches. Im sorry. What is with all that again . Yeah. Coronal mass ejection cme. So yeah, it is basically when the sun kind of a rough. So you get a solar flare to the jax. All that hot plasma. And its really interesting because the sun rotates and the son just comes around rotates and is aimed at the earth at the same time, they have one of those coronal mass ejections were just like right in the target area. So hard to forecast, but boy can mess with all of our satellites. All of our should kind of sounds like what everyone was worried was going to happen when that. Sounds like they can do that. We could have some outages overnight tonight. So if you have something on, might be it. But that map should candidate is like likely yeah, have yeah. Definitely have definitely looks like the you see put building posted online right . You see all the beautiful roars out there and its its something to see. Ive never seen personally. But ive talked to people that have they said you can actually hear it too. Yeah, really, really interesting cool. Thanks thanks, buddy. Well, the fortyniners begin their rookie mini camp today, which is the first opportunity for them to put their draft picks and undrafted free agents through the paces see what you got in the draft. Darren wilson has been in santa clara all day. She is with us now live. Aaron. How did these young bucks look . Im going for one you guys ahead of time. They there may be some geometric plasma missing with them. I get there. Some popping found. Were going to try to get through this. I think were already experiencing these outages that lawrence was talking about. However, today, as was the first day of rookie mini camp for the rookies and look, this is all about first impressions. You know, you want to have a nice first day. Tonights first impression, a nice first day of school with thats what the rookies were up against today in some Great Impressions were made some not so Great Impressions were made, but that doesnt necessarily hold much weight today. But explain now. Obviously the niners use their first draft pick at 31 for Ricky Parcell out of florida. Now that being said, everybody is excited. But with the wide receiver can do for the team. But i am here to tell you today that although he looked comfortable initially when he was kind of do some drills on his own kind of what the coaches some catching. He looked comfortable out there on the field. But when they started the 7 on 7 drills, it did kind of seemed like he wasnt as comfortable as maybe he seemed earlier in practice today because he wasnt really able to really many kitchens. They target in the few times. They definitely were trying to feed them the ball, but he had some trouble bringing those catches it cant be that all of them were overthrown underthrown. Some of them were. But a few of them are couple of them. At least hands in. They just fell straight through. So thats not great for personal have parts are, however, its early. So its a very early impression. He still has time to make up. Get is, you know, nerves down and get comfortable with his new team in his new teammates. Now, someone who didnt need the time to get comfortable was actually renardo green. Now we spoke to an green yesterday and when he when he came to us to speak, he actually think kind of nervous like he was trying to find his footing back out there on the field. Today, his footing came very easily to him. He is a cornerback. Everyone is excited about him. He was their second pick at 64 in this draft. And that being said today, he showed every bit of why he was drafted is their second peak here with the niners as the quarterback. He was definitely on his game today, defensively, even a poor saw sometimes he was not giving up much of anything. He showed that he was ambitious, that he was determined that he had been studying the playbook, that he pretty comfortable being at the next level coming out of Florida State actually being coached by coach norville definitely has prepped him and get him ready and what . Im sure that nick sorensen, the new dc was actually headed into his 3rd season with the niners. But his first season at the defensive play caller is excited about what he saw but not all green. Well take a listen to what he had to say ahead of practice today during mini camp. I think i think you learn every year. I think for me its more just. Getting prepared for the season getting our players prepared and our staff and everybody prepared that were playing and presenting it to our players in this, you know, with one voice were doing it all. It was the same direction and again, like i said, its p violence and finishes what i want to look like. But its just technique. Its more mindset than anything you have to think about it. And yet the train that thought and then it becomes habit, whether its attacking it or protecting it. And the main thing is that everybodys involved. If youre blocking your ball security, you know, for the guy who has the ball, if youre at on defense and youre attacking it, whether youre the first man in second man in high point, tipton overthrows. Got to get those know that. Okay. All right. So quickly, lawrence, im about to give you a call because we have to figure out whats going on with the geometric waves and how we can figure out this sample for my next at 6. And ill give you more about what rookie mini camp. You know, what happened here taking place at levi stadium. Ill toss it back to you guys in toss it back to you guys in the studio.
